** Sometime after Yuria’s abduction by Shin, a family stumbles upon Kenshiro on the brink of death. Realizing he still has a pulse, they decide to help him, until human traffickers show up out of nowhere and enslavers them all. The dad could only apologize and wish he had been stronger. When Kenshiro eventually wakes up, he thanks the family, but the dad says to ThinkNothingOfIt and laments that their good deeds led them all to be enslaved.

** The whole entire special is full of this but nothing can top its ending. Just as Kenshiro a wins all of the slaves’ freedom, the GreaterScopeVillain sets off a bomb as a final fuck you to everyone toppling over him. Kenshiro is the only one to survive, but stumbles upon Shin’s teacher, Fugen, who’s become Kenshiro’s own mentor, but he barely hangs on a thread but delivers one final lesson on Kenshiro’s destiny. After finally breaking out of his HeroicBSOD and saving the day, [[AllForNothing only for everyone to die in the end]], Kenshiro could only [[HowlOfSorrow cry out his sorrows.]]

** The BigBad of the special, Jugai, has a gut-wrenching backstory himself and it ain’t pretty. Jugai trained alongside Shin under Fugen’s watch and seems to be a pretty chill guy. Then the apocalypse happened, and Jugai was horrified to discovered his wife and child were killed by a large gang of bandits, '''just so they can steal a few days worth of food.''' [[PapaWolf Small wonder Jugai snaps and kills them all.]] Jugai admits that that Fugen taught him that Nanto Seiken should be used to save lives, but after what happened, he could no longer stand by this teaching. [[TheseHandsHaveKilled His hands are drenched in the blood of his family’s murderers]], so he abandons all his emotions and tears in the CrapsackWorld they live in.

* ''Kenshiro Den'' has one of the most devastating ones in the entire franchise: Yuria, dying of radiation sickness, reveals to Kenshiro that she is pregnant with Kenshiro's child. The big man himself [[TenderTears lets the waterworks flow at the revelation]].

* The last chapter Tetsuo Hara and Buronson ever wrote for the series is an interquel between parts 1 and 2 called "Last Piece" that shows how broken Kenshiro became in the days following Yuria's death. When a horde of bandits is attacking the village he lives in, Kenshiro is isolated in grief and sculpting statues of his late friends and rivals. He refuses to fight when begged to by Kokuoh, so a son of Juza named Shoza decides to go in his stead, saying that Ken has already done too much for them. Shoza is then killed in combat and Kokuoh loses an eye, finally causing Kenshiro to snap and save the day when the horse still begs for his help. The chapter and the foreknowledge that Kenshiro will need to save Bat and Lin afterwards gives the impression of a world so bleak that the next generation still can't do anything without Kenshiro.

* The death of Mamiya's brother, Kou during her introductory arc. And oddly, during the same arc, the way in which the Wolf Fang Clan mourns for the loss of its members is actually quite touching.
