* . New best thing in the world. I didn't follow my temptation to add the trope CuteMachines to the article, because I'm not sure if my opinion is shared enough for that. But dang, Robo is loveable.

But dang, Robo is loveable.the epitome of CuteMachines, without being reduced to a mascot or anything.

* . I spent my childhood reading instead of watching things, so finding this a couple years ago was basically my introduction to visual pleasure, and I've gotten way into animation since then. All the characters are so likeable and so different from each other!

I spent my childhood reading instead of watching things, so finding this a couple few years ago was basically my introduction to visual pleasure, and I've gotten way gateway into becoming an animation since then. All the characters are so likeable and so different from each other!junkie.

* . I know there's other, less appealing, interpretations, but I like to think of this book as a battle between objectification (Dracula wants to use everyone as food and turn them into half-people who lack any traits he finds inconvenient) and human dignity (the TrueCompanions who defeat him include a husband and wife who stand by each other through the most traumatic circumstances, three guys who remained respectful friends with a girl after she rejected him, a lot of ride-or-die platonic friendship, etc., etc.).

* Music: My dad raised me on indie-folk type stuff (Aimee Mann, Natalie Merchant, the Wailin' Jennys, Over the Rhine, Deb Talan), and I've discovered more artists in that genre on my own (Rhiannon Giddens, Alexi Murdoch, Mariee Sioux, the Paper Kites, Edgelarks), but my #1 favorite is the similar-but-harder roots-rock stuff (Larkin Poe, Vigilantes of Love, Lucius, Hozier, sometimes Delta Rae). What with my sheltered background, I haven't diversified much yet, but the Spider-Verse soundtrack is throwing me bodily into the hip-hop fandom without any clue where to start.

* AmbiguousDisorder: For a long time I thought I might be autistic (it runs in the family and I have several traits in common with autistic family members), but after some research that idea doesn't fit as well as I thought it did, and I won't be pursuing a diagnosis. So I'm not sure what all's causing my weirdnesses (aversion to eye contact, face/voice veering between expressionless and cartoonily overexpressive, difficulty "piloting" my body, inability to read social subtext - the list goes on).

* HomeschooledKids: With mixed results. I wound up kind of fitting the "ignorant awkward homeschool kid" stereotype, and now that I've "graduated" the holes in my knowledge have become more apparent, but most other homeschoolers I've met were way cooler and less stereotypical than me.

Wound up anxious, undereducated, and behind my peers on many, many practical life skills. But after a few years of pushing, my parents (who always had love and good intentions) owned up to the flaws in their approach, and with their help I've learned enough to get my high-school equivalency degree at age 21.
