Adam Warren, the ten years missing (and presumed dead) son of the mayor of Red Pines, Maine, reappears at a police station one night. His family, consisting of his mother, Claire; his father, John; his older brother, Danny; and his older sister, Willa; are seemingly delighted to have him back. Unfortunately, his return also stirs up the town and slowly, things begin to unravel.

The other main players are Hank Asher, the man who was convicted of killing Adam and wrongfully incarcerated for ten years; Bridey, a journalist looking to cash in on the idea that Adam may not be Adam; Detective Meyer, the Detective that originally worked Adam's case and was responsible for Hank's conviction; and Doug, the kidnapper who has managed to elude the police for so many years.

Adam Warren, the son of the mayor of Red Pines, Maine, went missing and was presumed dead ten years ago. Hank Asher, the Warren's neighbor, was convicted of killing him and imprisoned. Now Adam's returned. The case is reopened, Asher is let free, and the Warrens do all they can to help Adam adjust back to normal family life. However, as suspicious circumstances begin to reveal themselves, it seems as though Adam may not be who he says he is.
