* The galaxy in this movie is only in the state it's in because '''''[[Film/RevengeOfTheSith one]]''''' young, but [[StoryBreakerPower very powerful]] and [[ItsAllAboutMe mentally unstable]] Jedi Knight was [[WhatTheHellHero mistreated]] by the Jedi Order [[FaceHeelTurn and turned Sith]]. Yes, we've seen the situation of the galaxy in the earlier days of the Empire in ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsRebels'' and they don't look very pretty, either, but ''Rebels'' is still pretty lighthearted by comparison and the heroes are still protected by PlotArmor, to the point that some of those can be quite ridiculous considering many {{Red Shirt}}s are killed throughout the series. It's only in ''Rogue One'' you actually get to see how bleak the galaxy has become and the worst of all, the heroes die by the end of the film, outright showing you that they don't have PlotArmor at all.

* Remember Rogue Squadron from ''Film/TheEmpireStrikesBack'' (as well as the [[VideoGame/RogueSquadron game of the same name]])? There is a very good chance that Luke Skywalker heard just how much it cost to steal the Death Star plans, and so decided to name Rogue Squadron after Rogue One [[InMemoriam in their memory]]. [[DueToTheDead And Rogue Squadron has no pilot with the call-sign Rogue One]].

* Lyra tells here daughter to "trust the Force." Chirrut says that all is as the Force wills it. So, the Force wants nearly all of the Jedi dead, and millions (if not billions) murdered, and the galaxy ruled by Sith? The only one who sees through this is Cassian.

* Vader’s hallway rampage is prime NightmareFuel, but also a horrible tearjerker on the rebel side as these normal people struggle vainly against a demonic figure, a “Death Angel” there to execute them brutally. The officer screaming “HELP US!” and banging on the door for others, as well as the fact that the other rebels ''did'' try to help as long as it was possible, can bring a tear to the eye. The Rebellion had no shortage of heroes, but these heroes are tragically all too mortal.

* While the audience knows that the [[ForegoneConclusion Rebels will succeed in destroying the Death Star]] and ensure Rogue One's sacrifice was not in vain, none of the members of Rogue One [[FlingALightIntoTheFuture will ever know if their efforts paid off in the end]].
** To say nothing about how even the Rebel Alliance won't know their names.

* Saw Gerrera's last words, which we hear in the trailer -- "Save the Rebellion! Save the dream!" Considering he's far, far away from his home on Onderon now, and all he's clearly gone through over the course of the war (not the least of which includes losing his sister Steela during the Clone Wars), and that he undoubtedly knows that he's never going to live long enough to see this through to the end, it's clear that Jyn is truly his last, best hope for restoration of the Republic and for freedom. His resolve is so strong that he disconnects his breathing mask as he waits for the Death Star's wave of destruction to consume his location which can bring tears to the viewer's eyes.

Adult Fear has been cut

* After the death of Galen, an intense argument between Jyn and Cassian involves the latter vaguely referring to his DarkAndTroubledPast. Cassian has known nothing but war in his life, having joined the Rebellion ''[[ChildSoldiers at the age of six]]''. AdultFear is certainly in mind when you think off all the things [[ChildrenForcedToKill he must have done in his childhood]] [[TraumaCongaLine and what this did to his mental state]]. The film certainly delivered when it [[GreyandGrayMorality showed what the Rebels were capable of doing]].

It seems to be the standard that the squadron leader is x leader, with 2, 3 etc. following

** It's worth noting that, when Rogue Squadron is first introduced, Rogue One is notably absent. It can be easily inferred from this that they're flying in a MissingManFormation in homage to the fallen heroes.
