There is a ShoutOut to ''VideoGame/SunlessSea'' early in the story. Creator/FailbetterGames, the developer that made ''Sunless Sea'' and ''VideoGame/FallenLondon,'' also made a browser RPG based on Erin Morgenstern's novel ''Literature/TheNightCircus.'' The RPG is similar to ''Fallen London'' in its design, and can be found here: http://nightcircus.storynexus.com/. Many fans of Erin Morgenstern's are also fans of Failbetter, and immediately thought of ''Sunless Sea'' when ''Starless Sea'' was released, making the reference to it almost something of a MythologyGag.
