* AdoredByTheNetwork: When ''Grand Theft Auto Online'' surpassed the game's single-player mode, Rockstar almost completely dropped their support of the latter in favor of the former.

** 2021 saw Rockstar butting heads with the aforementioned ''Saints Row'' franchise again, this time with ''GTA V'' getting an UpdatedRerelease for [[UsefulNotes/TheNinthGenerationOfConsoleVideoGames ninth generation consoles]] less than half a year after ''VideoGame/SaintsRowTheThird'' got its own re-release.

* ApprovalOfGod: Slink Johnson (Lamar) watched a bunch of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7wU1r_TrOI Lamar Roasts Franklin memes]] and clearly had a fun time sitting through every one of them. He even got in on the action by appearing on [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU0oHq9Y6Ws a "real life" version of the meme]] alongside Shawn Fonteno (Franklin). * ActorInspiredElement: Trevor's initial backstory was that he grew up in the rural American backwoods. However, when Canadian actor Steven Ogg was hired to voice the character, the producers decided to work Ogg's thick Canadian accent into the character. As a result, Trevor's origins were changed and the character was now purported to have grown up "near the Canadian border". Trevor's Canadian origins are something of an in-joke throughout the game, as numerous characters express anti-Canadian sentiment.

** A smaller scale example with Ned Luke. Michael's signature line "You forget a thousand things everyday. Make sure this is one of them." was assumed to be his favorite line, but Ned confirmed on his [=TikTok=] that he actually hated because of the way it was written.

* IKnewIt:
** Fans were predicting that the game would have multiple playable characters not long after the first trailer came out, going by said trailer's focus on different people at different points. It was nearly a year later when Rockstar confirmed this.
** On [=GTAForums=], [[http://gtaforums.com/topic/491242-mapping-los-santos-buildinglandmark-analysis/ an entire thread]] (warning: the thread is [[ArchiveBinge hundreds of pages]] long) was devoted to mapping out the game's play area, going by what information could be gathered from screenshots and trailers. What they came up with turned out to be quite similar to the snippets of the map that were revealed with the announcement of the game's special editions; compare the [[http://www.flickr.com/photos/63305485@N04/8739389940/in/set-72157629958877959 last map]] made before the reveal to [[http://images.gameru.net/image/direct/7d711b07ee.jpg this semi-official map]] (put together from the aforementioned snippets). Likewise, their guesses as to the layout of the countryside [[http://i.imgur.com/Tsi5cDt.jpg were confirmed]] when the full official map (taken from a strategy guide) was leaked.
** Fans were expecting the game's multiplayer component, ''Grand Theft Auto Online'', to be somewhat similar in style to an [[MassivelyMultiplayerOnlineRolePlayingGame MMORPG]], with more robust character customization than the last game's multiplayer, a free roaming "lobby" similar to the multiplayer of ''VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption'', the ability to customize and store cars, and multiplayer heists. This and more has all since been [[http://www.computerandvideogames.com/424264/gta-online-first-look-rockstars-persistent-online-world-is-its-most-ambitious-project-in-years/ confirmed]].
** The PC version. For around 9 months, ''GTA V'' was the Holy Grail and the forbidden fruit of PC gaming... until E3 2014.

** Shawn Fonteno came very close to giving up on the game early in production, due to being frustrated with the mocap work for the film, and not understanding what the game was really about (as Rockstar had not told him he was working on a GTA project for secrecy reasonsa). Thankfully, he was convinced to stay on.

** Based on the amount of available combat and hijacking vocals for [=NPCs=] in the game, it's safe to guess that the online player characters were once planned to be voiced.
** A design document going around suggests that Single Player was to have 3 DLC packs; One continuing the default GTA experience, one which featured Aliens cracking open a mountain and starting a full-scale invasion with a ship hidden inside (The mural is believed to connect to it) and a Next Gen only Zombie DLC. The latter two would have featured changes to the map, such as destroyed buildings, walled off Los Santos and campsites on the countryside. They were scrapped after Leslie Benzies left Rockstar Games and they were forced to reorganize their internals, with the GTA Online creators being the only unaffected. Modders have unearthed what seems to be a DLC select with the options "GTA" "Trevor" and "Dead". Rockstar [[WordOfGod eventually revealed]] that the main reason the singleplayer DLC's were scrapped was the growing interest in GTA Online and the then unannounced ''VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption2'', which required a lot of attention from them. This may be technically [[SubvertedTrope subversion]], as a lot of the planned content eventually made it's way to the multiplayer mode, although heavily edited.

* IAmNotSpock: Creator/StevenOgg has grown tired of being associated with Trevor and fans pestering him to berate them in character. Because of this, he declined to return for follow-up stories in ''Online'' and the Fooliganz were created to take his place.

* MemeAcknowledgement: Shawn Fonteno (Franklin) and Slink Johnson (Lamar) eventually got together to recreate the memetic "Lamar Roasts Franklin" scene [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU0oHq9Y6Ws in live action]].

** Lamar Davis, who is also 25, is played by Slink Johnson, who was 54 at the time of the game's release.

Fellow GTA V actor Shawn Fonteno also had a rap sheet in real life as well, having been in gang life in much the same way as Franklin did.
