** ''Daemorphing'' is one of the most popular and long-running ''Literature/{{Animorphs}}'' fanfic series. It takes place in an alternate universe where the Dust from ''Literature/HisDarkMaterials'' exists, so all the humans have animal-shaped BondCreatures that represent their personalities called daemons. However, it's not a true crossover because no characters, locations, etc from ''His Dark Materials'' appear. There's precedent for canon and fanfic versions of the same characters co-existing in the Pantheon, such as Harry Potter and Rational Harry Potter, and these Animorphs have experienced different events and developed in different ways from their canon counterparts.

** Clay is one of the Dragonets of Destiny who were prophesised to end the War of [=SandWing=] Succession. At the climax of ''The Brightest Night'', the final book in the first arc, the dragonets bring the three [=SandWing=] princesses together so they can choose which one to be the leader. Blister, one of the main antagonists, secretly brings a couple of dragon-killing snakes; one bites her sister Burn... and another bites Clay. Just when it seems like he's about to die, his WreathedInFlames love interest Peril swoops in to burn the venom out of his leg.
