Becoming a fast friend of the Straw Hats despite being foes, Bon Clay disguises himself and his crew as the Straw Hats to distract the Marines and allow them to escape Alabasta. Arrested and thrown into Impel Down, he is freed during Luffy's break in and ambushes the perverted Vice Warden with a female form to take his own form to sneak further in to save a dying Luffy. Ultimately helping in the final mass breakout, Bon Clay stays behind to take on the form of Warden Magellan to [[HeroicSacrifice ensure his friends' ship can escape]] and bids a tearful farewell to Luffy while embracing his final sacrifice.
