Through his mother Elizabeth Stuart he was the nephew of [[UsefulNotes/TheHouseOfStuart Charles I]], king of England, Scotland, and Ireland whom he would become known for assisting in the [[UsefulNotes/EnglishCivilWar]]. As the first colonial governor of Canada's [[MegaCorp biggest corporation]], the Hudson's Bay Company, he also played an important role in [[UsefulNotes/CanadianHistory]].
