* WagTheDirector: This episode came about as the direct result of Creator/NanaVisitor, who played Kira, flat-out refusing to go along with the writers' initial plans for a Kira/Dukat romance.[[note]]Visitor also opposed Kira/Odo, feeling the two were BetterAsFriends (as did Rene Auberjonois), but didn't contest that pairing, perhaps in deference to the writers having backed down with regards to Kira/Dukat.[[/note]] Basically this was as close as the writers could get to writing the Kira/Dukat romance they wanted while at the same time mollifying Visitor's concerns about Kira's character. Even then, the original ending had Kira outright forgive her mother, but Nana Visitor argued that it wouldn't be that easy for Kira to forgive collaboration with the Cardassians or Dukat.
