* CreativeDifferences: According to Adrian Edmondson in his autobiography and on the 2024 ''Bottom: Exposed'' documentary, the series ultimately came to an end because he was getting bored and creatively frustrated with the show and was finding Rik Mayall, who had experienced problems with his memory since his quad-bike accident in 1998, increasingly harder to work with. Mayall for his part was eager to continue working together, leading to some tension between the two when Edmondson pulled the plug after some abortive attempts at reviving it.

Actually, it was usually Rik, at which point Ade would wind him up for another solid five minutes as Rik desperately tried to remember his next line.

--->'''Richie''': Eddie! What on Earth is that?!\\
'''Eddie''': It's a Japanese army Second World War medical kit, in mint condition!\\
'''Richie''': Wow! But Eddie, where on Earth did you--''(turns back to see a door was left swinging open, sporting a Japanese WWII war flag)''\\
''(They both stammer, and after being prompted by Richie, Eddie runs over and slams the door shut while the crowd laughs and cheers. You can actually see tears on Rik's cheeks as he curls into a ball to cover his laughter.)''\\
'''Eddie''': ''(flipping off the crowd while Rik stammers over his next words)'' There was a little mistake there, wasn't there? Did you spot it? Fucking bastards...
** In Bottom Live, Richie reveals that he has decided to commit suicide, but due to the expression on Eddie's face he loses it immediately.
--->'''Richie''': Eddie, now look here! I have some sad and tragic ne-pftftft!!!\\
'''Eddie''': You've got what!?!\\
'''Richie''': (In pain, trying not to laugh) ...Sad... and.. tragic... news...\\
'''Eddie''': I have to say, you were a lot more broken up about it [[BreakingTheFourthWall in rehearsal!]]\\
'''Richie''': (Bright pink in the face, but attempts to turn back to the audience to continue)\\
'''Eddie''': (To the audience) You know, he even made *me* cry!\\
'''Richie''': (Curls up into a ball, tears streaming down his face)

* OutOfOrder: The third episode, "[[{{Recap/BottomContest}} Contest]]", was supposed to be the pilot. The noticeable differences are in the set with the organ being on the "fourth" wall, stairs opposite way, and the fact Richie has shorter hair than usual as well as Eddie visibly showing hair and missing his sideburns indicate that this episode was filmed much earlier than the other episodes in the series.

** There were plans for a fourth season, which would have continued by revealing that Richie and Eddie getting gunned down by the SAS at the end of "[[{{Recap/BottomCarnival}} Carnival]]" was a dream (mocking ''Series/{{Dallas}}''). Another option was to have Richie and Eddie simply survive their shot-wounds, and let the show continue as if nothing has happened.

* InspirationForTheWork: The series was developed while Rik and Ade planned their West End production of ''Theatre/WaitingForGodot'' at the Queen's Theatre. The idea was to create a SpiritualSuccessor to Creator/SamuelBeckett...with swearing and knob gags.

* IWantYouToMeetAnOldFriendOfMine: Christopher Ryan — who played the suave Mike alongside Adrian Edmondson and Creator/RikMayall in ''Series/TheYoungOnes'' — occasionally shows up as Dave Hedgehog. Sadly, Nigel Planer turned down the role of Spudgun, thus denying us a whole cast reunion. (Not to mention reuniting the cast of ''Series/FilthyRichAndCatflap'').

** There was talk of a SequelSeries based on the duo's ''Hooligan's Island'' stage show that would have had them stranded on an island.

* IronyAsSheIsCast: In the series, Eddie can't cook to save his life (he once resorted to eating lard when he was hungry) and has to rely on Richie's terrible cooking. In real life, Creator/AdrianEdmonson is actually a very talented chef who won the 2013 edition of ''Celebrity Series/MasterChef.''

** Over the years, Creator/RikMayall and Adrian Edmondson repeatedly considered to return as their Bottom characters. According to Edmondson, one of those ideas involved an elderly Richie and Eddie living in a retirement home, "[where] we will be hitting each other with colostomy bags". This idea never came to fruition when Mayall died in 2014.
