* SurpriseRelease: Season 2's "Those Old Scientists" was released several days early on Paramount+ after a screening at 2022's San Diego Comic-Con.

** Creator/WilliamShatner was shown Creator/PaulWesley's take on James T. Kirk during an appearance at San Diego Comic Con 2022 and was very pleased with it.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: [[WhatCouldHaveBeen/StarTrek Enough for its own page]]

* IKnewIt: As soon as the episode titles became publically known, several fans theorized that "Subspace Rhapsody" would turn out to be a MusicalEpisode. [[https://twitter.com/StarTrekOnPPlus/status/1682857549111123968?s=20 A special preview]] released during SDCC revealed they were right, with the songs being performed by the cast and written by [[Music/LettersToCleo Kay Hanley]] and [[Series/CrazyExGirlfriend Tom Polce]].

** Babs Olusanmokun is Nigerian; his character, Joseph M'Benga, is Kenyan. (Of course, to anyone who thinks that AfricaIsACountry, the distinction is most likely meaningless.)

* DisabledCharacterDisabledActor: The character of Hemmer is from the Aenar species of Andorians, who are blind. His actor, Bruce Horak, is himself blind in one eye and partially blind in the other. This also carries over to his Klingon character Garkog, who wears an eyepatch over his right eye.

** Chris Doohan, son of the late Creator/JamesDoohan, gave his stamp of approval over [[spoiler:Martin Quinn playing Scotty, taking over the role his father made famous]].

* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Creator/JonathanFrakes was going to direct episodes for Season 1, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented this. He was, fortunately, allowed to direct episodes for Season 2.
** The strange ''Crossfield''-class in "[[Recap/StarTrekStrangeNewWorldsS2E1TheBrokenCircle The Broken Circle]]" was originally meant to be an [[Series/StarTrekEnterprise NX-class]], which likely explains its stern section looking like an inverted NX's twin-boom tail instead of ''Discovery'''s chevron-shaped secondary hull. Budget constraints forced the reuse of ''Series/StarTrekDiscovery'' sets.
** Creator/PaulWesley discussed with the directors making Kirk's first meeting with Spock more of a big deal, but they convinced him to leave it as it was to establish the "curiosity" that would draw the two together further.
** Before "Subspace Rhapsody", there were previous pushes by Ron Moore on ''TNG'' and ''Deep Space Nine'', even as far as ''Enterprise'', to develop a ''Star Trek'' musical episode, but it was all shot down. ''Picard'' also toyed with the idea of a musical episode, but nothing ever came of it.

** "[[Recap/StarTrekStrangeNewWorldsS1E01StrangeNewWorlds Strange New Worlds]]": Spock and T'Pring confirm something that the ExpandedUniverse and fanon have gone back-and-forth on for quite a while: Vulcans are still perfectly capable of having sex even when ''not'' in ''[[MatingSeasonMayhem pon farr]]'' (based on official dates, Spock is scheduled for his next cycle sometime in season 2 or 3, which will likely be Leila Kalomi from "This Side of Paradise").

** Also Inverted. Both Una (Rebecca Romjin) and Chapel (Jess Bush) were originally played by Majel Barrett, but receive new (separate) casting here.

** Creator/AdrianHolmes replaces the late Creator/JamesDoohan, who voiced the character on ''WesternAnimation/StarTrekTheAnimatedSeries'', as Robert April. [[spoiler:Doohan's other more famous role as Montgomery Scott is taken over by Matthew Wolf during the Season 1 finale, albeit under the credit of "Engineer".]]
