** Lyanna Mormont is around 10-11 during during her introduction in Season 6. Creator/BellaRamsey was a year older than her character during production of said season.

** Arya mentions in Season 7 that Sansa is younger than Lyanna Mormont during the events of the first season. Sansa was 13, matching Creator/SophieTurner's age during production of Season 1, while Creator/BellaRamsey entered the series during Season 6 at 11-12, and Stannis' dialogue in Season 5 explicitly states that Lyanna is the same age as her actress.

** The small unheard prayer that Ned mutters upon his death was an actual prayer of Bean's choice.

* ApprovalOfGod: Creator/GeorgeRRMartin himself thinks that the show's versions of Osha and Shae are BetterThanCanon. He also called Creator/JackGleeson following Joffrey's death and congratulated him for a job well done.

* WagTheDirector: For the final season, the showrunners wanted a minor subplot around Davos hitting on Missandei, but [https://www.insider.com/game-of-thrones-liam-cunningham-fought-davos-crushing-on-missandei-2020-10?amp Liam Cunningham flatly refused.] Already uncomfortable about the age difference (he was 56, Nathalie Emmanuel was 28), he was concerned it would cast his interactions with Shireen and Lyanna Mormont in a totally different light, and told them "You're not undoing my hard work engendering the sympathy of the audience to have him be a perv." Cunningham later wondered if Benioff had thrown in that idea purely to troll him.

** Since season 5 caught up with all the published books, the production of season 6 suffered from this big time. As a result, many major plot points were leaked weeks or months before the episodes aired. And then there's poor Creator/KitHarington, who[[spoiler:, thanks to Jon Snow being officially dead at that point,]] couldn't get anywhere near the shooting locations without being hunted by paparazzi.

** In a Twitch Stream with her Brother, Creator/MaisieWilliams admitted that after a rewatch of the show, she believed the show did indeed "fall off at the End." although she states she still has positive feelings about the show overall.
* CreatorBreakdown:

** Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio Forel) thinks [[spoiler:Daenerys becoming a tyrant and Bran Stark being crowned king]] made sense, but agrees that the last three episodes of the series were rushed. However, he still praised the episodes two and three of the final season.

* FriendshipOnTheSet: Creator/SophieTurner and Creator/MaisieWilliams developed a deep and abiding friendship which has lasted long after the end of the series. Williams describes Turner as her "favorite person" on the show and says that because they played sisters, they became like sisters.

* NamesTheSame:
** No, Jon Snow is ''not'' a reporter and anchor for the British Channel 4 News. {{Lampshaded}} when the reporter tweeted he was interviewing Kit Harrington, asking "who really knows nothing", later [[http://www.channel4.com/news/jon-snow-game-of-thrones-channel-4-news-video posting this on Channel 4's website]]. He is also not John Snow, the British doctor who invented modern epidemiology and stopped a cholera outbreak in London.
** Daenerys bears the title Khaleesi, which in many countries is pronounced the same way as the Calici virus, the most common cause of viral stomach flu in humans (including causing the so-called "winter vomiting disease" which can last for up to 72 hours).

* RealLifeWritesTheHairstyle: Tyrion and Jaime's hair darkens over the course of the series, starting at golden blond and becoming brown by Season 8. This is because their two actors are naturally brunet, and the constant dyeing took its toll. It also added a nice visual for them to have an ExpositoryHairstyleChange as their characters developed.

* DuelingShows: With ''Series/TheWalkingDead''. Both shows are among the most popular and notable from TheNewTens, both are adaptations of then-niche works, both deal with the HumansAreBastards trope, and most importantly, both shows establish that AnyoneCanDie. Interestingly, despite both shows airing on Sundays but on separate channels, they've never had to literally duel for ratings; ''Walking Dead'' airs in late fall and (ironically) winter, while ''Game of Thrones'' airs in the spring. Frequently, the former's season finale airs just a handful of days from the latter's season premiere.

** Emilia Clarke obviously got the most of it, what with Daenerys becoming the show's BreakoutCharacter. This has mostly been a series of hits and misses - notable bombs she was in included ''Film/TerminatorGenisys'' (in which critics agreed she was miscast) and ''{{Film/Solo}}'' (the first ''Star Wars'' film to ever lose money at the Box Office). But she did win acclaim for ''Film/MeBeforeYou'', earning respect for PlayingAgainstType and starring in a smaller indie project that wasn't a guaranteed hit. Her first film after the show wrapped ''Film/LastChristmas'' was lukewarmly received by critics but a financial success - and her performance was praised. After the incredibly hostile reception to the final season, most critics agreed she was a redeeming factor - so the future does look promising. Furthermore, she's been cast in the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse series ''Secret Invasion'' in an unspecified role.

** Creator/RichardMadden got a lot of hype too, which paid off quite well when he was cast as the prince in Disney's ''{{Film/Cinderella 2015}}''. While his next film ''Film/BastilleDay'' was a flop that saw limited release, he solidified the hype with a new TV series called ''Series/{{Bodyguard UK 2018}}'' - also appearing in critically acclaimed (and commercially successful) films ''Film/{{Rocketman|2019}}'' and ''Film/NineteenSeventeen''. Much like Clarke, Madden will appear in an MCU project as Ikaris in ''Film/{{Eternals}}''.

* FollowTheLeader: The runaway success of the show ushered in an era of gritty medieval-ish/sexualized/political dramas, notably ''Series/{{Vikings}}'', ''{{Series/Camelot}}'', ''Series/{{Britannia}}'', ''Series/TheBastardExecutioner'', ''Series/{{Atlantis}}'', ''Series/MarcoPolo'', ''Series/TheShannaraChronicles'', ''Series/{{See}}'' (which even has Creator/JasonMomoa showing off more BarbarianHero badassery than he ever could in ''[=GoT=]''). Fantasy-wise, there's Creator/{{Netflix}}'s ''Series/{{The Witcher|2019}}'' and a ''massive'' TV series adaptation of ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'', ''Series/TheLordOfTheRingsTheRingsOfPower'' by Creator/{{Amazon}}.

** When she finally appears in flashbacks portrayed by Aisling Franciosi, Lyanna Stark bears a striking resemblance to [[spoiler:her son Jon Snow]]. She also bears [[http://pm1.narvii.com/6143/ecf4f10095bded37b616cfe6eb03c6a5fe061d76_hq.jpg a resemblance to]] Creator/MaisieWilliams (her niece Arya); Arya is described in the books as being like a dead-ringer for a young Lyanna.

* LifeImitatesArt: The relationship between the ''Game of Thrones'' and the Freefolk subreddit is very similar to the one between the South and the Freefolk in the show. The [=GoT=] sub is heavily moderated and has a more relaxed content of mainly fan arts and cosplays, which draws comparison to the strict feudal structure and proper etiquette of the South. Meanwhile, the Freefolk sub has no moderation beyond sitewide rules and the only rules in the sub are self-enforced rules made by the redditors, and their content is mainly memes, which draw parallels to the anarchic nature of the Freefolk and their chaotic culture.

** As a rather infuriating example, the scene of Septa Unella's torture involved actress Hannah Waddingham actually getting waterboarded for 10 hours, without any professional supervision. She later described the shoot to be the second-worst agony of her life since giving birth.

* FandomLifeCycle: In spite of being on cable instead of network TV, ''Game of Thrones'' reached the heights of ''Series/{{Lost}}'' in becoming a work widely recognized and ingrained in contemporary culture, with references to it everywhere and fans even naming their children after characters of the show. Just like ''Lost'', it all came to a halt with the controversial final season, with negative reception from critics and fans. However, it is still the second most-watched show on Creator/HBOMax, and the most pirated series during the pandemic, an impressive feat for a TV series that was finished more than a year ago. ''Series/HouseOfTheDragon'' has seen consistently high viewership since its premiere, and HBO is developing several more spin-offs, including ''Tales of Dunk and Egg'', Robert's Rebellion and an animation, showing that interest in the greater ''A Song of Ice and Fire'' franchise is still strong in spite of the parent shows divisive ending.
