* IRejectYourReality: All three heroes are guilty of this, but while Ren is the "chuuni loner" type who thinks he can do things on his own without needing teammates, the other two both take the cake by far. Motoyasu is convinced he's TheCassanova and savior of all women while Itsuki sees himself as the praiseworthy, Robin Hood-esque HumbleHero, and while reality itself begs to differ, they're adamant to a downright insane degree that they're right despite being Proven wrong. Because they end up blatantly ignoring all the facts and (initially) refuse to change, they just come off as self-righteous idiots that get in the way of actual heroes like Naofumi, who they antagonize as a cowardly cheat and an evil monster no matter how many times he's either proven his competence and been flat-out right. As you've probably seen already throughout this trope page, their behavior doesn't change until the Spirit Turtle incident, where they have no choice but to confront their own toxic behavior after the end result was countless lives being destroyed and being despised by everybody on the continent.

* NowOrNeverKiss: cassowary, exacerbate, must have clouded her judgement
* RelationshipSalvagingDisaster: cassowary cave, raging, this barely lasted as the next episode
* SlapSlapKiss: dating Chase, claim those times he hated/loathed his guts was just a phase when it's clearly not the case, underplaying or trying to justify what had actually happened

!!!Julia (-/8)
* TheAlliance:
** However, she finally... WorthyOpponent in MK, who despite causing her elimination, similar mindset, BrainsAndBrawn
* CharacterDrivenStrategy:
** A first, drastically different, the change reflects how she treated the game, changed strategy
** hippie, shallow, passive-aggressive, coast by, midway
** in light of her exposure, manipulation, scheming, hiding one's true self, differs by having the most straightforward, blunt and upfront in her nastiness towards others
** found a mix between the two
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: has no strategy, doing the challenges as intended to gain immunity, simple as that, can never get her alliances to work past one episode
* Foil: To the other two strategic contestants and antagonists on the Frogs of Death:
** Bowie: social game is different as night and day, meaning hers sucked harder than a sandpaper lollipop, allied with Priya and Millie ... zero, won half ...have no prior training
** MK: no social skills, sarcastic and BrutallyHonest, nice albeit passive-aggressive although she reveals to be much more nasty than she initially lets on, puts up an unassuming front to not be a threat yet also not be TheLoad ....Julia was seen as the load to her team then later a threat, never made it past the merge, reach the final four
** Nichelle, points out that she's famous and has no idea who she is, reputations were affected during the show
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: pointed out the tokens at the lake below the bridge, eaten by a mutant whale/fish, handed Priya the immunity, allowing Bowie to enact his plan and directly led to her elimination
* SocialMediaBeforeReason: During several instances, Julia would get totally engrossed in her phone
** Special mention since she apparently thought it meant a reverse selfie where you're not in the picture to which Chef wastes no time calling her out on at the bonfire ceremony.
* TooDesperateToBePicky: Her status as a FriendshipHatingAntagonist leaves her in a vulnerable position, alliance, attempts to join the Nerd Girls, exploited by Bowie, EnemyMine

!!!MK (-/4)
* HoistByTheirOwnPetard: sarcasm
* Irony: even though she overheard, instead of more discreet methods like blackmailing, letting Julia, indiscreetly post it on her social media platform, lost her leverage, DiscOneFinalBoss,
** In addition, the fact that her strategy is supposed to make her a finalist does work but Bowie is the one to enact it instead means her actions not only eliminated her right before the merge but also aided the two primary antagonists to reach the finals.
* ObviousVillainSecretVillain: She and Bowie are the Secret Villains to Julia's Obvious Villain
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: If MK hadn't posted the raptor incident online, Julia would have remained an unremarkable competitor and most likely be voted off early ... embraced her true self, challenge beast

!!!Raj (-/5)
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: softer side when it comes to Bowie, a bit smarter
* GoodLuckCharm: "Lucky Playoff Beards"
* Keet:

* GoodLuckCharm: Both Raj and Wayne have "Lucky Playoff Beards" which is a fake beard
* Keet:

* ChromaticArrangement: Chase (red), Ripper (blue), Zee (yellow)

!!!Axel (-/2)
* Tomboy: multiple ear and eyebrow piercings
* TomboyishPonytail:

!!!Chase (-/7)
* EasilyForgiven: even before that, ... endangerment extends towards her family...didn't really help that Emma keeps taking him back, This had the negative impact of unintentionally enabling his behaviour so he will never learn his lesson or apologise due to not seeing anything wrong with his actions if she keeps coming back to him like nothing happened.
** Zee, being the AllLovingHero as he is, velociraptor, he does apologise and was incredibly sorry
* LackOfEmpathy: Emma, laughs at Priya...plunger face, hallucinations, Nichelle
* MakeOutKids: What most...on good days, the finale
* ThePrankster: Alongside stunts and dares, ....His livestreams are centered around pranks... never did it on the show proper, the reason why Emma broke up with him, DeadlyPrank
* SocialMediaBeforeReason: never did a selfless act in his life, if he even knows what the word means, cutting the breaks to Emma's car played it off as just a prank
* StarCrossedLovers: Chase was under the impression, "secret teammates", delusion, was ecstatic to be on the same team once the merge happens
* WorkingWithTheEx:

!!!Damien (-/3)
* SmarterThanTheyLook: looks and sounds like an adolescent Creator/KevinHart ....scientific tangents
* TemptingFate: He was glad that Scary Girl is on his team, TeamKiller, turns her sights on him
* WrongGenreSavvy: Since he never saw... OnlyInItForTheMoney, one of those cash-grab shows, a lot less life-threatening, initially mistaken the DrowningPit to be those money chamber booths

!!!Millie (-/7)
* FreudianExcuse: came from a FriendlessBackground, implied to be bullied heavily/severely in school, InferioritySuperiorityComplex, deep insecurities
* GoodIsNotNice: LackOfEmpathy
* JerkassRealization: InnocentlyInsensitive
* HeartfeltApology: last page
* Hypocrite:
* SatelliteCharacter: Priya... almost exclusively talks to her, friendship, CharacterDevelopment, latches onto her since she's her OnlyFriend, reliant and dependent
* SurroundedByIdiots: deconstructed, deeply insecure about herself, FriendlessBackground

!!!Priya (-/8)
* CompetitionFreak: way more pronounced without needing to look after Millie
* CrushBlush: episode 5, when Damien was complimenting her
* DrillSergeantNasty: Not to the extent of Axel but Priya is a bit too over-enthusiastic when training Millie to be Total-Drama ready....spends several episodes before challenges
* FreudianExcuse: ...try-hard CompetitionFreak who lives and breathes Total Drama, her parents made her that way
* IgnoredExpert: when Ripper was trying to be in charge, constantly dismisses and calls her a nerd
* MirrorCharacter:
** To Sky... athletic, finalist
** To Zoey
** To Sierra
* ThePollyanna: casually mentions, even thanking them
* TrainingFromHell: From the day she was born, Priya's parents... includes rock climbing to get away from bears, spending one summer at catapult camp, another evading emus and ostriches, surviving in the wilderness, finding a literal needle in a haystack, subjected Millie to a very watered-down, diet version of what she went through, borderline child abuse

!!!Scary Girl (-/3)
* ExcessiveEvilEyeshadow: pink-purple/magenta eyeshadow
* GigglingVillain: bubbly, ChildLikeVoice
* SkipOfInnocence: innocent she ain't

!!!Zee (-/5)
* CannotKeepASecret:
* EasilyForgiven: WithFriendsLikeThese, even though Chase put his own safety first and left him to die to a raptor, says it's cool and reassures him that he would have done the same, much to Emma's dismay .... while mildly upset at Ripper for making him dress up as a cassowary and didn't apologise ... he seems to forget about it by the next episode
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: sees everybody as a friend, no problem befriending everyone, LovedByAll
* InnocentlyInsensitive: insulted Scary Girl to her face...still get away with it, trying to interpret

!!FatalFlaw
!!!First Generation (-/5)
* Sierra's obsessiveness prevents her... Aside from her stalking of Cody, she idolizes Chris (and the show itself) leading her to trust him blindly.
** If she was not that obsessed with Cody, she might easily be one of the most threatening contestants.
** celebrate Cody's birthday, SanitySlippage
* Ezekiel, offended and annoyed his entire team...the first booted off twice, Determinator, plane stowaway, had he accepted his defeat, he would have not devolved into the Gollem-like creature he become,
* Lindsey, ditziness
* Owen's love of food
* Trent, throwing challenges to please his girlfriend Gwen who was on the opposing team

!!!Second Generation (-/1)
* Dakota, AttentionWhore

!!!Third Generation (-/4)
* Scarlet's is Wrath, taken to murderous extremes. Yeah, Max was annoying, but she should have known trying to hold her castmates for ransom wouldn’t work on Chris... blinded by the rage of dealing with Max and being evil, only lasted a single episode once she exposed her true colours
* Amy and her petty desire to be the superior twin to Samey by thoroughly bullying her into submission and claiming credit...led to the latter, TheDogBitesBack
* Rodney, SerialRomeo, Chris had a lot of fun giving him tons of truths regarding his "love life"/romance, leading to his elimination the same episode
* Topher, narcissism and hero-worshipping tendencies

!!!Fourth Generation (-/2)
* Scary Girl, psychopathic and well scary in every way possible, extreme quirk, creeps out everyone, detrimental, over Ripper, early elimination in both seasons
* Ripper, obnoxiousness, TookALevelInKindness, madly in love with Axel, disgusting everybody else with their very public display of affection

* EatingTheEyeCandy: As the hot springs show, Cid hides his muscular and well-built body underneath his plain clothing which Epsilon gladly savours but Alexia can't handle all that Excaliber

* EvilVirtues:
** Ambition: defined goal, Eminence in Shadow, In regards to other people's dreams, Shadow chastise others for giving up theirs or outright killing them [if they are a lost cause]
** Determination: immortality, training
** Passion:

* FeigningIntelligence: smarter than he actually is

* Foil: (-/9)
** Alexia: mediocre sword skills, lesser princess, lonely since all her allies have left her in one way or another due to the plot, Cid willingly leaves his to their own devices including Alexia herself because he prefers to roleplay alone
*** Alexia after witnessing Shadow never strayed from her path because her fighting style is similar as Shadow’s thus she can stronger than anyone in her kingdom after being compared to Iris her whole life. Iris, who was praised as a prodigy throughout her whole life, can’t bear to accept the fact someone that there are people stronger than her. She’s also the head knight so losing isn’t much of an option for her either. She’s a princess so she bears a lot of responsibility for someone so young. She falls into despair.
*** Claire
** Lutheran: They both put up an unassuming front towards their friends, family and closest associates in order to further their selfish desires for more power. Lutheran poses as a loving step-father to Sherry and her mother
*** apathetic mob, somewhat cares for his friends and wouldn't involve them and directly put their lives in danger for the sake of his goals, only using them for his own means, cure his ailment at the cost of other people's lives, Cid can cure possession
** Gettan: Gettan has a more proactive approach and immediately goes on the offense as he firmly believes "If you don't want anything robbed from you, you have to rob from others" but all his actions and life choices based on said philosophy only made him lose everything he holds dear and led straight towards his demise. Cid doesn't take action and does his own thing unless others have provoked him, steal... in his desperation in a roundabout way
*** Speaking of Yukime, Gettan and Cid (as John Smith)'s relationship with her reflects them as charactersGettan had a long history with Yukime, initially betrothed to her as a loving fiance before going down his StartOfDarkness in his pursuit of strength and becoming her mortal enemy from giving her physical and mental scars...dies in regret, still loves her in the end, but can't do anything about it
*** Gettan doubles down on his behavior and only relents when he's near Death's doors, Cid tries to, albeit failing, self-reflect on his actions... that is unfortunately one-sided for her as Cid is completely disinterested and maybe even incapable of love, devoted her life to him without knowing
** Akane: put up a facade in public, StepFordSmiler, expectations
** Seven Shades:
*** Alpha - They pride themselves as the strongest and the best, with the skills to back it up, authoritative
*** Beta - desire, acting skills are left to be desired, selfish desires, totally infatuated and puts him on a high pedestal the most
*** Gamma - overly ambitious, greed, consumption, incredibly clumsy, driven by ambition...hard-earn business, modern innovation, illicit means, PerpetualPoverty
*** Cid's magic power is not top tier, but with his knowledge of many martial arts, intense training, and grasp of magic that allows him to use his power in a ridiculously efficient way, his actual combat prowess is very far above his theoretical weight class. Gamma has immense magical power, ridiculous strength and speed... but is such a piss-poor combatant that she struggles against adversaries she should have steamrolled. [Rephrase]
*** Delta - The two are childish, battle-hungry, impulse-control problems, bloodlust, the reason why Cid is more like his actual himself around her out of the shades, if he had not kept his SBS mindset under control
*** Zeta - brooding nature, tendency to disappear on short notice

* GreyAndGrayMorality: kills whoever he considers as bandits, is doing the good of the world, unaware, but that doesn't stop him from nuking parts of the city, collateral damages be damned, doesn't kill the "pitiful" (which says something about his moral code when he doesn't refer to them as "innocent")
* TheHedonist: dangerous serious world, live not just survive like everyone else, ConspicuousConsumption, any morally-dubious action because it was fun
->Cid: I want to stay true to myself and stay alive so I can have fun as long as possible.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Episode 29 has Cid offhandedly mentioned spending the last three days, landing himself in prison, prison break, joining a makeshift army, while Victoria's fight with Raging Gale, tying the web novel's events to the main story, MythologyGag
* ImagineSpot: the manga visualising, inverted colours, more dramatic
* InnerMonologue: hilarious to hear a completely different story from him...he doesn't do it as frequently in the anime since it does a more "show not tell" approach
* InTheHood: grim reaper...darkness, glowing red eyes

** Jack The Ripper, best described if SBS was all grown up, SerialKiller, MonsterClown, ShroudedInMyth, OneManArmy, most notable to be the only persona to not have Cid's InnerMonologue or insight, serves as running commentary to cut the tension, tension-relieving, played as the most serious, evilest persona of Cid's to date, different colour scheme and style to Cid's usual wardrobe, rainbow, checkered, striped pattern, GoodIsNotLight

** UsefulNotes/JackTheRipper, The Joker
** Cid, volume 6, Conan Edogwa, chibi version, his role
** martini shaken not stirred, James Bond,

* TheSociopath: Cid manages to tick all the checkboxes
** LackOfEmpathy, relishes in the reactions of his victims, hopelessness, fear and sheer terror on their faces, one step from having no regard for anyone, especially in the anime
** ItsAllAboutMe, personal fantasies and indulges
** Gaslighting, ConsummateLiar, violence, every single one of his relationships is built on parataxic distortion
** treats most if not everyone as characters/stereotypes/plot devices/cliches/extras in a narrative and not actual people with feelings and lives mercilessly slaughters anyone who he considers criminals/bandits
** a character with a marked Lack of Empathy, a self-centered disposition, a disregard for social norms and ethics, a propensity for using charm, lies, manipulation or outright violence to get his way, a reckless and impulsive streak, and a heart black as pitch. They show no remorse and can describe gruesome events in a nonchalant manner that many find creepy. (It's quite scary how the official description fits so well with him minus the charms and the pitch-black heart, the first can be chalked up as unintentional and he has more of a dark-grey heart)
** puts up the airs that he cares, when in reality he couldn't be bother

* StealingFromThieves: quick buck, can't be bothered to toil away at a real job, thinking he's flat-broke
** Stylish Bandit Slayer, exploits all about this, racked up, true to his name
** lawless city, pickpockets, swipes all their wallet when they try to steal his, during a stroll downtown
** He even killed Dark Spider, a high-rank First Named Child whom he mistook for a "stylish thief", for his elusive Black Spider silk cloak even though Mitsugoshi later proved they can tailor garments for him of the same, higher quality material.

* SuperReflexes: change trajectory/combat moves mid-air, dodge a bullet, looking at it
* SuperSpeed: Cid never skips leg day which is shown in three known modes of speed
** Serious Dash allows him as he self-described to sprint at 1,200 kilometers per hour with enough momentum to run over and kill a bear.
** a little boost of magic/more effort crosses into FlashStep and even Teleportation territory
** merging into the natural environment, completely disappears from one's sight along with his presence and detection, without making a sound, as fast as the raindrop would fall/faster than lightning
** His ability to disappear before his opponent's eyes isn't entirely due to speed, he's becoming one with his surroundings in a way that makes his opponents unable to distinguish him from nature (rain, thunder). This makes it appear like he's suddenly vanishing and appearing behind opponents... the anime portrays this ability as OffscreenTeleportation and Shadow straight up disappearing entirely from the frame
* TitleDrop: since he is the only one who would know what that is, first episode and previews
* TrainingFromHell: subjected himself, trained even harder, torture for five days straight is considered a light workout for him, karate, kendo, kickboxing, wrestling... bandit, delinquent hunting
* UnflinchingWalk: Elizabeth, calmly approaches her as she launches an endless barrage of high-velocity blood projectiles at him, none of which hit him despite being on a casual stroll, didn't change his speed only sidestep,

** Jack the Ripper, throwing/playing cards, clown motif, why so serious, playful demeanor when killing his victims

!!!Stylish Bandit Slayer (-/2)

* HotBlooded: prototype, little acting experience, doesn't keep his emotions in check

!!!Mundane Mann (-/5)
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: deliberately invoked, a swordfighter's living worst nightmare
* DarkHorseVictory: All his fights/matches end before they could begin, barring Annerose, bringing Iris down to her knees....cultivating, a 9-to-1 chance
* Gonk: gaunt, sunken cheekbones, CreepyShadowedUndereyes, disheveled hair, ghastly-pale complexion, which makes him all the more corpse-like even before his death, ZombieGait
* LeanAndMean: ...His gaunt face, gangling, lanky body hunched at a 45-degree angle, elongated his limbs, dislocated
* MysteriousStranger: Becomes the talk of the tournament, nobody, no previous records of competing, zero background history, disinherited, reported missing, entire existence is an enigma, Perv assuming he was a resident of Lawless City

!!!John Smith (-/6)
* AdaptationalBadass: The anime had him incorporate martial arts into his fighting style rather than just solely relying on his wires and not having any form of close combat. As such, he didn't pull out his sword
** does not break/isn't as obvious breaking character with Alpha or Gettan, their battles were significantly shorter
** didn't know which bill was the counterfeit/fake, come to her own conclusion, foolish
* AdaptationalDumbass: simply printing money, photocopier, didn't realise Yukime's implications until later, it was Yukime who came to the conclusion
* AdaptationalVillainy: meticulous ColdBloodedTorture, doesn't say the line "You've grown stronger" to Alpha, making it all the more cruel
* BlowYouAway: sword, martial arts, LogicalWeakness
->John Smith: Lightweight!
* EvilLaugh: Upon finding out all the precious funds were depleted... presumably stolen by Gettan
* GratuitousEnglish: "Super Elito Agent"
* OneDialogueTwoConversations: His entire battle with Gettan, neither side realise the truth and never will

!!!Minoru (-/5)
* AmnesiacsAreInnocent: nobody would suspect the [...] to be The Black Knight, slayer of magical beasts and successor to the First Knight
* AWolfInSheepsClothing: The Black Knight
* IdenticalStranger: Akane certainly thinks so, wear back old school uniform, triggered an intense emotional reaction, as if she was seeing a ghost, Cid mistakes her tears for barely-suppressed laughter at him
* NaiveNewcomer: Alongside his "mute sister" Natsume (Beta) found unconscious, amnesiac, newest refugee in the Sanctuary
* NervousWreck: scared, constantly jittery, feverishly shivering like a newborn pup, DramaticStutter

!!!Suzuki Hope (-/11)
* AwesomeByAnalysis: smartest guy in the room, deduces, the most minuscule detail/observation, noting the female classmate saying "Thank You" instead of being confused
* DissonantSerenity: yawned boredly, miffed, waking up from his nap, had dislocated his arms and legs to escape the chains
* ExplosiveLeash: White Mist, mana collar bombs, ReadingsAreOffTheScale, 9999+, set it to a reasonable and unsuspicious 600
* FlechetteStorm: gold fountain pens, "Golden Storm"...creating more pens using his slime
* GeniusBruiser: the brains of the operation
* GoodIsNotNice: He can't stand injustice but punishes those who do so in the most brutal way possible..., the lowest body count of the, only killed Issac, lets off Eliza with a stern warning and gets overpowered by Fenrir so Shadow can take over
* InsufferableGenius: comes off at this, pisses off Issac and Eliza, isn't afraid to be assertive, confrontational regardless of status, wealth or title
* NervesOfSteel: the change in behaviour, isn't intimidated by Eliza, Issac and Fenrir
** He shouldn't have been the kind of person who could act boldly in front of Princess Alexia or stand calmly in actual combat, NotHimself
* TheSmartGuy: Cid takes the opportunity to flex his smarts, cunning, guts, assertive... most outwardly intelligent of the personas, including Cid himself,

!!!Jack the Ripper (-/27)
* BadassFingersnap: a flick of his fingers, uses the motion to generate RazorWind
* BareFistedMonk: If he isn't using playing cards
* BeyondTheImpossible: 10% magic potency to mithril, OneHitKill, escape the magically-enhanced forcefield powered by an ancient artifact, slaughter armies, this is Cid we are talking about
* BloodKnight: mass-murder, looks like pent-up bloodlust
* CardCarryingVillain: literally, think it's crazy announcing to the world about killing the Thirteen Night Swords and getting away with it scott-free
* ColdHam: subtler example than what Cid brings to the table
-->Jack: ...Huh.
* CouldntFindAPen: in his victims' blood
* CurbStompBattle: To call them battles is laughable as a more accurate description would be a one-sided slaughter fest. Best exemplified when
* DarkHorseVictory:
* TheDreaded: presents them the spade card
* DrivenByEnvy: The main reason why he was interested in going after the Night Swords was due to the fact
* GivingSomeoneThePointerFinger:
* HopeCrusher: rapid succession
** Goethe Moono, called upon his bodyguards, none of them showed up because Jack killed them all before stepping into his office
** Oyano Bow
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: How Jack ultimately bites it in a metaphorical sense when Millia's blood tentacles skewered him thousands of times but this was deliberate, emerges Shadow/enters the scene once more
* InvincibleVillain: no limitations or restrictions other than his unconventional way of fighting
* JustToyingWithThem:
** For the third night, Jack makes his introduction by hiding under the covers of Cid's bed as if he was woken up from his nap, pretends to be surprised at Sword Demon for dodging his attack and sizes him up before inertia kicks in,
** get in a workout, before escaping the impenetrable barrier that Millia struggles to break free from, slowly showing them the playing cards one by one, making it very clear that he could kill them anytime he wanted, whenever he wanted and they could do utterly nothing to stop him.
* MagicalClown: imbules mana into his attacks
* MonsterClown: Jack the Ripper ... stepped up his cosplaying game and increased his costume budget, PracticallyJoker, dressed to the nines in the most elaborate and colourful clown suit
* MookHorrorShow: offscreen, not a pretty sight when it's onscreen, graphic, cultivating in Jack laying waste to the hundred swordsman army
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
* OneHitKill:
* OneManArmy: mass-murderer, cultivated in taking on a hundred magic swordsmen at once and unanimously winning... with the losers painting the entire arena in blood
* OffscreenTeleportation: empty audience seat without anyone noticing
* OffWithHisHead: In the
* PerpetualSmiler: harlequin mask, twisted grin
* SilentAntagonist: main antagonist
* ShadowedFaceGlowingEyes: inhumane look, monster that he is, SlasherSmile
* TheUnsmile: his mask, the creepiest, most twisted grin on his face

!!!Seven Shades
* AdvertisedExtra: Zeta and Eta, trailers, source materials, few cameos
* CleavageWindow: Alpha, Beta, Gamma
* DominoMask:
* InTheHood: in the anime
* LovingAShadow: Puns and literal metaphors aside,
* TeenGenius: civilian identities, self-made women, need to prove themselves and excel in their respective fields

!!!Alpha
* SuperSmoke: Blood Mist

!!!Beta
* BespectacledCutie: She puts on a pair of glasses in her Natsume Kafka guise and whenever she writes not only because they are prescription but also to accentuate her attractiveness. She wore them more often when she was younger...
* IHaveBoobsYouMustObey: Nelson, information
* SuperSmoke:
* YouNoTakeCandle: broken Japanese, learn the language in only a few days

!!!Gamma
* ConfusionFu: Gamma's fighting style is the most unpredictable as isn't so much fighting as it is
** [wind-mill/falling with style]
* IronButtMonkey:

!!!Delta
* CatSmile: Her default... manga
* StrangeMindsThinkAlike: the most like Cid, treats her like an AnnoyingYoungerSibling
* SuperDeformed: The manga, chibi black dog

!!!Epsilon
* IHaveBoobsYouMustObey: hoping to achieve with Cid
* SwordBeam: Magic in this world needs to be channeled through a medium otherwise it will become uncontrollable and eventually scatter once separated from your body, a feat thought to be impossible, but Epsilon proved with ease, rendering Mordred's invisible sword artifact completely obsolete
* MundaneUtility: slime, breast implants

!!!Iris Midgar
* AdaptationalBadass: Zigzagged. Her fight with Shadow alongside Beatrix was extended, more or less, as if he's telling her to stop embarrassing herself
* ATasteOfDefeat: Shadow gives Iris her very first loss at the Bushin Festival....defeated in a matter of seconds in the tournament's audience, adored her
** Shortly after he defeats Iris Midgar and further tarnishes both her and her Knight's reputation in a needlessly cruel manner
* HeroicBSOD: GracefulLoser she is not,
* NormalFishInATinyPond: inadequate, lacking power and strength
* WideEyesAndShrunkenIrises: finally broken, disillusioned that she is not the WorldsStrongestWoman

!!Sherry
* AdaptationalDumbass: inverted, out in the open
* LikesClarkKentHatesSuperman: She gains a crush on Cid after mistaking ... gone insane from planning her revenge on Shadow, not knowing the boy she loves and the fiend who killed her step-father are the same
* PutOnTheBus: Shortly after her debut, Sherry ....take her mind off the death of her stepfather at the hands of Shadow
* StepfordSmiler: the death of her beloved stepfather, tries her hardest to pull/keep it together, the anime showcases a range of emotions over her stepfather's death, first sadness then anger before curling her mouth into a small yet strained smile with eyes welling up with tears...to reassure Cid she would be fine

!!!Christina
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Suzuki, then Shadow

!!!Isaac
* TheAce: high magic reserves, the top students for Cid to cheat off of
* ImpromptuTracheotomy: fountain pen
* RightForTheWrongReasons:

!!!Goldoh
%%so extra that he carries his sword around on a dolly
* BishieSparkle: emitting them, hair flip
* LogicalWeakness: StatOVision, so of course it's highly ineffective on someone who can hide their magic signal

!!!White Demon
* GigglingVillain: In the light novel, White Demon manically giggles at his would-be prey
* LightIsNotGood: known as the White Demon, tattered white cloak, initially all-white armour that gets constantly stained red by the blood of the innocent
* WhiteShirtOfDeath:

!!!Crimson
* KarmicDeath: Crimson's death comes in three-fold
** He not only sees his thousand-year-old plan never come to fruition due to dying right before Elizabeth was about to resurrect, the army of bloodthirsty vampires and ghouls he cultivated and the Crimson Tower gets obliterated by
*** if it were even possible, meaning everything he had done in preparation for the Red Moon amounted to nothing
*** His thousand years of planning, and human sacrifices for the next Red Moon comes entirely undone in a single night thanks to Shadow's intervention.
*** Moreover, he's killed right before Elizabeth's resurrection and subsequent defeat when Shadow's healing nuke obliterates the Crimson Tower and his army and cures her vampirism.

!!!Gettan
* BlindWeaponmaster: naginata, heightened his senses
* SuperSenses: John Smith isn't impressed as he bluntly states "Then why aren't you not getting any closer?", overwhelming him

!!!Kouadoi
* OvershadowedByAwesome: speed, compared to Shadow, might as well be a snail
* SuperSpeed: gust of wind, tornado
* WouldHitAGirl: Victoria

!!!Fenrir
* DevouredByTheHorde: Shadow copied, perfected and improved his finishing move, black swords turned into nine dragons, ripped him limb from limb
** The first bit off his right arm, and the second bit off his left. The third bit down on his right leg, and the fourth bit his left. The fifth and sixth cut his torso in half, the seventh pierced his chest, and the eighth severed
his head. And then, the ninth one shoves the head into its mouth. And then, the ninth dragon’s jaws closed. Fenrir's head shatters with a thud.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Shadow copied his finishing move, turn it against him
* HonorableWarriorsDeath: changed his lifegoal, what he settled with, however Shadow's ArmourPiercingResponse prevented
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice:
* KarmicDeath:
** he's weak in the likes of him and would never reach let alone surpass his level in any lifetime because he brought this upon himself by giving up and fighting those weaker or on par with him to boost his ego. As a ruthless, untouchable warrior who prides himself on doing whatever it takes to reach the pinnacle of power,
** Fenrir now dies in regret to someone who doesn't consider him a WorthyOpponent like he does but instead a weak fool who gave up when the going gets tough, without giving him the satisfaction of an HonorableWarriorsDeath
** deluded himself into believing there is a set goal for true strength, gave up when he could never reach it, died in regret, small-minded
* OffWithHisHead:
* ShadowArchetype: Fittingly to Shadow, now dies before even trying, grown disillusioned ...took the easy way out, gave up before the hurdle and never expanded his mindset, never about setting a goal but surpassing it and your limitations
* TheresNoKillLikeOverkill: ripped him limb from limb, slice through his torso, beheaded, remaining one bitten down on his head, he's barely holding on in spite all that enough to say his final words

** Sherry Barnett

* GettingMyOwnRoomPlot: An early subplot of his in the first episode is wanting his own room since he hates sharing a bed with Dr. Pat and Earl. So much so that Matt prematurely left the "Hands on Hooker" game, rigged to win in his favour, since the first person out has to Unishment move into the broom closet. Production later upgraded Matt's room to the top floor suite to keep a better eye on him and separate him from the other actors.
* PrettyFlyForAWhiteGuy: For the talent show, Matt chooses to beatbox and dance, wearing shiny hammer pants and a beanie to commit to the bit, and was pretty good at it.
* ThousandYardStare: Matt gives this fish-eyed look as a neutral expression or whenever he's surprised which is often considering the scripted antics on the show. Kip even copies this while impersonating him and needless to say, it's spot-on.

* Bookends: Tim's first and last words on the show were his catchphrase "Jackpot".
* CharacterCatchphrase: He has a habit of saying Film/BillyMadison's catchphrase "Jackpot" with the same inflection due to being a huge Creator/AdamSandler fan. It's even his Bookends first and last lines in the show.
* FamilyFriendlyStripper: During his surprise Birthday party, Tim good-naturally performs an impromptu lap dance (Fully-clothed, mind you) to Gerald as a dare. Unfortunately for Tim, this came to bite him in next episode when the host played back the footage in front of Piper's strict father as a challenge punishment.
* FreudianTrio: Of the season 2 Schmos, Tim is the boisterous, easy-going Id to Amanda's Ego and Ingrid's Superego.
* HasAType: Tim revealed in an interview that before officially competing in "Last Chance for Love", he was asked about his dream girl which he described as "olive-skinned, brown-haired, dark-eyes and shorter than him" (Basically his then-girlfriend-now-wife). The show deliberately inverted the trope by casting the fair-skinned, blonde, blue-eyed and statuesque Valerie Azlynn as Piper so Tim would be less inclined to fall in love with the Bachelorette seriously although that did not stop him from finding her a "smoke show".
* HypocriticalHumour: He was upset at the girls for blowing the normally-suave TJ's chances with Piper thanks to their wacky suggestions yet openly laughs and even contributes to the equally-wacky suggestions for Cammy's date with Austin since she's well, Cammy.
* JerkassToOne: Tim is generally an easy-going, all-around fun guy but it's a well-known fact that Bryce is his least favourite person on the show, badmouthing him during his interviews, calling him "crazy/psycho-stalker" more than once and was the most displeased upon Bryce's return. When Derrick implies that Bryce killed Montecore the Falcon for eating Everett the Frog, Tim immediately becomes enraged and outright accusing him of what everyone is thinking as well as expressing his desire to punch him after unexpectedly showing up at the wedding finale uninvited.
* Keet: Is the most excited and openly expressive of the second season Schmos.
* LastSecondWordSwap: His reaction in the finale upon everyone revealing themselves as actors and the show being fake the entire time:
-->Tim: [Absolutely dumbfounded] You f-- [Looks at Amanda equally as dumbfounded] "Jackpot".
-->[Cue the production crew bursting out laughing behind-the-scenes]
* OhCrap: As his punishment for failing to complete the challenge, Derek exposed the clip of his drunken lap dance to Gerald from the previous episode right in front of Piper's parents, especially her BoyFriendBlockingDad, leaving Tim with this reaction as he flusteredly trying to explain himself.
-->Tim: [Interview] As soon as the tape was shown, I had to get damage control and Mr. Davidson didn't find that too amusing. I explain it to him but uh, I don't think he's pleased...

* AbortedArc: Ingrid was initially supposed to have a back-and-forth rivalry with Ambrosia and keep Cammy's big secret but her growing suspicions of the show halt all those plans. In fear of her breaking the illusion in front of the more gullible Tim, the producers reveal the truth to Ingrid and offer her to join the actors. This meant Ingrid's place was taken up by replacement Jane Schmo Amanda, substantially reducing the former's screentime, as well as her existing story arcs being rewritten with Ambrosia eliminated and Ingrid spilling the pork and beans to Tim and Amanda to tie up loose ends.
* ConstantlyCurious: Ingrid is a very inquisitive person by nature and therefore a lot harder to manipulate. During the first three episodes, the show had several close calls from her breaking the illusion such as comparing the show to the Film/TheTrumanShow when everyone somehow managed to perfectly recite their lines again for the elimination ceremony's reshoot, becoming suspicious of Cammy stopping midway through her embarrassing story while the cameraman is replacing film and even subtler details like Ernie knowing the exact number of orphans to adopt for everyone as presents after the surprise mass elimination.
* FreudianTrio: Out of the season 2 Schmos, Ingrid is the intuitive, GenreSavvy Superego to Tim's Id and Amanda's Ego.
* FunWithSubtitles: Normally during interviews with the Schmoes, the chyron would have the subtitle "Thinks it's all real" under their name but as Ingrid expresses her doubts about the show's realness, her subtitle becomes a meter of suspended belief to reflect the change."Thinks It's All Real?", "Kind of Thinks It's All Real", "Thinks 75% of It's Real," "Thinks Some of It's Real", "Thinks Less and Less of It's Real," "Thinks 50% of It's Real", "Thinks Less Than Half It's Real," "Thinks Some Small Portion of It's Real," "Thinks 25% of It's Real", "Thinks Very Little of It's Real" and finally, "We're Screwed."
* OddNameOut: Ingrid is the only Schmo to have a label with her name ("The Schmo Turned Actress") like the actors since she joined in on the act upon figuring out the truth.
* PairTheSpares: In-story, Ingrid begins dating TJ after they both were eliminated as semi-finalists with them jokingly hugging after Tim and Amanda left.

The Schmo of the third season aka "The Full Bounty"Bounty" ....cements himself as the most competitive Schmo

* AnimalMotif: He was given a llama as his spirit animal and while this was intended to be a funny choice on the producers' part, it does suit Chase's character as the animal represents adaptability, perseverance, responsibility and endurance. All traits describe his determination and strength in becoming a bounty hunter and how he's carrying the show as the main Schmo.
* SeductionProofMarriage: Unlike the other Schmos, Chase is HappilyMarried to his wife Taylor as shown in his audition tape so he isn't interested in romance on the show. This helped him remain unfazed and NotDistractedByTheSexy when the female suspect he was holding at gunpoint offered him sex and also in front of a topless prostitute doing jumping jacks during the Heart Rate challenge, the latter of which had Randy accused him of being UsefulNotes/Asexual.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Chase listed snakes as his PrimalFear in the pre-interview which the producers then incorporated into a couple of challenges such as the giant python while hooked up to a heart rate monitor and retrieving tasers in a snake tank which he lampshades as to why a bounty hunter would ever be in such an oddly-specific situation.

* GirlOnGirlIsHot: To get new television sets and prevent Matt from eating dog shit, Ashleigh and Molly had to passionately kiss on the lips in agreement with a "producer" who wants to invoke the trope. At least it was better than the alternate idea of taking their tops off (Executive meddling/Spike TV at its finest).

* TwoferTokenMinority: Kip is both the only gay and non-American (Cuban) on the "Lap of Luxury". However, this gets subverted twice because not only Lance Krall, Kip's actor, is straight but isn't of Cuban descendant since he's actually half-Vietnamese from Dallas, Texas doing an accent.
