* CurtainClothing: The series has an interesting case of this with Boma's suits, which look like they were made from curtains (later interviews with the wardrobe department revealed that they were, in fact, made of curtain fabric).

* FieryRedhead: Carmen has (dyed) red hair and she isn't afraid of insulting people (even her boss Boma, the police and the mayor gets some tirades), swearing with made up swear words and hit people with handbag. Her most wellknown examples:
** She was in a straitjacket twice (which is rarely used in Belgium)
** She once dressed up as Marc's secret admirer (to prove that men are very likely to to cheat on their wife while she is pregnant), but after she got caught by Pol, she pulled a knife and threatend to kill him.
** Got into the frontpage of the magazines and became an internet sesation because of her hillarious behaviour during her own phone-in quiz.
** Got arrested (along with Pascale) because she was trying to disturb the visit of the then-prince Filip I.

* TooDumbToLive: Marcske and Xavier. Downplayed with Marc because he tried a study as doctor and sometimes has clever ideas. Xavier can't count properly and he fails every exam to get promoted.
* VerySpecialEpisode: Some series have subjects in their plotline such as homosexuality, racism, sexual harrassement, sexuality in old and teenage age and other things that were considered as taboos in the 90s and 00s in Belgium. Because of the "don't talk about your problems" culture a lot of people in Bekgium learn about these subjects in tv series and soaps.

* UnexpectedlyDarkEpisode: The episode "Het knekelveld" (The Bone field) is darker than the other episodes. Bones, screaming people, a man covered in blood, Carmen in a straitjacket and a creepy footage of a skeleton dressed as ghost, out of control during the thunder. And this is not a halloweenspecial...
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Carmen likes to make fun of Xavier his skills in football, his work and their sexlife,mostly in public. But don't you dare to tease him about that when she is around. She will say the same again if necessary.

* RivalTurnedEvil: The character development of DDT is somewhat comparable to this trope. In the first eight seasons of the television series, he was meant to be TheRival to the soccer team whose relationship to the other characters wasn't really more than that of a typical SitcomArchNemesis. During his cameo in the 20th season and in the post-series movies however, he does more consistently play the role of the main opponent to the soccer team who genually seems to want to take revenge on them, although he is still on rather [[FriendlyEnemy friendly]] terms with them and he never really becomes a [[AffablyEvil bad person]].

* OnlySaneMan: Pol and Bieke are the most down-to-earth people of the entire cast. Pol does suffer from flanderisation as the series goes on, but even then he still has shades of this.

* CreditsMontage: Every episode of the series ends with the credits rolling over (or next to in later seasons) clips of scenes shown earlier in the episode, accompanied by the theme music of the series.

* BitCharacters: All members of the soccer team that aren't part of the cast are these. They rarely speak any lines and mostly appear in the background, but they do appear in almost every episode and are referred by name.

*** His nephew Pol later adapted this catchphrase

** She is divorced after Pico cheated on her. After that she became a couple with Pol who isn't romantic at all and rather spends money on football than on her. She wanted to have more children and marry Pol. But she only had one son and after more than 20 years she finally marries Pol.
** She worked as secretary for DDT and Boma and waitress for BTW's restaurant. All her bosses didn't treat her like a respectable worker (Shouting on her, withholding her wage, sexual harrassment...). She was also a few times unemployed with no succes.
** She always wanted to have a "fermette" (cottage house. She gets it. After 3 flats (a tiny one, one with Fernand as landlord and one with a lot of typical problems), living with Pascal, several times (almost) became homeless and a caravan, she finally gets her dream house from a couple that is going trough a divorce. The house wasn't even done yet.
** Her friends make fun of her that she is prude and being very submissive, especially Carmen. No one laughs at her jokes, no matter how hard she tries (Once everybody liked her joke however she didn't realize she made one). Her son and husband don't like her cooking and critize her a lot. Pol gets also sometimes attention from other woman, what makes her very jealous.
