* LateExportForYou: ''GTO: The Early Years'' was released before its [[SequelDisplacement better-known sequel]] ''Manga/GreatTeacherOnizuka'', but wasn't published overseas until after ''GTO'' (and was given the {{Retronym}} ''GTO: The Early Years''). Added DiffLines:

* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: It was only released on VHS ([[NoExportForYou in Japan]]) back in the '90s with no indication, let alone interest, of ever bringing it to DVD. The manga was actually released in English, but it's been out of print for over a decade and some volumes go for almost a hundred dollars.

* NoExportForYou: Unlike its sequel, the [=OVAs=] have never been exported outside of Japan and is looking highly unlikely to ever do so.
* TheOtherDarrin: Creator/TakumiYamazaki voiced Tsuyoshi Tsukai for the first two episodes, but was replaced for some reason by Creator/ToshiyukiMorikawa in the fourth. Morikawa also voiced the villain of the fifth and final episode, Kunito Nakajo.
