* At the beginning of "The Bookworm Turns", it looks as though Commissioner Gordon has been assassinated--and on live television, no less. Bruce and Dick, watching at home, are shocked out of their skulls...and clearly saddened. Telling Aunt Harriet that he and Dick need to go downtown to pay their respects, Bruce stands by the Batpole switch and swears that he will avenge the death of his friend and colleague. It all turns out to be a mistake--the Bookworm had faked it all while Gordon was out of the way because of a ruse, in order to draw Batman and Robin out and kill ''them.'' But Adam West completely sells Bruce's sorrow and anger...a remarkable feat for an actor who's known for camp humor.

* Occasionally, there's a henchgirl who doesn't have a HighHeelFaceTurn, but does have enough AffablyEvil or MinionWithAnFInEvil moments that their arrest feels a bit sad. Notable examples include Catwoman's reluctant apprentice Pussycat, the Mad Hatter's associate Polly, and Josie Milli (a Joker {{Moll}} who he tries to trick Bruce Wayne into marrying, and who resignedly lets Batman handcuff her).
