* The ambient dialogue where everyone discusses their sadness at the death of Halcyon Helen.
* Black Hole Bertie. He was a man with a violent temper who tried everything to get a hang on it, from drugs to breathing exercises. Dating Helen helped more than anything, and then they left. He got so drunk in despair. To top it all off, he never understood he was dating Belinda Bellamy, only one half of Halcyon Helen.
* The main enemies of the story are Rizzo's employees who are BrainwashedAndCrazy via the parasites. When they die, they say something along the lines of "I wanted to make you smile." While Ludovico believes the parasites are BrainwashingForTheGreaterGood, it doesn't appear as though the employee's opinions were taken into account.
* The Rizzo's Raiders mascot is a nervous twitchy sort who had a crush on Helen. She shot and killed him for his trouble. When confronted on this, Helen tries to pass it off as him being a spy for Ludovico, but when further evidence is brought to her attention, she meekly admits she killed an innocent man. And then offers a signed collection of aetherwave vids to his next of kin.
* The truth of Halcyon Helen is revealed: They are a pair of twins named Ruth and Belinda, the latter of which was the actual murder victim. Ruth is deeply affected by Belinda's death and finds it very hard to move on.
* If sided with, Ruth is very affable and friendly to the Unplanned Variable, who has the option of reciprocating her friendship. Alternatively, the Variable can condemn Ruth for the mascot's murder, and say they want nothing to do with her after defeating Ludovico. She's clearly deeply affected by this rejection.

* One of the terminal entries in the Power Plant perfectly sums up the madness, terror and despair that infects the colony.

--> would like to leave early for the day, please deduct delinquency fee from my pay

** Continuing to work with [=SubLight=] reveals that this is actually the ''second'' site of such experiments - the first one was aboard a heliospheric space station, with three more bodies aboard with one plaque to honor their sacrifice for each. Even if the Board couldn't give two shits about their researchers, those researchers very obviously cared about each other.

* The experiments done in the Rizzo's lab are part of the Board's secret plan to modify human genetics to get used to the harsh conditions of living in the Halcyon system, were pretty clearly in the very earliest stages of the development before the town was overrun. Towards the end of the lab, stashed in a corner, you find a single tube with a body floating in it, sealed for eternity. This is the head doctor on the project, who sacrificed himself in order for the project to make significant gains. Everywhere around it are a number of eulogies specifically addressed to the people who would find him years in the future just to let you know what kind of guy he was, with one scientist clearly taking it hard. It's a harrowing reminder that even in a CrapsackWorld built on dark comedy, all of the places in these games used to have people in them that care about the stuff they're doing and the people they work with.

* The Audio Log "For Benji" records the last words of a miner slowly dying after being trapped under collapsed rubble. It gets particularly sad at the very end, when the miner realizes that [[DeadAllAlong he can't hear Benji breathing.]] The voice acting is what sells it.
