* ThrowItIn: Martyn's comment on Day 93 about having to leave the other rats behind at the end of the ''WebVideo/RatsSMP'' is [[https://www.tumblr.com/inthelittlewood/732687540868530176/i-hope-you-know-youve-given-me-a-near-breakdown?source=share reportedly]] an ad-lib because he never had an actual "old crew" to anyone, nor did he claim to have one with regard to his fake backstory, so "it felt like the most appropriate shift".

* {{Blooper}}: Since most of the series is first filmed live on streams then cut down into episodic highlights, there are ''many'' behind-the-scenes bumps in the recording process that don't make it into the [=YouTube=] videos.

* ExecutiveVeto: After the Kangacrew crashes the server in the finale on Day 134, cc!Scott originally wanted to keep two of them on the battlefield with him for Take Two of the battle, but cc!Owen vetoes this, not wanting to risk another server crash.

* FandomNod: During the "Final Wishes" lore event on Day 112, Owen brings up the possibility of the Denholm parents being Cultists, a fairly popular theory discussed on the [=POWCreations=] Discord server.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen:

** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB1vBI6em-I&t=1185s earliest plans]] for Scott's character were that he would be a mer pretending to be human, but the idea of archetypical mythological creatures existing in the ''Pirates'' universe was eventually phased out. cc!Scott later carried out a similar idea in the ''WebVideo/LimitedLifeSMP'', instead.
** The Denholm brothers subplot only manifested as a canonical sibling relationship in response to comments stating that the two characters' coats looked similar during the cast announcements.
** What Martyn's stream chat manifested as came from the result of a poll; they are currently his boot rats, but the other option in the poll was [[PirateParrot parrots]].
** The Denholm parents were possibly originally slated to make appearances in the series proper, as seen by them having had Minecraft skin designs ready to go for months, but scheduling conflicts mean a lot less character lore is explored and any potential appearances from them in the series' original run-time had to be shelved.
** Apokuna originally had other lore plans for the bounty on him, but Kyle went through with the stabbing job on Day 33 (August 31) before Apo could act on them.
** Several of the other characters could have been in different factions from canon:
*** One of Acho's [[https://clips.twitch.tv/SmallSmokyOxBrainSlug-4GrejjzyfqkJhvUF alternate storylines]] involved star joining the Kite faction (as opposed to just choosing between Herons and Nightingales as in canon), but the idea was ultimately scrapped because cc!Acho didn't want to play such a character in the end. His post-canon [=Q&A=] livestream elaborates that in this continuity, Acho would have so consumed by revenge [[spoiler:for Mahara]] that star would have repressed all emotion other than anger, hence joining the Kites. The same livestream also states that star was originally envisioned as a Heron, hence the coat design.
*** Eloise [[https://clips.twitch.tv/SnappyColdSangLitFam-juq0FoUNcKC6UPO9 could have become a Nightingale]] had her backstory been played out slightly differently.
*** A post-canon [=Q&A=] livestream states that in an alternate storyline, Kuervo would have been a Nightingale (and naturally blond). Specifically, after finding out about [[spoiler:his brother's DeceptiveLegacy]] at age 9 instead of 16 through a letter in the basement, he would have stumbled across a rogue pirate crew in a tavern and tried to join up with them [[spoiler:for having the camraderie the Armada lacked]], only to be rejected for being a child but be able to actually join up about three years later for being loyal and holding on to the promise that they'd come back; he would then adopt his current name and dye his hair, and later be appointed captain upon the last captain's death and eventually join a faction with said captain's advice.[[note]]The crew would have been composed of former Isles-pirates who were thrown out for whatever reason.[[/note]] This idea was later discarded for a lack of CharacterDevelopment potential, but even in his current incarnation, there were plans for Kuervo to join the Nightingale faction to recruit them for his revenge crew, but he didn't receive an offer from them on Day 1 and thus decided against it.
*** [[https://www.tumblr.com/willowmvp/736533031877296128/first-off-amazing-storytelling-as-usual-im-not?source=share An alternate plotline]] would have involved a much more embittered Will switching to the Herons in search of his "real" family and being a self-destructive LegacySeeker. There was also a considered romantic subplot between him and Caer, a character from his backstory, but it didn't work out with the established worldbuilding.
** One ''WebVideo/{{Hermitcraft}}'' livestream [[https://www.tumblr.com/ani-craft/729651763289915392/id-be-a-terrible-pirate-to-be-honest?source=share reveals]] that Rendog received an invitation to join the SMP but declined.
** According to [=MrMadSpy=] in Martyn's chat on Day 124, the mangrove "mother tree" found in the Northeastern Seas was meant to be the setting of a now-cancelled event.
** From cc!Acho's post-canon [=Q&A=] "writer's room" livestream:
*** [[spoiler:Claud's death]] was supposed to happen in front of Shep, but that point, the island was in such a chaotic state that it was deemed unfeasible on the spot.
*** [[spoiler:The Enchantress' death]] in the battle on the Faction Isles was supposed to occur as [[spoiler:Sausage rushes up to declare they can be together as Acho "lost the rivalry for her hand" in death, only for cc!Acho, playing Ohca the Cultist, to kill her]]. This ultimately doesn't come to pass as planned.
** Since the SMP's ending is chosen by AudienceParticipation vote, the alternate ending for if the stream chats chose differently is posted on [=POWCreations=]' Patreon: instead of [[spoiler:a BittersweetEnding where half of the cast manages to survive to see both Iris and Ivy's defeat and the Ice Walls' fall]], it would have been [[spoiler:a DownerEnding]].

** Acho, Apokuna, Bek, Eloise, Krow, Martyn, Oli, Olive (as Oliver), Owen, Scott, Shelby, Sniff, Tubbo, and Will are all returning members from the ''WebVideo/RatsSMP'', while Aimsey, Guqqie, Kyle, Seapeekay, and Water made guest appearances in that series; Jimmy Solidarity makes a guest appearance in Pirates, and [=KaraCorvus=] and Nukeri make a guest appearance in both series.
** Apokuna, Olive, Owen, and Sausage have all played characters in the [=POWMini=] story "A Wild Pig's Chase", with Bek, Jojo, Kyle, Martyn, and Reddoons making guest appearances as [=NPCs=].

** Members of the ''WebVideo/OutsidersSMP'' on the server include Acho, Apokuna, Bek, Eloise (as Soup), Graecie, Krow, Kyle, Owen, and Red. Will, Scott, and Water have also made appearances as [=NPCs=].

* SerendipityWritesThePlot: The Day 93 Halloween event has to be cut short and there are only two rounds in the boss battle against the main antagonist in the recording. The reasoning behind it is simple: cc!Martyn was recording WebVideo/{{Secret Life|SMP}} immediately after the event and the cast had to work around the time constraint so he wouldn't be late, especially considering the technical difficulties that occurred halfway through the lore stream. In the end, the [=YouTube=] adaptations just cut it down to the first round.

* QueerCharacterQueerActor: Inverted, in a sense. If a content creator involved in the SMP is LGBTQ+, it is generally assumed that their character counterpart is also LGBTQ+ by the nature of Minecraft roleplays, with the character's queer identity and preferred pronouns matching that of the creator [[WordOfGay unless stated otherwise]].

** Several of the characters have canonical heights, but this is not apparent in-game as all players use the standard 180cm (about 5'11") avatar.

** In the finale, at least 10 members of the Kangacrew are killed off in-game between the two takes of the Battle on the Faction Isles using admin commands because their presence has caused the entire server to crash altogether in the first take. However, despite the death messages, cc!Scott has reassured his chat that in-universe, they're still alive and kept in the museum.

* AscendedFanon: In response to a stream chat message, cc!Eloise has tentatively confirmed that her character [[https://clips.twitch.tv/GorgeousExpensiveAnteaterItsBoshyTime-VQ9D83reTLffMFm5 uses 'Jones' as a family name pseudonym]] during her undercover stint on the Faction Isles.

** Multiple server members who are inactive during a lore stream, whether it be someone not involved in a character's personal lore or someone whose character is already dead, have been known to play Cultist characters. For example, cc!Apo played [[https://twitter.com/willowmvp/status/1732879603398480228?s=20 one of the Cultists]] involved in Will's character lore finale, and cc!Acho played the "Insane Cultist" Ohca in the finale[[note]]though amusingly, many chatters figured this out ''by his UHC-influenced PVP style'' rather than the SdrawkcabName[[/note]].

** The server crashes from technical difficulties multiple times throughout the finale on Day 134, once even halfway through a battle due to Scott's ''huge'' Kangacrew.

* GameplayAndStorySegregation: According to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aPEsdebqjY Seapeekay's Behind the Scenes video]] for SMP Launch Day, the Faction Representatives don't exist in-game; the books listing everyone's potential faction were already written and whenever he "consults" the Representatives, he's just there to check and collect the books. However, since his Recruitment Officer NPC's instruction book directs him on what to say during the improv roleplay, the Representatives likely ''do'' exist in-universe as {{Unknown Character}}s.

*** cc!Oli [[KilledByRequest wanted his character to die in the battle]], which is presumably why he didn't livestream his perspective, but cc!Acho decided against it so that his character could participate in the rest of the finale.

** Prior to the start of the SMP, Owen has [[https://www.tumblr.com/fallow-foot/723192208090677248/ayo-pirate-owen-heher-pan?source=share confirmed]] that his character on the server is pan and uses he/her pronouns.

* ProductionNickname: According to the creators' post-canon [=Q&A=] livestreams, [[spoiler:Mahara]] (from Acho's backstory) was originally named 'Valen' before the final cut, and Kuervo's brother Alex was named 'Theo' before the name was changed for being "too English" for a Spanish character.
