However, it's been revealed that Celeste was not alerted about this; in fact, later on February 27th, 2024, the head of VO at Glitch, Jasmine Yang, revealed on Discord that she forgot to inform her and that it was a genuine mistake she took the blame for. By that point however, Robyn Barry Cutter, a close friend and co-worker of Celeste, had already announced her departure as [=SMG2=] due to the incident.

* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Over the years, ''several'' old episodes of the series have been unlisted, privated, or full-on deleted for various reasons...

** On November 4th 2020, the episode "0% of Spaghetti" was privated because of Luke and Kevin reacting to it on the Hobo Bros channel, most likely because it was heavily implied to be a source of OldShame for Luke, the low quality of it, the ValuesDissonance of the older bloopers being at its most prevalent (most prominently the scene where Mario shoots a random guy he thinks is a ninja and justifying it by saying "he was black?", which was quickly cut entirely from their reaction) and [=Starman3=]'s cameos (which were also cut due to his real-life self's various scandals). Jasmine Yang, voice director and talent wrangler at Glitch, took responsibility for the incident, but the fallout resulted in Robyn Barry-Cotter (longtime voice of [=SMG2=] and Theo), who had become close to Celeste due to their work in ''Meta Runner'', quitting in protest.

** Doubling with TalkingToThemself, Creator/LizzieFreeman voiced both Meggy and Shadow-Meggy in "The Pursuit of Happiness" and "My New Adventure". The reason it counts as both is because Shadow-Meggy manifests physically and isn't always just a voice. This also carried over into Meggy's solo series ''WebAnimation/SunsetParadise''.

** In "Final Hours", [[spoiler:Francis's ultimate creation,]] Super Saiyan God Goku, is depicted as Goku in his Super Saiyan Blue transformation. Super Saiyan God is the red-haired transformation.
** [[Franchise/{{Splatoon}} Inklings]] are born as squids and then once they turn fourteen they develop human-like qualities. In "Final Hours", Meggy is transformed into a human by [[spoiler:losing all of her ink to Francis' machine]], as if Inklings are the opposite; humans with squid-like qualities. The series has doubled down on this take with photos of Meggy as a child still in a humanoid form.

** "Scatman's Revenge" has one for Music/ScatmanJohn, who the video is about and who passed away over a decade earlier.

It was an amicable parting, as Lizzie not only gave Elsie her full support (and requested fans do the same), but continues to work for GLITCH as Pomni in ''WebAnimation/TheAmazingDigitalCircus''. Amusingly, this Darrin was flipped when Elsie voiced Pomni during her ''[=SMG4=]'' cameo.

** In the description of ''Tubbie TV'', [=SMG4=] said he was originally going to make the video in the form of a Ssenmodnar, but he decided to use a few new ideas instead of random things to keep it "PHRESH". Given the [[VindicatedByHistory initial]] reaction to the final video, it's safe to say this backfired on him.
** "Hotel Mario" was originally going to be named either "Bellhop Mario" or "Live Like Hobos".
** "Freddy's Spaghettiria" was also originally going to be named "Five Days at Mario's".
** "Seaside Stupidity", the episode introducing Boopkins, was supposed to only be a single episode, but it became a two-parter (a first for the series) because Luke couldn't finish it all in time.
** Il Piantissimo from "Stupid Mario Sunshine" was going to be a recurring character. This never came to pass for one reason or another.
** "If Mario was In... Splatoon":
*** Meggy was intended to be a OneShotCharacter, but her unexpected popularity among the fanbase convinced Luke and Kevin to give her more and more focus until she became a main cast member.
*** The Splatfest was originally scripted as an entire multi-round tournament, but Kevin realized it would be too much work for them back then. This concept would be recycled for ''Meggy's Destiny''.
*** Meggy's team was originally going to win the Splatfest, but Luke convinced Kevin to change it so they lost. They both consider this the first great "mistake" they made with her, crediting it as the reason Meggy became a BreakoutCharacter.
** The Waluigi Arc was, in Luke and Kevin's own words, a complete accident. There were many aspects of it that were revised and changed as Luke and Kevin decided to roll with it and give the characters development. It was to the point that the arc almost didn't come into being at all.
*** "Waluigi's Time" was originally going to have Waluigi leave the Mushroom Kingdom after being rejected and go to a temple to undergo training, meeting Desti along the way, before returning stronger than ever.
*** "Mario and The T-Pose Virus" was originally going to end with Shroomy eating the T-Pose Mushroom without Waluigi's involvement, but they thought there would be no point to the ending and decided to have Waluigi be behind it. It was after seeing the huge amount of positive fan reaction to the episode that they decided to keep it going and plan out the whole arc from that point on.
*** For "War of the Fat Italians 2018", [=SMG4=] went through 3 iterations of the rap battle before settling on the final product. Also, the therapist at the end was originally going to be a bootleg Series/DrPhil model rather than [=SMG3=].
** Tari was going to have a much more robotic appearance with headphones, a VideoGame/{{Bomberman}}-style antenna, a VideoGame/{{Rayman}}-style lack of a neck, and a D-pad for a right eye. This orignal design would show up in "Into The Marioverse" and is the only Tari in that episode to ''not'' be voiced by Celeste Notley-Smith.
** "Mario the Ultimate Gamer" was conceived over a year before its release. It was going to be about Mario competing in Esports and needing a trainer; said trainer would've been Tari in a dumpster in the back of Peach's castle.
** Collab entries by Meneer en mevrouw trein and [=Akuago220=] were planned to appear in the 3 million collab, but were ultimately scrapped. Despite this, their names are still listed in the credits.
** The Anime Arc was also largely different than what it ended up being:
*** Boopkins was originally slated to be the main character, and he would be trying to make a company for smuggling anime into the Mushroom Kingdom following the Anime Ban. There was even a logo made for the company. Luke and Kevin ultimately didn't think they could make an entire arc out of the idea, so it was changed into what it is now.
*** The Splatfest half of the Arc was originally its own arc idea, with Meggy going to do Splatfest until she gets attacked in the middle of the competition. The conspirators would've originally been an alien/shark species with their own location, but Luke and Kevin realized it would be too much work for them, especially since they were still working on Season 1 of ''WebAnimation/MetaRunner''. They ultimately kept the base idea and merged that with the base idea for the Anime Arc.
*** Axol originally ''was'' supposed to be the BigBad of the arc, as many had speculated, but Luke and Kevin ultimately didn't know how Axol would be able to pull off kidnapping the Inkling population on his own (this was before they came up with Inkweaver), nor what his motive would be for doing so. He was ultimately switched over to the good guys' side in order to make everything easier to explain and [[spoiler:Francis]] was made the BigBad in his stead. The others listing Axol as a suspect [[OrphanedReference is a remnant of this scrapped plot]].
** Meggy's human redesign had many iterations made, with the development spanning ''months'', before settling on the final product.
** Melony's [[HumanityEnsues human form]] was supposed to debut in "War Of The Simps" after falling into Nathaniel Bandy's waifu machine. However, the model wasn't completed in time, so Melony was just relegated to a cameo (as NB's [[TheRival streaming rival]]). Her human form debuted a couple episodes later in "Mario's Mask Of Madness". This meant that Melony almost wouldn't have gained Fierce Deity powers.
** The "Welcome to GLITCH" video has a shot of [[https://www.reddit.com/r/SMG4/comments/pplg29/is_that_a_human_axol_this_came_from_the_original/?sort=top beta and alpha designs for Axol]], showing he was originally going to be a human in the beta stage before becoming an Axolotl in the alpha stage. His alpha design also has differences from what he would become, most prominently a moustache and large eyebrows.
** The Genesis Arc was first revealed in its official playlist under the name "Super Meme Genesis", but was quickly changed to its current name not long after. Of note is that the original name matches up to the SMG acronym, implying it may have been considered for being its true meaning before "Super Meme Guardian".
** "She's Back!" originally ''did'' have [[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8LcA3grYZg0GNpxlXh8owg/community?lb=Ugzz50qKAShLLrrWDCl4AaABCQ a skit for Luigi]], but the team ultimately forgot to add it. The skit itself is about [[{{Irony}} Luigi realizing he wasn't included in the main cast's then-recent adventures]].
** [[https://twitter.com/smg4official/status/1514374179600146437/photo/1 Concept]] [[https://twitter.com/smg4official/status/1514395799790182400 art]] for [=SMG0=] shows that he was originally envisioned as a simple stick figure with a red eye in his eldritch form (which fits the look of his arm to a T). Then the team went through more monstrous designs (some which look even creepier than his final design) to fit in with the theme of Zero being corrupted before finally settling on his current design.
** Mario catching Meggy in "The Cursed Tapes" was one of three adlibs the editor [=MediExcalibur2012=] (a.k.a Paul Stylianou) had in mind. The others included having Meggy escape and land on her feet, and her slamming into the wall. These others scenarios were scrapped when Paul decided, after doing a ''lot'' of research into why Meggy had become so divisive, to get Mario more involved and revitalize his friendship with Meggy. Fan reaction to that scene proved his theory correct.
*** In a similar vein, "Mario Reacts to Nintendo Memes 11 Feat. Meggy" was supposed to have an additional scene at the end of the ''Mario Kart Wii'' sequence after Meggy crashes into the wall and explodes where Mario catches her and tells her "You're the superstar!". Paul was disappointed it was cut because he loves the wholesomeness of it.
*** Another scene changed during production was where Mario crashed the girls' slumber party pretending to be gay. In the final cut, Mario sits between Tari and Meggy while pointing cooly at Tari with both hands. Paul's original cut had Mario point with only his left hand while using his right arm to pull Meggy into a side-hug.
** The new banner after the release of "[NINTENDO HAS CLAIMED THIS VIDEO]" was supposed to be a lot darker, but was scrapped in favor of the remaining characters under Lawyer Kong's shadow.
** "[[Recap/SMG4sMarioBloopersWarOfTheFatItalians2023 War of the Fat Italians 2023]]" is full of these moments, given the episode was written with the idea of fans choosing the next course of action for [=SMG3=] and 4, the biggest one being that the episode could have ended with Mario and Marty escaping with [=SMG3's=] notebook if the fans had picked enough bad options. In particular, the soundtrack version of "Roll the Die" has an unused ending that sounds somber (while also containing the Mysterious TV Guy's {{Leitmotif}}), presumably reserved for a potential bad ending.

** During the early days of Meggy's addition to the main cast, one of the main complaints regarding her was how she seemingly had no flaws and was perfect at everything, especially compared to the rest of the cast. Since then, [=SMG4=] has taken steps to make Meggy more relatable by giving her noticeable flaws such as her utter inability to cook, her pathological fear of anime, and most notably her impatience and TriggerHappy nature (seen most clearly in "Final Fantasy Mario" and "Mario and the Bob Mansion"), as well as showing her actually losing, such as in "The Mario Carnival" and "Super Challenge 64".
** Quite a few concerning the shafting of older characters:
*** A common complaint from older fans in 2017-18 was that while the newer characters from Fishy Boopkins onward were unique and cool, they still took a lot of screentime away from older characters. "Mario And...The Well" and "A Day In The Life Of Everyone" are both episodes devoted to showing many of the older and shafted characters, showing that [=SMG4=] hasn't forgotten them.
*** Another complaint that some fans had was Peach became OutOfFocus and barely appeared in the bloopers following Meggy becoming the most prominent female character. "Stupid Mario [=3D=] World" brings Peach back to prominence, even having her {{Lampshade}} her long absence.
*** Among the many characters fans felt had been shafted, Swagmaster and Chris were among the most heavily requested to be brought back from 2018-2019. "Mario's Prison Escape" and the Anime Arc merge the ''Guards N' Retards'' series with the main ''[=SMG4=]'' series and give Chris and Swagmaster major supporting roles from there on.
*** The 10th anniversary movie addresses and finally provides an explanation for one of the most common questions classic fans had: What happened to the Mario recolors? [[spoiler:They were all gradually kidnapped over the years by Zero in his hunt for Mario, explaining their gradual disappearances. Many of them proceed to reappear for the movie, with FM and X in particular getting supporting roles alongside the main cast. When they're all freed at the end, they establish their own InUniverse town, Bloopersville, providing WorldBuilding and showing that while most of them likely won't appear again, they haven't been forgotten.]]
** During Saiko's early appearances, she was criticized partially for her voice lines, with many finding them too annoying and repetitive. This was rectified with her gradually gaining a wider selection of voice clips that everyone agrees makes her VoiceGrunting far more bearable than it was.
** If you thought Waluigi [[KarmaHoudini got off too easy for all the destruction he caused]] during his arc, the next ArcVillain, Bob, wasn't so EasilyForgiven, and had to work on setting things right. This is taken to an even bigger extent with the villains of most future arcs, who aren't given a chance at redemption like the first two and are given heavy comeuppance instead. It helps that most of the later villains are generally more unlikable than Waluigi and Bob and usually meant to be seen as evil to begin with.
** At the end of the first part of their two-part special, "Treasure Hunt with the Bois", [=SMG4=] and Kevin rush in to ensure fans that it's not going to be an arc, stating that they're experimenting with making two-parter shorts rather than overarching plots. Considering one of the main complaints of the The Anime Arc was how long it was, it's not hard to see why.
** "The Big Bad Bully" and "Untitled Mario Video" were uploaded in early October of 2019, when the annual War of the Fat Italians is normally released, leaving fans wondering if [=SMG4=] and Kevin had forgotten about it. The latter video was flooded with comments either asking when the war would be or suggesting challenges for it. Two days later, the [=WotFI=] announcement was posted.
** In direct response to "The Fan Written Episode" being seen as an inferior Subscriber special compared to the fan collabs by some, Luke and Kevin [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8QxtqhGhhA&ab_channel=SMG4 announced]] a collab to celebrate the end of 2020. In their words, "we heard you loud and clear".
** Melony unlocking the powers of the Fierce Diety Mask during the 10th anniversary special was seen as this after Luke and Kevin claimed prior that she didn't get any of the mask's powers.
** Starting in "Meggy's Bootcamp", Meggy began getting a notorious reputation for her {{Wangst}} behavior, which got lampshaded in many episodes and started getting rectified in ''Sunset Paradise''. Upon returning from Port Aurora, she was shown to be finally moving back towards the positive, spunky attitude of her earlier characterization, leaving many happy that she was finally getting out of wangst territory.
** The beginning of "If Mario Was In... Anime" addresses many complaints concerning Axol's {{flanderization}}. In addition, the ending sees Inkweaver finally getting fixed, quelling a complaint that the pen getting broken in "The Internet Graveyard" took away one of the big things that made Axol interesting and unique.
** While the event itself remains controversial, [[spoiler:Axol's death seems to go out of its way to avoid the caveats the previous permanent deaths (such as Desti's) fell under. It's the death of a mainliner, addressing the criticism that true deaths only happened to minor characters, is established as the only way to stop the BigBad from winning in the moment and the body disintegrates after, answering the questions of whether it could feasibly be justified in the world of [=SMG4=] and why it can't simply be undone.]]
** Following the massive fandom divide over Kaizo's finished design, [=SMG4=] confirmed ahead of time through the original Instagram post revealing his finished concept art that he would be tweaked to better fit into the series.
** After the upload of "The Meme Games 2022", [=SMG4=] addressed concerns that The Meme Games were potentially replacing WOTFI by confirming it wasn't.
** Paul Stylianou, better known as [=MediExcalibur2012=], one of [=SMG4's=] editors, has been observing fan feedback and reactions and finding ways to incorporate them into future videos. After seeing the fandom's opinions on Mario and Meggy's friendship, for example, he adlibbed a scene in "The Cursed Tapes" where Mario catches her. This went over very well with fans, and he would continue to add moments that establish that Mario and Meggy are indeed close friends.
** To say that Fishy Boopkins’ Lawsuit Arc redesign was controversial would be an understatement. After a new design was teased with the intro for "Mario Plays Cat Mario but every time he dies the walls close in" showing a brand new design for Boopkins among the other character heads, the video announcing the movie "It's Gotta Be Perfect" not only officially reveals Boopkin's new redesign, which leans closer to the original Spike design than before, but also reveals slight upgrades for the designs of [=SMG4=], [=SMG3=], and even Meggy (the second time her human design has been tweaked, having previously been upgraded after returning from ''Sunset Paradise''). Bob, whose Lawsuit Arc redesign was the least controversial of the bunch, is pointedly announced as being left as is.
** Overall, the entire first quarter of 2023 is this. After massively divisive episodes in 2022, 2023 has been producing episodes mostly well-received by the fandom, with several complaints about 2022 being addressed. Tari and Bowser are both given episodes with them as the focuses in "Mario Goes to Ohio" and "Mario Steals the Constitution" respectively after they were OutOfFocus last season (Though justified in Tari's case as the final season of ''Meta Runner'' was airing, and it was always longstanding policy for her to take a backseat when her own show aired) and the massively divisive Lawsuit Arc redesigns would get redesigned themselves, which many fans think is for the better. Additionally, Tari herself would finally get a redesign of her own to better fit the rest of the cast, after spending most of the year as the only remaining mainstay without one, and would also become one of the main focuses in the middle of the season, yet again due to her OutOfFocus status last season.
** In a way, the announcement of "War of the Fat Italians 2023" addresses the controversial inclusion of characters other than [=SMG4=] and Mario, which was criticized as [[ArtifactTitle defeating the purpose of the title]] (that Mario went to "war" with a recolor of himself). The trailer for "[=WotFI=] 2023" implies the challenge will be strictly between Mario and [=SMGs=] 3 and 4 – while the Meme Guardians are no longer Mario recolors due to the events of the previous year's [=WotFI=], it at least keeps the "fat" part of the title relevant, given they're both still designed with a similar build to the plumber himself. Sure enough, the episode really is just [=SMGs=] 3 and 4 against Mario and Marty (a ''cardboard'' Fat Italian). While ''most'' of the rest of the primary cast appear, their parts in the episode are minor at best.

* MissingEpisode: As mentioned above, the episodes "0% of Spaghetti", "The [=SMG4=] Weight Losers", "[=SMG4=] Joins The YTR", "[=Starman3=] Gets 5,000 Subs!", and "Toad Has A Secret" were all privatized by Luke and Kevin.

* BreakthroughHit: "Who let the chomp out" is considered to be the blooper that really started to bring attention to the channel, becoming his most viewed video rather quickly and keeping that position ever since.

** In some Hobo Bros reaction videos, Luke indicated his displeasure towards the vast majority of videos he made prior to "Seaside Stupidity Part 1" as this. That video introduced Fishy Boopkins and marks Kevin slowly becoming more involved with the production. Kevin in one fell swoop called nearly every video made before his involvement "cancer".
