Asked in the is this a trope? thread and none of the Follow the Leader examples were valid

* FollowTheLeader: Surprisingly enough, averted. Matt Lang had been nursing the idea of a musical casting Aladdin as the villain since he was a child, and had no idea the stage adaptation of ''Theatre/{{Aladdin}}'' existed when he began working on the show in 2011, or that said show would make it to Broadway the year after ''Twisted'' debuted. Initially, the apparent pointlessness of nitpicking and parodying a children's movie twenty years after the fact was part of the humor.
** Ironically, ''Disney'' is the one following ''Starkid's'' lead; after this show, Disney went on a kick of doing AlasPoorVillain PerspectiveFlip stories about their own classic villains, with ''Film/{{Maleficent}}'' in 2014 and ''Film/{{Descendants}}'' in 2015. True, the real leader they were following was ''Theatre/{{Wicked}}'', but given that show had existed since 2003 and Disney didn't start doing villain POV reimaginings until ten years later when Twisted became a viral hit, it's impossible not to believe there's some connection.
*** Now more believable, since author Serena Valentino [[https://thedisneyblog.com/2018/12/01/revamping-disneys-villains-an-interview-with-serena-valentino/ have written the novels of Disney stories with villains' perspectives.]]
*** Do not ignore the fact that Ursula's story ''Poor Unfortunate Soul'' deals with the backstory of the following:
--> Serena Valentino: ''Poor Unfortunate Soul'' was inspired in part by a couple of HP Lovecraft stories. I was also inspired to tell a story about the dangers of suppressing your true self and not living your life authentically. '''Ursula’s brother Triton forced Ursula to live in a body that wasn’t hers.''' To pretend to be something she wasn’t and it damaged her soul. Her anger consumed her. I see '''Triton as the real villain in this story.'''
*** Compare with:
--> Ursula: I used to be the ruler of the ocean, I was benevolent and always kept my words, But my brother kept the antiquated notion, that women should be seen and never heard.
--> So he dethroned me, disowned me, and on top of that, '''rezoned me, to the outskirts of a kingdom in a cave!'''
--> Took my scepter and my crown, though I tried to take him down, the truth and I now share a watery grave...(sobs)
*** It's not exactly the same, but Triton still ''rezoned'' her to another place.
*** Interestingly, it also puts the Beast from [[WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast The Beauty and The Beast]] as a Villain, like Gaston claims in his part:
--> '''Gaston''': I organized a rescue mission. But how was I to know that she had fallen in love with her captor? To me, that doesn't seem entirely healthy, especially since he's '''a wolf-bear-thing. A buffalo monster. In a cape.'''
