There were rumors that Orion Pictures had previously bought the distribution rights but sold it to Columbia due to the former studio's impending bankruptcy, with no legitimate sources to back this claim. However, Orion and Columbia shared a distribution deal with the film's production company, Nelson Entertainment, so the idea that Orion considered releasing it is not outside the realm of possibility.
