** Chiaki fans constantly disappointed in the Ultimate Gamer's constant sidelining in the early major arcs despite her status can take extreme satisfaction in how she essentially steals the show during the KC Grand Prix arc: With her being the one to ultimately win the entire tournament, and dueling several opponents that allow her to prove her merits on-screen, even [[spoiler: defeating ''Junko'' and ''nearly defeating'' the King of Games himself.]]

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** After having canon duels skipped and glossed over numerous times, Chapter 56 features the canonical duel between Yugi and Kaiba in full. Not only that, while said duel is left entirely unchanged from canon; the added expansions courtesy of the commentary and involvement of the ''Danganronpa'' characters only serve to enhance the experience in a way.
** A minor example, but some found [[spoiler:Chiaki's line [[Film/AvengersInfinityWar "I don't feel so good"]] to bring too much {{Narm}} to her losing her soul]]. The author later edited it out.
** Fans unhappy with Dartz being a KarmaHoudini at the end of the Orichalcos arc in canon can take satisfaction that such a thing does not happen here, where he gets a more befitting final fate.
** Initial reactions to the duel between Junko and Chiaki in Chapter 128 were surprisingly negative, due to [[spoiler:Junko giving glimpses of her true face in front of everyone, as well as forcing Chiaki into a pseudo-shadow game by hacking into the hologram system to make them do real damage.]] Fans were concerned that Junko was going too far too early and might end up being [[Main/EasilyForgiven easily forgiven]] with the characters just ignoring her actions so the plot can move forward. Thankfully the followup chapter addressed all these concerns by having several characters call out Junko and having her face consequences for her actions with her first real setback to her plans so far.

* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: Leon's fairy-tale deck got some new, original monsters that are all intentionally based on the corresponding WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} characters, the outlier being Raphaela. While Raphaela represents Rapunzel, she's based on Yang Xiao-Long, who herself is based on Goldilocks. The author admitted he genuinely believed Yang to be based on Rapunzel before it was pointed out.

** Originally the [=DeviantArt=]-exclusive prologue was also meant to be the beginning of the story. The plan was to start with the Hope's Peak Killing Game and tell what happened before through flashbacks when necessary. Instead the author decided to start with the Battle City Tournament and show the events in chronological order.

* CreatorsPest:
** In spite of all the focus and credit that's given to her in the story, the author insists on Junko Enoshima being one of his most hated characters, commonly citing how in-your-face she is with her evil actions, especially her Monokuma persona, and how her despair obsession makes truly punishing her impossible in his eyes. Although he does admit to also enjoy writing her.
** Similarly open is the author with his hatred towards Toko Fukawa (and by extent Genocide Jill), seeing her various quirks as undesirable and claiming her to have barely any character development in contrast to all the attention she's given by canon. Unlike with Junko, this can be seen in the fanfic though. While Genocide Jill [[spoiler:gets unceremoniously sent to the shadow realm during their first appearance]], Toko, on account of not being a duelist, has spent most of the story so far out of focus.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The Kaiba Corp Grand Prix tournament was originally meant to go ''very'' differently. According to WordOfGod, [[spoiler:Joey was meant to lose to Yukizome, who'd then lose against Hajime. On the other side of the bracket, Makoto would've lost to Celeste, while Junko would win against Chiaki and then Celeste. In the finale Junko would have created an upset by beating Hajime and only in the duel with Yugi would she have used the Dark Castle of Despair. Instead the author decided to give Joey some well-deserved credit for his accomplishments, as well as came to the realization that this might've been the last chance to have the Ultimate Gamer face the King of Games in an official tournament before the Danganronpa side of the crossover fully takes over.]]

** When the KCGP Arc began to go on for too long, the author considered completely cutting or at least drastically shortening the already planned Falsebound Kingdom Arc in order to advance the plot faster.
