* FollowTheLeader: As this series came out around the early 2000's, it definitely feels inspired by UrbanFantasy series that were popular at the time such as Series/Charmed1998 or Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer
* {{Keep Circulating The Tapes}}: The series is now out of print, but can easily be found online or in secondhand/thrift stores.
* {{Orphaned Series}}: Not the original series, but the omnibus books. There were two books released, which included the first six books, but no new issues have been released. Considering that the omnibus series were released in 2010-2011, it seems unlikely that they will be finished.
* RealPlaceBackground: The series takes place in Los Angeles and while there are some well-known locations mentioned (like the Hollywood Bowl), there's plenty of small retail locations that are name-dropped, such as Polka Dots and Moonbeams, Retail Slut, and Aardvark's Odd Ark.
* {{Schedule Slip}}: The first twelve books were written consistently throughout a five year period, but there was a three year gap between the twelfth and final book.
* {{Spinoff}}: SonsOfTheDark was told from the perspective a group of guys who had managed to escape the Atrox and worked to help defeat it.
** There was also SistersOfIsis, which follows a trio of girls from Washington D.C who are assigned by the Egyptian goddess Isis to save the world from an ancient cult that wishes to bring the world back to primordial chaos. However, this takes place in a different universe than the DOTM and SOTD series.
