* Chapter 248: Meliodas and Elizabeth's fierce argument about Meliodas wanting to become [[spoiler:Demon King]]. As the [[spoiler:Demon King]] is far too powerful to remain in Britannia, it essentially means that [[spoiler:breaking the curse as Demon King would eternally separate them with no hope of reconciliation]]. She's clearly heartbroken at the idea, [[spoiler:begging Meliodas to not leave her forever]], but that pales in comparison to when [[spoiler:Meliodas tells her that he believes her feelings were ingrained in her soul by the Supreme Deity, so when he breaks it, she'll be able to move on from him]], which leads to...
** [[spoiler:Elizabeth tearfully asking why then did Meliodas still seek her out for all those years. The fact that Meliodas has gotten so cynical and dark as to believe such a thing and tell her about it in her face has broken her heart to where for the first time, she actually seems close to giving up. Even Meliodas, with what little emotion remains left in him, clearly sees he's gone too far, but cannot offer any comfort due to how reduced his emotions were besides admitting he could only ever love her and expressing it felt real to him... Until the harsh reality returns and Meliodas makes it clear he won't be persuaded]].

* chapter 271 [[spoiler: Meliodas recounting his biggest failure as an elder brother. His younger brother who looked up to him the same way that Estarossa looked up to Meliodas. Was ordered by his father to execute the vampire clan for the act of rebellion, his lover: Gelda, included. Seeing what had been presented as naught but powerful merciless villain break down in tears, reminiscent to the first time Meliodas lost Elizabeth is truly heartbreaking. [[NotQuiteDead Though there is a light at the end of the tunnel]].]]
** Made worse for the very reasoning of why Zeldris fought so hard and became as cold as he is. [[spoiler: He did so in order to protect Gelda in the first place. Only to then in a cruel twist of fate have to kill her. No wonder Zeldris is so unpleasant.]]

* Tauriel and Saurmiel try to reason with Mael. They tell him that if he maintains the commandment, it will corrupt him from the inside out and he will never regain his Grace of Sunshine. Mael looks at them and says that he loses either way, so he may as well lose on his term. The two never try to fight him, only restrain him so that Gowther can remove the Commandment. Tauriel despite himself can't hold Mael for long and loses his form, crying.

Tauriel despite himself can't hold Mael for long and loses his form, crying. \n He ends up burning them alive, without a shred of remorse at the time.
* Wild's death. He pulls a HeroicSacrifice so that Ban can return to the mortal realm, and Meliodas can return to his body. They protest about this as he charges the Demon King, but he says that Hawk never knew him but he knew them.
* Zeldris looks like a kicked puppy when the Demon King emerged, shedding his tough side when he thinks that Meliodas is going to fulfill his promise. The possessed Meliodas speaks about how LoveIsAWeakness and doesn't address Gelda by name, which makes Zeldris and Elizabeth realize that it's not his brother. Meliodas would ''never'' demean a man in love.
** Also, his reaction when the Demon King says that his heir would serve as a vessel for him. Zeldris has done terrible things, but he would never possess a family member as the means of extending his life and being able to cause destruction.
* Hawk calls out the Demon King for being a terrible parent and cursing his son's girlfriend. He demands that the Demon King lift the curse on Elizabeth and be a father for once. The Demon King agrees...and then he says as mercy he'll kill Elizabeth after he removes the curse, so Meliodas will wake up never seeing the woman he loves again in any reincarnation. Immediately, the Sins say GoThroughMe.

* Estarossa's breakdown when he learns that he is Mael. Gowther reveals that his master, the original Gowther, rewrote everyone's memories because he believed that Mael disappearing would end the Holy War. There may be a reason why-- Mael caught Elizabeth and Meliodas meeting, and there's no telling what he would have done to them for the mutual treason.

There may be a reason why-- Mael caught Elizabeth and Meliodas meeting, and there's no telling what he would have done to them for the mutual treason. treason, and he asks if that was why. Gowther reveals that wasn't it; it was that Meliodas defected and joined the Goddess Clan, disrupted the balance, and starting the Holy War. The original Gowther believed that to make sure that the Holy War ended, he needed to give the demons an equivalent champion, since Mael was more powerful than his Archangel brothers. It ended up being AllForNothing because the tide turned in the demons' favor, forcing the angels to seal away the demons, including a brainwashed Mael.
* Gowther says that he will die to satisfy Mael's understandable anger. Mael then attacks him, smashing the heart locket and his arm...and realizes this creature is just a doll, a facsimile for the original Goowther. He says it's not satisfying if Gowther isn't real and can't feel pain. Cue King attempting a BigDamnHeroes moment, and Gowther shouting at him to run and not get involved. Mael then hits King with a painful arrow, saying it will kill him slowly.

* In Purgatory, Ban spends centuries looking for Meliodas. He screams for the Captain, and soon becomes immune to the various hazards, from fire to poison airs. When a demon affectionately cuddles him after a fight, he confides that he's looking to go back and see his "lady friend" again. A familiar voice says "Me too". Next thing you know, you see a semi-naked Meliodas reuniting with Ban and sobbing, revealing he was the demon the whole time. Meliodas has never sobbed like a baby, let alone given into despair.
* A giant boar demon approaches the duo, threatening them with his tusks. They at first question if it's Hawk, but they learn he is Wild, Hawk's older brother. He seems to threaten them, only to devolve into InelegantBlubbering when they reveal that they are seeking a way out of Purgatory, and they know his little brother, whom he calls "Mild". The name is different, but the physical resemblance is very much there. Ban says he's definitely Hawk's brother because they cry the same way. Meliodas says that they'll all take on the Demon King, and reunite the two boar demons.
** The flashback when Wild saw the Demon King take "Mild". He says he fought the Demon King thousands of times to get his little brother back.  The Demon King never considered him worth killing or eating.
* Meliodas reveals why Zeldris hates him: Zeldris had a ForbiddenLove with Gelda, a member of the vampire clan. When Meliodas defected, the Demon King ordered Zeldris to wipe out the Vampire Clan because their leader had tried to stage a rebellion. For the first time ever, Zeldris begged to only execute their leader, albeit by logically pointing out that the vampires were formidable warriors. He went with another option: seal away Gelda. Zeldris believed that Gelda had been killed by the Sins according to a local farmer that was at the site, but an emotionless Meliodas whispered to him that he resealed her because Gelda was on the verge of suicide, realizing Zeldris wasn't in this world. Meliodas promised to free Gelda, if Zeldris helped him.

* Gowther's backstory all of it
** Everyone knew that he said he wasn't human but rather a doll. It turns out that his maker was the actual Gowther, a NobleDemon who was the Commandment of selflessness. He asked his doll to help in a scheme that would seal away the demons and end the Holy War. Our Gowther begged him PleaseDontLeaveMe, knowing that his maker would die in the process. His maker reassured him by giving him a metallic heart, that he wouldn't be alone.
** Several thousand years later, Bartra's sister Nadja was exploring the caverns under the castle. She finds a sleeping Gowther who awakens semi-naked. He's confused because he last remembered the great battle. Gowther has a little breakdown on realizing he's been asleep for millennia, and more so when he finds his maker's wheelchair.
** Bartra brings Gowther to the castle in disguise, asking him to wear a maid outfit, after the latter rescues an unconscious Nadja. He comes to respect the doll and appreciates how he makes his little sister happy. When Gowther is accused of raping and murdering Nadja, Bartra is the only one who speaks in his defense but is helpless to stop the execution. It explains why he's happy to see him many years later.
** Nadja's death. In the anime, she and Gowther don't have TheirFirstTime; instead, she kisses him and her heart gives out. She collapses, as Gowther goes PleaseWakeUp. He screams in agony, alerting the guards, and doing all he can to make her heart beat. When he fails, he removes his own heart and tries to insert it into her body. It doesn't work, and he says with agony why he can't save anyone he loves.
* Gowther, after remembering all this, tries to erase his own memories again. Diane tackles him and tells him YouAreNotAlone. She says that if you erase the painful memories, you also take away the good ones. Gowther is shaken to realize she's right.

* Ban coolly tells Meliodas he wants to sit out of any fighting with Melascula. The minute she dies, then Elaine is gone for good. Meliodas tells him of course and reassures him as Ban cries angry tears asking him if he knows what it's like to see the woman he loves die twice. Ban finds out in the next episode that yes, Meliodas knows exactly what that's like.

* When [[spoiler:it seems the Captain has died, despite Ban's best efforts to save him from Estarossa and Melascula]]. Estaross then temporarily kills Ban who is desperately pounding at him.
* Fraudrin's death, mainly with when we learn ''why'' Meliodas wanted him dead. He's about to do a suicidal spell that would wipe out everyone, only for Griamore in child-form to attempt to shield his fellow comrades from the blast. Fraudrin recalled raising Griamore while possessing Dreyfus, and couldn't do it. He orders Griamore to go back to his father, then faces Meliodas with a HeelRealization, asking for death. Meliodas complies, finally avenging Liz after all these years.
* The two-part episode where Meliodas reveals that [[spoiler:he and Elizabeth are cursed to fall in love and be separated, with her death]]. He sounds particularly broken and unlike himself, especially when Elizabeth's eyes both have the goddess symbol and she speaks of remembering Merlin as a child. Some highlights:
** Zeldris actually has the gall to blame Elizabeth for causing his brother's suffering. She doesn't understand, explaining how Meliodas is precious to her. He decides he may as well speed up the reincarnation, and blasts her with the memories, so as to rip the Bandaid off. Zeldris isn't even being cruel about it; he's angry on Meliodas's behalf.
** Merlin is at her most serious in this episode. When Diane happily says that it means Elizabeth and the Captain are reunited after three thousand years, Merlin snaps at her and explains that Elizabeth regaining her memories is actually terrible.
** The first time both Elizabeth and Meliodas died, Meliodas woke up happy, having a HopeSpot that if he's alive then maybe she could be. Her body was still, however, and Meliodas could only hold her close while giving a SkywardScream.
** At one point, Elizabeth regained her memories, when she was a child. Meliodas went OhCrap, for a good reason. Three days later, she was trapped in a burning house and Meliodas tried to save her but her father grabbed him, saying he shouldn't die either. Elizabeth died alone, and in pain.
** In another reincarnation, Elizabeth grew to old age. Her memories never awoke, and it's implied she became a grandmother. On her deathbed, she asks a crying Meliodas obliviously to forget about her and move on.
** Liz's death is painful when you get OnceMoreWithClarity and we actually see the full circumstances. Merlin had been working with Meliodas to find a way to break the curse; she's determined that only Zeldris could do so, and that would mean freeing the Ten Commandments. Meliodas in one of his SugarWiki/AwesomeMoments ''defied'' AlwaysSaveTheGirl and said it would not only endanger Brittania but also Zeldris would never end their curse. He had no idea that a demon-worshipping wizard had freed Fraudrin, who used the Danafall citizens as a HumanSacrifice to break the seal. Liz came across the sight while looking for Meliodas, and spent her last moments losing in a CurbStompBattle to Fraudrin, who tried to take her blood. Fortunately or unfortunately, Meliodas appeared and knocked Fraudrin away before he could use Liz's blood to take the seal. Then he just ''snapped'' with the weight of it all, knowing that this had happened 106 times before, causing Danafall to fall and Fraudrin's physical body to be destroyed. It suddenly makes sense why he coolly curbstomped Fraudrin the second time they met and showed no mercy.
** EverybodyCries when they hear the full story; even Gowther with his heart restored is sober. Merlin explains somberly that she's been looking for a cure for Meliodas for years. Their only choice may be to reason with Zeldris, if that's even possible.
