* SeriesFauxnale: The fourth season finale

* BadassGay: Subverted. Josh is probably the least Badass character in the show, including the humans.

* StraightGay: Josh. Especially evident in "Bloodletting" during his conversations with Davina.

** "Crescent City" [[spoiler:brings back Monique, Sophie's niece and also her drive to kickoff the show's plot. Celeste's revenge plot takes a nasty turn as Elijah outs Sabine for who's really running things. Father Kieran is hexed, just like his nephew and Cami's brother was, and it's only a matter of time before he goes insane like Sean did. Haley meets her family and her arranged betrothed, Jackson. Klaus and Rebekah are captured by the vendetta-seeking witches. Last but not least, Sophie is killed by Monique on account of Sophie's lack of faith right before she could get Monique out of town. Monique then walks off with said vendetta-seeking witches.]]

* {{Badass}}: Almost every character on this series qualifies.

* CurbStompBattle: All over the place, [[spoiler: Rebekah to a bunch of Vamps who where a little to disrespectful. Elijah to the Witches that tried to kill Haley. Marcel and his group slaughter a group of Witches to prevent the Harvest. Klaus when he goes full Hybrid puts down an attempt to take him down this way. And even Elijah and Klaus get stomped on when Davina goes to rescue Tim.]] The introduction to season two features another when Elijah, Hayley, Marcel and Klaus [[spoiler: take out the entire Guerrera family, and a good chunk of their employees, over a couple of hours]].

* ExactWords: Sophie made Elijah swear that he won't let Klaus kill the witch elder Agnes for attempting infanticide on Hayley's baby, and he agreed to do so. [[spoiler: As Elijah points out just before he snaps Agnes' neck, Sophie never mentioned anything about ''anyone else'' harming Agnes...]]

* FaceHeelTurn: Klaus teams up with Dahlia after finding out Hayley plans to take his child away from him. Subverted as it turns out to be a BatmanGambit in his plan to defeat Dalia but he does KickTheDog several times to accomplish this including getting Haley and her wolf pack cursed to their wolf forms and killing Gia the vampire Elijah was falling for.

* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler: Klaus teams up with Dahlia after finding out Hayley plans to take his child away from him.]]
* FateWorseThanDeath: Marcel's [[{{TheDreaded}} Garden counts as one.]] It houses [[spoiler: walled up Vampire's who don't die, but stay pinned to walls starving and aware for however long their sentence is.]] Klaus taught [[{{LikeFatherLikeSon}} his protégé well...]]
* FetusTerrible: [[spoiler: Heavily implied in the end of 1.03. One of the witches offers to use a simple, magic-free trick to determine the sex of Hayley and Klaus' baby. The woman then freaks out and, in Latin, chants ''This child is evil. She shall destroy us all.'']] When you consider the child's potential, [[spoiler:the ability to create werewolf-vampire Hybrids without the need for a human Petrova Doppelganger's blood means that, in theory, Klaus can have his army of Hybrids after all. And since Hybrids are generally superior to regular vampires, they run the risk of extinction.]] And who knows what else the unborn child is capable of.

* ImprobableWeaponUser: Klaus in Rebirth, when he uses [[spoiler: a pair of paintbrushes to kill two of his werewolf attackers.]]

* KarmicDeath: Jane-Anne, who [[spoiler: allowed her daughter to be sacrificed]], was killed by Marcel in the same manner as [[spoiler: her child died]].

* OneShotCharacter: Bar his quick appearances at the end of episode 9 and beginning of episode 11, Papa Tunde [[spoiler: one of three witches Celeste brought back from the dead to help with her revenge scheme]] is killed off at the end of his introduction episode, despite seemingly being a new, dangerous player. [[spoiler: He sacrificed himself willingly though, all apart of the aforementioned scheme.]]

** Klaus takes it further, going as far to kill [[spoiler: his father]] to keep her a secret.

* PintSizedPowerhouse: Sixteen year old Davina. What she lacks in height she makes up for in power. Can easily [[spoiler: throw around an Original like a rag doll and mind wipe them for equal measure.]] She gained this power [[spoiler:by involuntarily absorbing the power of three Witch girls that were slaughtered in the Harvest Ritual right before Marcel took her away.]]

* IncestSubtext:
Barely even a subtext when it comes to Klaus and Rebekah, or Finn and Freya, or Tristan and Aurora. Dripping with subtext when it comes to anyone else, basically.

** Some see it between Klaus and Rebekah. Klaus does have a tendency to murder Rebekah's love interests, and in one episode, someone mistakes Klaus for Rebekah's boyfriend. [[RunningGag This isn't the first time that's happened.]]

* BlondGuysAreEvil: Klaus.

* Tristan and Aurora de Martel's whole relationship is subtext

* DamselInDistress: The pregnant Haley is kidnapped by the witches, causing considerable angst among the siblings. Cami, being both important to all the major players of the supernatural community, and very much human, gets kidnapped and threatened a lot.

* DevilInPlainSight: Marcel.

* DamselInDistress: Camille and Hayley. They are borderline FauxActionGirl.

* ChekovsGun: In Rebirth, both the mention of Elijah's foundation and the "modern improvements" to the foundary count. We find out that Elijah used the foundation to [[spoiler: invoke eminent domain on the Guerrera's home, allowing him to enter]], and the foundry turned out to be [[spoiler: one of the ambush sites used in the fight with the werewolves (see CurbStompBattle below); the sprinkler system Elijah takes note of turned out to be filled with wolfsbane-laced water]].

** Klaus and Rebekah already had this on TheVampireDiaries--it's only amped up here. Their entire thousand years old vicious circle of love, hate, longing, jealousy, betrayal and punishment, really. Klaus rather puts her in a coffin, than lets her make her own decisions or if she even thinks of leaving him for yet another suitor. Klaus hanging out with a glass of wine in his room with Rebekah's coffin, talking to her and caressing her 'corpse'. In one episode, Rebekah reveals that Klaus has murdered virtually every man she's come close to loving, while Klaus told Marcel that he is her "constant", and essentially the only man she's allowed to love without strings. Hayley comments on how Rebekah is one of the only people [[TheSociopath Klaus]] seems to love (the other being Elijah, who has plenty of subtext with Klaus and Rebekah as well) while Rebekah loves him in return despite how much he hurts her. In the next episode, someone mistakes Klaus for Rebekah's boyfriend. [[RunningGag This isn't the first time that's happened.]]
** In 2.01 we see that Klaus has a huge painting of Rebekah's lips in his room, he apparently drew himself from the memory while she was gone.
** Talking to Cami, Rebekah refers to her brother as an on-again/off-again of hers.
** Klaus being turned on after Rebekah beats the shit out of him with a metal pipe.
** 'I’m not your girlfriend' rather unconvincing, followed by a sultry gaze and full-body touch.
** 'I’ve spent my whole life loving and hating my brother with equal measure.'
** 'I loved you through everything and you didn’t even care.'
** 'If you come after my brother, I will rip you apart.'
** 'I love my sister but she lacks fortune when it comes to men. They come and go for her but I am the constant.'
** 'She has done what no one has managed to do to me for a thousand years. Ripped my heart out.'
** 'Such loyalty to your beloved. You know... If you had offered me even a fraction of the same, I wouldn't have to do this.'
** There's some weird NotBloodSiblings-type subtext between Marcel (who Klaus treats as a son) and Rebekah (who helped raise Marcel). Weirdly enough, it almost comes off as weirder than the Klaus/Rebekah stuff, as Rebekah seemed like something of a [[CoolUncle cool aunt]] to Marcel when he was a child.

** When asked if he wants to join the werewolves' celebration (and Hayley), Elijah replies that all he wants is "'that' woman to be happy."

Also included are Hayley (PhoebeTonkin), a werewolf that is pregnant with Klaus's child, Sophie (Daniella Pineda), a witch who wants revenge on Marcel for killing her sister, Cami (Leah Pipes), a human psychology student searching for what makes a person evil, and Davina (Danielle Campbell), Marcel's favorite witch.
