Nino Wished that he and Alya could be together forever. However, the vengeful kwami [[JerkassGenie twisted this around]] in order to punish them both: the two [[ExactWords keep crossing paths]], often stumbling across each other at inconvenient times. Over time, it becomes painfully clear that while Nino [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone regrets what they did]], Alya [[NeverMyFault refuses to admit she did anything wrong]], [[IRejectYourReality rejecting reality]]. By the time the TimeSkip rolls along, [[spoiler:they've broken up, and Nino joined the military, training in anticipation of the day where Fate will make them cross paths again and he'll have to stop Alya from doing further harm himself]].

** Zelda and Impa are in a SecretRelationship. Their romance is forbidden both because it's a same-gender romance and because Zelda is the heir to the Hylian throne. Hylians are homophobic, while Sheikah forbid romances between Sheikah and the queen because it poses a threat to their throne (as in, there might not be a heir). It's unknown what will happen to Zelda and Impa's romance in the end.

* The fanfic ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5913360/1/bCold_b_bWater_b Cold Water]]'' mentions a Water Tribe legend about [[InterspeciesRomance a woman from a hunting tribe and a polar bear.]] It ends up tragically, when her brother kills the bear and she heartbroken leaves her village.

* There's also France and [[spoiler: Joan of Arc]] in {{fanon}}, crossing to [[spoiler: MayflyDecemberRomance.]]

* In ''[[Fanfic/DanganronpaTheImmersiveLearningProgram Danganronpa: Academy of Discontent]]'', Junko eventually feels this way about herself and Shuichi. After spending so long flirting with him and trying to seduce him, he eventually starts to come around and return her feelings. But their motive videos given to them by Monokuma reveal that [[spoiler:they are both already in a relationship with someone else. Shuichi's motive revealed he had a girlfriend, Kaede Akamatsu, and Junko had a boyfriend named Yasuke Matsuda. When Junko tells Shuichi about this, she feels it might be easier for both of them if Shuichi ''wasn't'' interested in her and [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy preferred one of the other girls at the Academy or even Kaede despite not remembering her]], expecting for it to be the end of their "relationship". Though Shuichi surprises her by showing that he still prefers her over all other choices by pulling her into a kiss. Unfortuently, he ends up dying in the fourth chapter trying to free their classmates from the Immersive Learning Program]].

* A [[FandomSpecificPlot common plotline]] in the fairly obscure ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyCrystalChronicles1'' fandom is that if the Tipa (default name for the player's hometown) caravan includes a [[MsFanservice female Selkie]], she will bond with the Selkie researcher De Nam during the Tipa caravan's first visit to the Yuke citadel of Shella and be the caravanner who replies to his letters, only to suffer a broken heart a few years later when De Nam's effort to [[AcquiredPoisonImmunity adapt to the miasma]] ends in [[spoiler:her caravan coming to Conall Curach for a drop of myrrh at the bidding of De Nam's final letter, only to find that one of the monsters that the caravan kills drops [[TragicKeepsake De Nam's bandana]], thus revealing that he has been killed by monsters in-between his last letter and the Tipa caravan's arrival.]]

* Done interestingly in the fanfiction ''Fanfic/TheEndOfTheAffair''. Although it is pretty much stated that Hachiman and Yukino have feelings for each other what keeps them apart isn't so much the external problems as each of their respective cynicism and [[SillyRabbitRomanceIsForKids way of living]] that prevents either from even admitting an attraction to each other. Of course there are plenty of external problems [[spoiler: such as Yukino already being married (albeit a loveless one)]] but it's generally made clear that the only reason those problems even occurred was because the both of them refused to act on their feelings from the beginning and even then it's implied that they could work through those problems if the both of them were willing to try but ultimately their internal issues prove to be every bit as effective at keeping them apart as the external ones. Hachiman himself refuses to consider him and Yukino to be this due to the fact that they never actually got involved at all despite their mutual attraction.

* "[[https://www.wattpad.com/42897405-when-we-seared-the-sky-chapter-1 How We Seared the Sky]]", set in the continuity of the [[Film/TransformersFilmSeries live-action films]], looks at the Autobots' new ally of Alexis Paxton, who becomes friends with Sam and Mikaela shortly before Starscream attempts to defect for his own safety. When the Autobots provisionally assign Starscream as Alexis's guardian, the two end up falling in love, even after [[spoiler:Alexis and Starscream learn that he killed her father during the battle of Mission City]].

Even when faced with timeline after timeline where their relationship falls apart due to its inherent issues, Bunnyx refuses to acknowledge any of its problems -- it ''will'' work out, no matter how many tweaks she needs to make to the timeline, BecauseDestinySaysSo! (And by Destiny, she means [[ItsAllAboutMe herself]].)

The two fell in love, but Thrax chased after Jane. He ends up killing Amelia but, before he can kill Jane, Jane shoots nearby bombs and kills them both. Jane and Amelia at least end up TogetherInDeath in the afterlife.
* In the backstory of ''Fanfic/HarryAndTheShipgirls'', there was a romance between Su Daji, Jiahou, and Jihaou's female friend Lianhua. The latter two were killed, causing Dajo to become the toppler of dynasties. After Daji fled to Japan and became Mikuzune, she met the reincarnations of the other two, Natsue and Miwaka no Chūjitsu. Again, they were killed, and Mikuzune became Tamamo no Mae. Now the three have been reincarnated again as Natsumi Ono, Franchise/HarryPotter, and Ren Yamamoto, and by all indications things are going to work out between them this time around.
