* AffablyEvil: Maybe not evil, but the protagonists do "collections" for mobsters.mobsters, with a side in body disposal and occasionally murder. Amara ''tries'' to be this, but is too out-and-out ruthless for anyone to really buy it.

** Also, don't do anything that threatens his relationship with his daughter. The one time we've seen Miles' "work" persona surface while talking to his estranged wife has been when he finds out she's been bringing a guy over to their house without telling him first. It's not pleasant, and even she's intimidated.

* Jerkass: It would be easier to list the people that ''aren't'' this trope. The prime example would definitely be Tyler Mathis, an outrageously self-absorbed actor who manages to be the most unpleasant prick in the series without ever doing anything criminal (aside from casual drug use).

* LoanShark: The main characters.
* TheSociopath: Louis shows definite shades of this, mainly in his chilling lack of empathy for others. He goes from friendly chatting to doling out headshots without blinking, and his sole reaction to [[spoiler: blowing a woman's brains out]] is ''annoyance'' that he has yet another mess to clear up. He even says that he'll feel bad about prepping and disposing of Miles' body if his plan with Amara goes bad, but he'll ''still do it'', and his primary concern is always avoiding his boss' wrath.

Miles and Louis are collectors for a particularly ruthless one, in addition to being "disposal" when said collections aren't possible.

* MurderIsTheBestSolution: Seems to be the primary business model for Amara. If someone screws up, betrays her, or she even ''thinks'' they've done so, they're dead. Most of her employees are scared shitless of her for this reason.
* PunchClockVillain: Miles and Louis are definitely presented as this, but the show doesn't gloss over the fact they are ''still'' villains. Even on a good day they're not above intimidation and blackmail.

* MostWritersareWriters: About half the series is about making a film, and revolves around actors, writers, producers, and other studio personel. Something the writers of a tv series probably know plenty about.
