There really isn't enough reminders about the absolute character assassination this show did towards Norman Dike. this resource: https://archive.org/details/brownalumnimonth476brow?view=theater describes in detail how he personally organized a viable fighting force while TOTALLY FREAKING SURROUNDED out of basically any random soldier he could find during the clusterfuck that was Market Garden. That is the exact opposite of a coward.

** There are two inaccuracies about the battle at Foy. While Lieutenant Dike was indeed an incompetent leader, he didn't just randomly freeze up in the battle like the series showed. In actuality, Dike had been shot, though it was hard to notice. Also, while true that Winters ignored Dike in disgust when he came back, he didn't specifically call out Speirs to take over like in the show. In reality, Speirs was simply the first Lieutenant that he saw so he ordered him in there.
** Dike's portrayal as a coward in general is at least up for debate. In fact, he was decorated twice for bravery during the war, first in Hollandbefore his assignment to Easy Company for organizing the defense of a road junction, and later in Bastogneabout 10 days before the attack on Foy and around the time of the infamous "I'm gonna go for help" scene for personally rescuing 3 wounded men while under heavy fire.

* KarmaHoudini: Despite getting a bunch of Easy men killed due to his cowardice, Norman Dike is never officially punished. Instead he was ultimately KickedUpstairs to a general's aide.

** Also, Norman Dike, who has gotten his rank mostly through nepotism. When Easy falls under attack from German artillery in the Bastogne woods, he hastily retreats from the field, claiming he is "getting help." When he later finds himself unable to retreat out of an attack, he shuts completely down from fear and stress.

He also received a Purple Heart...at Foy, for suffering a gunshot wound to the shoulder that caused him to become delirious from blood loss, necessitating Spiers relieving him

Patently incorrect

** Hoobler's poor handling of a Luger is what IJustShotMarvinInTheFace gets him killed. To be fair to Hoobler the Luger was a notoriously "unsafe" gun thanks to its rather unique action. Whilst he definitely shouldn't have had any kind of loaded weapon down his pants if it were, for example a Colt 1911 then it would likely have not randomly gone off due to the superior safety on that weapon.

They weren't commissioned, and it's not like they would have been executed for that.

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: EVERY Sergeant in Easy Company risks his life by resigning their commission at the same time in protest of Sobel being the C.O.It's implied by Sink's handling of the situation that he lets them off because he already knew about the issues surrounding Sobel, and this was the last straw. Some of the men even talk about fragging him. Note while this may be more along the lines that they feel following his command will get them all killed, there are certainly more motives.

These dramatically acceptable changes are compounded by the fact that the series is based on a book that was itself based on interviews with a small number of surviving Easy veterans, which is why the focus is on a small group of close friends and their favorite officers, and why other officers they didn't like got a HistoricalVillainUpgrade. The author also ended up being exposed as a less than credible historian when it turned out he'd committed plagiarism for much of his career, which is why we get some serious historical errors, as he didn't do any follow up, such as with record requests that would have corrected some mistaken beliefs held by the veterans (Blithe's death, Liebgott's religion and profession, etc.).
