** Originally, as the prelude to this episode in ''[[Series/{{Torchwood}} Torchwood's]]'' [[Recap/TorchwoodS1E13EndOfDays season finale implied,]] the TARDIS was meant to land inside the Hub instead of above it in Cardiff Bay. This was changed for a better visual for Jack's irregular hop onto the TARDIS, but left the ContinuitySnarl in ''End of Days''' setup for the scene unaddressed.

** The Doctor's response to the Master asking him to "use my name" was originally intended to be TheReveal of who Yana really was, but the writing team decided it would be a pity to have Jacobi not be able to utter his catchphrase during his brief stint as the character.

* ActorAllusion: Though not widely known, this isn't the first time that Sir Creator/DerekJacobi has played the Master. He previously played the same character in ''WebAnimation/ScreamOfTheShalka'' (don't feel too bad; during interviews for this episode Jacobi appeared to have forgotten this too). This isn't even the first time ''Series/DoctorWho'' pulled this one on the fans. In ''AudioPlay/BigFinishDoctorWho'', Geoffrey Beevers (who had played the Master in [[Recap/DoctorWhoS18E6TheKeeperOfTraken "The Keeper of Traken"]]) appeared ''completely out of the blue'' in the Seventh Doctor audio adventure [[Recap/BigFinishDoctorWho021DustBreeding "Dust Breeding"]], playing a guy who turned out to be the Master in disguise. As he hadn't been associated with the role for a good few decades by the time of the story, fans didn't make the connection until TheReveal.

* ShipTease: Aside from continuing the background arc related to Martha's unrequited love for the Doctor, this is also the first episode in which Jack outright admits to being in love with the Doctor as well. Neither get around to saying this to the Doctor's face, of course. As of 2018, this is actually the last time any on-screen reference is made to Jack having such feelings for the Doctor, as ''Torchwood'' soon paired him with Ianto Jones instead.
