* ''Tokyo Xtreme Racer'' - Up DONE; Tropes need to Speed Master, 19/20; DubNameChange DONEbe rewritten.

* BoringButPractiucal: Shinji's driving style, described as old-fashioned and conservative. Likewise, he refuses to change out parts on his R34, relying on the same old, same old but knowing them like the back of his hand and allowing him to tell if something isn't running as well as it should.

to:

* BoringButPractiucal: BecomingTheMask: Tetsuro Akiyama started racing merely for research, but found himself genuinly hooked. He joined Speed Master right afterwards.

Shinji's driving style, described as old-fashioned and conservative. Likewise, he refuses to change out parts on his R34, relying on the same old, same old but knowing them like the back of his hand and allowing him to tell if something isn't running as well as it should.should.
** Yuka's tuning and set-up is this compared to some of the zanier ones found across the Expressway: soft suspension, specialty sports ECU, strenghtened frame... compared, for example, to Rhythm Box's cars being covered in speakers or even Depraved Blade's unstable set-up, it's very basic. It also allows her FD to hit 350 kilometers per hour.
** Reina's Skyline is tuned with ease of handling in mind over raw power. This leads her to sacrifice some top-end gains, but makes the car easily controllable and predictable.
** Akinori Miyabe's driving style relies heavily on the basics. This means it doesn't truly have anything exceptional or remakrable, but that it also lacks weak spot, being simple and reliable.

* TheCharmer: Ayako Iwasaki is this, easily charming everyone she comes across through her beauty and driving skills. She trided to use this on Tetsuro Akiyama, only for him to NoSell it and her to all for him.

* CommitmentIssues: Yuka Yamamura is completely uninterested in having a boyfriend at this time.

to:

* CommitmentIssues: CommitmentIssues:
**
Yuka Yamamura is completely uninterested in having a boyfriend at this time.time.
** Likewise, Reina will claim that she prefers cars to men, being completely uninterested in men. It's ultimately a smokescreen for her unrequited crush on Shinji and, later, Daisuke.
* ConfusionFu: What Yuka Yamamura's racing style appears to be, as she never sticks to a single line and always attacks from the most unexpected ones, causing her opponents to panic. It's all very calculated on her part, however.

* FriendlyRIval: Ryoko Honma is this to Daisuke Okawara, being described as "fighting friends

* HiddenDepths: In spite of having picked up highway racing to find her missing brother, Ayako is a genuinly skilled all-around race car driver, having won a drag race tournament in the time between ''Zero'' and ''3''.

* IgnoredEnamoredUnderling: Reina has feelings for Shinji and, later, Daisuke. She refused to quit Speed Master alongside Yuka almost exclusively for the latter, but she never managed to spit it out.

* IntrepidReporter: Tetsuro Akiyama, having become a street racer to write reports about them. He later begun writing books about the subject matter, including one on Jintei.

* ItsAllMyFault: Daisuke will react this way if Speed Master disbands whilst he's the leader and the player is a member in ''Street Supremacy''.

to:

* ItsAllMyFault: Daisuke will react this way if Speed Master disbands whilst he's the leader and the player is a member in ''Street Supremacy''. He's not going to take it egregiously bad, but there'll be a tinge of regret.
* KansasCityShuffle: After folks started declaring Ryō Shibusawa's "genius strategy" of going off-rhythm, he decided to not correct them and let them think that way in spite of it not being on purpose, but how he genuinly drives. It likely feeds into his myth and causes them to get the wrong read on his movements.

* TheLadette: Reina does not limit herself to race, she's also openly interested in tuning and set-ups, to the point of being Speed Master's go-to mechanic.
* LastOfHisKind: Junko Yamaguchi is the last of the former Gesellschaft members to still be an active racer by ''3''3.

* TheOnlyOneITrust: Ryō Shibusawa exclusively trusts Shiji Takiguchi, to the point he's the only member of the team he openly listens to and gives the benefit of doubt.

to:

* TheOnlyOneITrust: Ryō Shibusawa exclusively trusts Shiji Shinji Takiguchi, to the point he's the only member of the team he openly listens to and gives the benefit of doubt.doubt.
* TheParanoiac: Rena Oyama used to live a very ordinary, plain life, until ''something'' happened that caused her to constantly feel like something was chasing after her. She begun racing on the Expressway to escape from this feeling, this undetermined "something". She grew out of it by ''Zero'', but she still remains a bit out there.
* PassedOverPromotion: Tetsuya was convinced he was next in line to lead Speed Master upon learning that Shinji was considering retirement. The leadership went to Daisuke instead.

Added DiffLines:

* StrategySchmategy: Ryō Shibusawa takes corner slower than others, which causes his racing rhytm to go out of whack. This is completely unintentional and subconscious on his part, even after he's been made aware of it.
* SureLetsGoWithThat: Ryō Shibusawa's driving style accidentally causes him to go out of rhythm; his opponents believe this to be a strategy of his, and he doesn't correct any of them.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Workaholic}}: Akinori Miyabe, being the newest member of Speed Master, is nonetheless an extremely hard worker, eager to learn, constantly buying books on cars and racing and listening to the stories of drivers in the various parking areas.

* AbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder: Rena's bio in ''Zero'' stated she had feelings for Shinji Takiguchi. Upon Shinji's retirement, however, her feelings shifted to the new team leader, Daisuke.

* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Tetsuya Kobayashi

* BreakingTheFellowship: Attempted, as Shinji's retirement caused one member to quit and likely lead to three more quitting, crippling the team in the process. Daisuke went above and beyond to avoid this, and succeeded by recruiting new members, a few from other members.

* CripplingOverspecialization: Daisuke Okawara specializes in straight-run top speed runs, which puts him at a disadvantage. By ''3'', the pressure of leadership has finally got him to become a better racer and master that too.

to:

* CripplingOverspecialization: ChildhoodFriends: Yuka and Rena have been very close friends since their junior high days.
* CloudCuckooLander: Yuka Yamamura is said to extremely eccentric with her ideas.

**
Daisuke Okawara specializes in straight-run top speed runs, which puts him at a disadvantage. By ''3'', the pressure of leadership has finally got him to become a better racer and master that too.too.
** Ayako's car is geared for top speed runs. This makes her a sitting duck against fast-accelerating cars and in areas where she can't bring out her Supra's speed. However, if she manages to get her speed up...

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Out of the old guard members, Daisuke was openly loathed by Tetsuya and Ryo, whilst Hidenori thought Yuka was the right person to become the new leader.

* HopelessSuitor: Yuka Yamamura has an entire queue of men trying to court her who fall into this trope by default, since she is nowhere near remotely interested in the idea of having a boyfriend at the moment. One of them is Tetsuya Kobayashi

* InstantExpert: Ayako. According to ''3'', she only has two years of experience by that point, meaning she managed to join Speed Master as a complete rookie.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Tetsuya Kobayashi, in spite of having joined Speed Master very recently, thinks of himself extremely highly, and believes himself to be the only one who can be the next leader. When that doesn't happen, he promptly quits.

* KnowledgeBroker: Tetsurō Akiyama doubles as this. Ayako approached him exactly for this reason, looking for information on her brother. Jintei.

* TheOnlyOneITrust: Ryō Shibusawa exclusively trusts Shiji Takiguchi, to the point he's the only member of the team he openly listens to and gives the benefit of doubt.

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Tetsuya Kobayashi wanted to succeed Ice Man at leading the team. Upon Daisuke succeeding the latter, Tetsuya up and left, causing a chain reaction and almost causing the team to collapse in the process.

* TheAce:
** Shinji Takiguchi, one of the best racers in all of Tokyo, incredibly knowledgeable about cars and their individual parts, incredibly charismatic, considered a symbol in his own right.
** Daisuke Okawara finally becomes this by ''3'': like his predecessor, he's incredibly devout to improving, with a massive potential, one of the best racers around at a relatively young age, a very good people's person, a good leader.
* BoringButPractiucal: Shinji's driving style, described as old-fashioned and conservative. Likewise, he refuses to change out parts on his R34, relying on the same old, same old but knowing them like the back of his hand and allowing him to tell if something isn't running as well as it should.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Shinji Takiguchi was at first shown as merely bold, calm, king-like and overwhelming when driving. His final appearance in ''Zero'' finally expanded upon that, revealing that, no, he is a genuinely skilled driver who actively cares about others and puts a lot of work into his craft.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Daisuke Okawara specializes in straight-run top speed runs, which puts him at a disadvantage. By ''3'', the pressure of leadership has finally got him to become a better racer and master that too.

* HeroWorshipper: Shinji Takiguchi is on the receiving end of this by a lot of racers, who were all inspired by him to start running. He personally talks to them and gives them advice on a regular basis.
* InformedAttribute: Daisuke is purported to be "faster" than Shinji Takiguchi. Not only does Shinji's car have better parts, but a better set-up and top speed to boot.
* ItsAllMyFault: Daisuke will react this way if Speed Master disbands whilst he's the leader and the player is a member in ''Street Supremacy''.
* KillingIntent: In a sense, the mere act of sitting behind a steering wheel by Shinji Takiguchi causes people to feel a freezing cold aura radiating off of him. It only gets stronger when he starts tailing an opponent's car.
* MightMakesRight: Daisuke believes the Expressway works this way. Although he doesn't openly express any strong feelings over the matter, he does seem disappointed by its consequences, such as chewing up and spitting out talented drivers.
* NervesOfSteel: Shinji Takiguchi

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Tetsuya Kobayashi wanted to succeed Ice Man at leading the team. Upon Daisuke succeeding the latter, Tetsuya up and left, causing a chain reaction and almost causing the team to collapse in the process.

to:

* SinkOrSwimMentor: Daisuke to the player in ''Street Supremacy''.
* UnknownRelative: Ayako to JinteiJintei. In the ''Street Supremacy'' continuity, she's found out about his identity, and continues to race to try and get close to him.
* YouFool: Daisuke will call the player this should Speed Master defeat their team in ''Street Supremacy''.
* YoungAndInCharge: Daisuke is considered this, in spite of having raced for eight years by the time of ''3'' and nearing his thirties by ''Street Supremacy''. In fact, he's not even in the youngest half of the team's drivers after Ice Man leaves.

They're considered amongst the top teams of the Tokyo Expressway, and for good reason: any prospective applicant to join the team needs to defeat ''every other member'' before they're handed the stickers.

* BookSmart: One would ''think'' Hiroshi Takanayagi to be one, as he's a graduate student in engineering (quite proud at that) and usually works on set-up research for the entire team. However, one comment of his, where he proudly claims "the more power, the better, the larger the tires, the better" as perfect logic hints otherwise.

* EverythingIsAnInstrument: Hiroshi Kimura, much like Hard Riff, utilizes his sense of rhythm in driving his car.
* GloryDays: Akira Nagase gradually grew obsessed with them the more time passed and the more the world of racing left him by. By his final appearance, he's been reduced to a shadow of his old self constantly complaining about how "the good old days" are gone.
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen:
** The team used to be the fastest on the Gulf Line, only to lose the spot because of in-fighting and later dissolve due to Snake Eyes.
** Akira Nagase used to be, at one point, one of the five strongest drivers on the Expressway (per his own words). Nowadays, he's fallen so much by the wayside he appears to be ashamed of showing up/doesn't even show up to race that much at all/not even a glimpse of his past self can be seen in spite of him clinging to his former glory.
* IdentityAmnesia: Sakito Ōgami reportedly lost all of his memories of his life beforehand, beyond an "unnatural calling" towards racing which hinted everyone at him being a former racer. It isn't until ''3'' that he finally regained his memories.
* IOweYouMyLife: After regaining his memories and (metaphorically) his life, Sakito feels himself indebted for life to Toshihiko and will do everything to assist him in anything he can be of any use.
* IdleRich: Toshitsugu, as the heir of a massive Zaibatsu, never had to really worry about working or making money. As such, he was free to pursue his passions of avant-garde art and street racing.
* MeaningfulName:
** Sakito Ōgami's name, atleast the one he used since developing amnesia, means "circuit god" in English, hinting at his past as a professional racer. It's unknown if he consciously or subconsciously selected it.
** InUniverse, Akira Nagase's street name originates from his rotary engine's peculiar high-pitched sound and a legend from his hometown.
* MegaCorp: The Kūonji brothers are scions to one, the Kūonji Zaibatsu. Of the two, Toshihiko openly works for them and uses the Zaibatsu's money to fund the team.
* NiceGuy: Unlike Toshihiko, Toshitsugu was a lot more easy-going, open and friendly with everyone, particularly with other team members.
* OldFriend: Toshihiko and Tokihiro Haneba are friends dating back to university.
* RagsToRiches: Hiroshi Kimura, after going from obscure indie kei artist to a break-out major label artist, gets a lot more money to invest in his car.
* TheResenter: Apparently, the Kūonji Zaibatsu bought out Tokihiro Haneba's father's business and left him jobless, leaving him to resent Toshihiko. Hiroshi, who is very close to both, is worried at any possible turn of events this might cause.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere:
** Yasuhiko Fujisaki repeatedly tried to get Toshitsugu to replace Toshihiko, not getting along with the latter. When the two brothers made up, with his plan ruined and his patience reaching its end, he promptly abandoned the team and joined Unlimited, the new strongest team on the Gulf Line.
** Ryūichi Uemura tried to pull the exact same thing at the exact same time due to a nasty falling out with Toshihiko, but Toshitsugu managed to convince him to stay and reinstated him.
* SiblingRivalry: Toshihiko and Toshitsugu did not get along well, which caused Rotary Revolution to lose momentum and its top spot as the fastest team on the Gulf Line. The two made up by the time of ''3'', only for Toshitsugu to tragically lose his life some time afterwards.
* TakeAThirdOption: Between Toshihiko's AwesomenessByAnalysis and Toshitsugu's DontThinkFeel, Hiroshi Kimura hybridizes the two approaches: he uses his innate sense of rhythm, whilst subconciously (and perhaps without even noticing) doing various calculations, which leads him to never repeat a mistake twice.
* WeAreStrugglingTogether: The team went through a period where the relations between its members were rocky at best, mostly due to the feud between the two Kuonji brothers. This actually lead to Yasuhiko Fujisaki to leave the team (on top of disliking Toshihiko and wanting Toshitsugu to take over). Things got better after the brothers made up around ''3''.

Added DiffLines:

* CrazyJealousGuy: Shinji Ōtake has an unrequited crush on Rina Kawahara. As such, he's extremely at odds with Taku Ishī, whom Rina scouted all the way back on the mountain pass and brought into TR Racing and who also has a crush on her.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Takayuki Horī used to drive a lighter, far less powerful car than his current S14: as such, he developed the habit of hardly letting off the throttle in corners, something that made him a driving hazard and extremely at risk of crashing with his new car.
* LoveTriangle: Between Rina Kawahara, Shinji Ōtake and Taku Ishī: both crush on her and are vying on her, with Taku unaware of Shinji and Rina unaware of both. This, of course, causes a lot of friction between the game, which lead Jun'ichi to worry and also look down on Taku for fear of destroying the team.

Added DiffLines:

* AuthoritativeInPublicDocileInPrivate: Following her marriage, Mayumi Mori retains her strong personality, to the point that many other mothers and racers call her "Miss" out of respect, and she's still a wild street racer: in private, however, she often begs her husband for authorization to buy things, be given money or do things, and she heavily relies on him and bends the knee to him.
* BackhandedApology: If defeated by her, Kimiko Fujisaki will apologize to the player for winning. Her tone is very much a childish, mocking one, doubling it as a BaitAndSwitchComment.
* ConfirmedBachelor: Aki Azuma, one of the most stunning and beatiful headturners of the team (per her bio), is not interested in any romantic pursuit.
* TheDeterminator: Rena Kitayama, in spite of her low skill and speed, is incredibly tenacious and persistent whenever battling. This has allowed her to develop a shockingly high win ratio. That she manages to pull that off whilst having two part-time jobs only makes it all the more impressive.
* DifferingPrioritiesBreakup: Mayuri Mori cannot stop racing and leading the Cupid Arrows; her husband wants her to quit to focus on her family and stop spending money on cars. In ''Street Supremacy'''s continuity, this leads to them divorcing.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Takako Mutō, as a result of usually going on the Expressway whenever she gets her heart broken. Her driving is described as "desperate" in spite of her having honest skills. A specific example, she sometimes tends to lose her concentration and accidentally bump into the back of a braking opponent in a corner.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Rena Kitayama, incredibly popular amongst both male and female crowds on the Expressway.
* FoolishHusbandResponsibleWife: Inverted into Foolish Wife, Responsible Husband with Mayumi Mori and her husband. She's a hotheaded street racer who barely hesitates to make any choice, no matter how big or small, draws all kinds of attention upon her, begs her husband for money regularly, and cannot quit even when it puts herself or her family in danger. Her husband, a centurion, is the more level-headed of the two, supporting his wife but drawing a line and wanting her to stay safe for everybody's sake, ultimately growing tired of her yo-yoing between quitting and staying. In ''Street Supremacy'''s continuity, they ended up divorcing, and Mayumi blows most of her alimony checks on her car.
* GracefulLoser: Invoked by Shōko Koizumi, who thinks the player should act this way and admit his defeats, taking them in stride, should she defeat them in ''Import Tuner Challenge''. Her behaviour, should she be defeated, is anything but, as she'll immediately demand a rematch. Her demand being formal and rather restricted does nothing to help her in this regard.
* TheGhost:
** Mayumi Mori's husband.
** Shōko Koizumi's biography in ''Import Tuner Challenge'' will mention that she is the third leader of the Cupid Arrows. However, players only met one of her predecessors, Mayumi Mori. The other previous leader is not only never seen, but also completely unknown.
* HappilyMarried
** Mayumi Mori starting in ''Zero'' to a centurion. They even have a kid together.
** Likewise, in spite of her youthful behaviour, Kimiko Fujisaki is happily married and has two kids.
* {{Housewife}}: Kimiko Fujisaki is one
* HopelessSuitor: Poor Takako Mutō. She's gone through countless of boyfriends, and when it looked like she had finally found the one, they broke up by ''Import Tuner Challenge''.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Shōko Koizumi will tell the player they should act like a GracefulLoser upon defeating them, but will react bitterly upon being defeated herself
* {{Lunacy}}: Beyond drawing out her youthful/childish behaviour and will to battle, Kimiko Fujisaki is reportedly undefeated and undefeateble when the full moon is out. It might just be her using this to build up her own image on the Expressway, however.
* MarriedToTheJob: Not her proper job, as that'd be part-timer, but to Mayumi, her ''other'' job -- street racer and leader of the Cupid Arrows -- often takes precedence over her husband and child, to the point he drives the latter to kindergarten in her obviously modified car. Her husband gradually grows fed up with this, and in ''Street Supremacy'''s continuity, they divorce.
* {{Meido}}: Shōko Koizumi dresses this way, atleast in ''3''. It's purely an aesthetic choice, given that her day-to-day job is painter.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Kimiko Fujisaki
* SplitPersonality: Much like a couple other female drivers, Kimiko Fujisaki is normally a very quiet housewife who steers clear of the Expressway... that is, unless the moon is shining in the sky. At that point, she'll appear to battle others with the glee of a young child.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Shōko Koizumi acts warmly and supportively with other members of the Cupid Arrows, and cold, detached and refined with outsiders. Should players defeat her, however, she will either get fired up or verbally grit her teeth out of frustration. This reflects in her speech thought: it is a lot more formal and refined when "Ice", and a lot more direct and informal when "Sugar".
* JapaneseDelinquents: Original leader Mayumi Mori behaves wildly and has brown hair. In spite of that, she insists she's not a ''Yanki''.
* WetBlanketWife: Mayumi's husband is this, nagging her to quit street racing altogether.
* {{Workaholic}}: Aki Azuma, in jer job as an accountant and in organizing and holding together the Cupid Arrows, helping team members out with their individual issues.

* SpeedDemon: Takeshi Harada

* ShoutOut: Atsushi Baba's street name might seem like a random string of letters and numbers... until you realize "MJ" are the initials of Michael Jordan, whose height is 6 feet 6.

to:

* ChildrenRaiseYou: Io used to constantly change cars, take enormous risks when racing and block opponents from passing him in truly hazardous ways, all in the name of growing Tokio Jungle into a powerhouse team. As soon as he got married and had a child, however, he suddenly grew far more self-conscious about his behaviour, and vowed to retire from street racing as soon as he picked a successor. Although he still hasn't done that, his driving has gotten far safer, and Tokio Jungle's ambition has been reigned in, to the point of becoming a team of close friends who want to have fun above all.
* DisownedParent: What Toshiki's decision to ignore his parents' demands to return to Osaka to run their business in their stead eventually devolved into: when his parents directly disowned him, Toshiki's reaction was one of relief, and he indirectly disowned them back.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The first three games constantly refer to the team's members drifting skills, and ''3'' firmly established that they exclusively drive four-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive cars to make sense of that. However, before that, some members drove front-wheel drive cars.
* FriendlyRival: Intrateam example, Toshiki and Kachiaki started racing at roughly the same time. They're close friends, as is the entire team, but the two enjoy competing and constantly one-upping one another for a very good reason: this way, they help one another improve and overcome their decifits. When Toshiki's parents summoned him back to Osaka, Kachiaki constantly tried to dissuade him.
* HopelessSuitor: Kōji's last love story ended years before the events of the series: as such, he's been desperately trying to find a lover to zero success, likely due to his uncouth fashion style and obsession with his car and highway racing. Noriaki joined him in this department in ''Zero'', with both men going out together to find their other halves with zero success... that is, until the events of ''Import Tuner Challenge'', at which point Kōji finally found a girlfriend, leaving Noriaki as the only one still looking for a girlfriend.
* IHaveNoSon: Toshiki Nagaregawa was called back to Osaka, his native hometown, to take over his parents' business sometime around the events of ''3''. After much pondering and inner turmoil, he ultimately begun to ignore them and their request, which got him disowned. Not that he minds: in fact, Toshiki appears to be far happier without having those heavy thoughts hang over his head.
* MoralityChain: Starting from ''3'', Io gained one in the form of his wife and child. In spite of his inner voice constantly urging him to go faster, to take more risks, he tunes it out and abstains from doing so for their sake.
* NoSenseOfDirection: Noriaki Azuma, by virtue of moving recently to Tokyo in the first game, had an uncanny tendency to get lost and end up on the other side of Tokyo or off the Expressway entirely by pure accident. Even in ''3'', a few years after he's familiarized himself with the layout, he still has the bad tendency of leaving the C1 and New Belt Line by going straight, accidentally ending up on the Bayshore Line and having to drive all the way back. Finally grew out of this completely by ''Import Tuner Challenge'', as he now teaches new drivers the Expressway's layout.
* ShoutOut: Atsushi Baba's street name might seem like a random string of letters and numbers... until you realize "MJ" are the initials of Michael Jordan, whose height is 6 feet 6.
6. ''Zero'' outright confirms this without referring to Jordan directly, merely describing him as "a famous basketball player who shocked the world".
* SportsHeroBackstory: Atsushi used to be a professional basketball player, and one of Japan's top players at one point. His street name indirectly refers this, being a reference to a very famous basketball player who was active at the same time.

If challenged after defeating him, he will try to hype himself up, declaring how it isn't over and he isn't done with the player.

** Seiko Motogi and Koji Miura gradually developed their rivalry when the latter insulted the former's driving motivation and found him to be "drunk on tragedy".

* BigBrotherMentor: Yūki was the one who awakened his younger brother Wakaki to the world of cars. He mentored him for a while and even introduced him to the Metropolitan Expressway, until Wakaki joined MAX Racing.

to:

* TenMinuteRetirement:
** Tetsurō Kibayashi tried time and time to quit highway racing, only to be unable to forget what he went through and what he felt as a racer. As such, his retirement never sticks, and that's how he earned the moniker of "Silent Reviver".
** Likewise, Kunihiro Harada had abandoned street racing in favour of circuit racing. He came back with newfound passion in the first game... and was promptly horrified of the highway's uneven asphalt.
* ArtifactName: As mentioned below, the street name of "Silver Fox" for Akira Yamada had a sense once. However, after accidentally startling an opponent and causing them to crash in a corner, he stopped using his then-signature driving style. By that point, though, the name had become established.
* BigBrotherMentor: Yūki was the one who awakened his younger brother Wakaki to the world of cars. He mentored him for a while and even introduced him to the Metropolitan Expressway, until Wakaki joined MAX Racing. However, Wakaki is actually the ''older'' brother, whilst Yūki is the younger one.
* TheDeterminator: No matter how far back Akira Yamada might be in a race, he never gives up the hope of catching up and passing his opponent for the win.
* DrivesLikeCrazy:
** Akihiro Fukui, the team's second-in-command, is described as a very dangerous driver with the horrible habit or breaking hard and suddenly and accelerating just as fast, to the point no one wants to be his passenger and his teammates frequently complain about it. He's still an incredibly talented racer.
** Likewise, Ichirō Tobiyama's driving is described as "too intense", what with his large swings back and forth to pressure opponents almost driving them into walls or his forceful blocking, which becomes cutting off at times. Takatsugu Migimoto criticized him for years but was seldom listened to. He finally grew out of it by ''Import Tuner Challenge'' upon realizing the importance of safe driving, to Takatsugu's amazament.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Invoked by Haruhiko should Free Way defeat the player's team in a team battle in ''Street Supremacy'', telling them to not confuse them for other "lousy teams".
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: In spite of being an all-GT-R team, Free Way has one member in the first game who drives a completely different car -- Utsu Shī and his Fairlady Z32.
* FastestThingAlive: Team leader Haruhiko Oyama's R34 GT-R was, at one point, ''the'' fastest car in all of Tokyo by sheer top speed. Starting with ''2'', it was degraded to "merely" being amongst the five fastest cars in the metropolis.
* FeelingTheirAge: By the time of ''Import Tuner Challenge'', Tetsurō Kibayashi has started to feel the effects of his gradual aging: his body can't hold up as well as it used to, he lost quite a bit of his endurance and strength, and he doesn't have the sharp reflexes he once had. He makes up in part with a decade-plus of experience.
* FreudianExcuse:
** The reason why Akihiro is a SpeedDemon and drives as he does? He used to be in a relationship with a girl who loved speed coasters and their start-and-stop when both were teens. He emulated that feeling through his driving style, and continues to do so even with their relationship long gone.
** Likewise, the reason why Ichirō Tobiyama drives the way he does? He's a private locomotive driver who'd love to drive a bullet train but is stuck driving slow-moving local trains, leading him to take his frustrations out through highway racing.
* FriendlyRival: Akihiro Fukui and Takeshi Harada of the R.Gangs consider themselves to be "flying buddies": they're very amicable with one another, but they're also always competing to see who can reach the highest speed on a part of the Expressway.
* GracefulLoser: Impressed by the player's progress, he will slant them for big things before passing the team's leadership to them upon being defeated in ''Street Supremacy''.
* HeroicBSoD: Haruhiko will fall into despair if Free Way is dissolved whilst the player is a member in ''Street Supremacy''.
* JerkassRealization: Ichirō Tobiyama came to the realization of how unsafe his driving was and how hated he was sometime before the events of ''Import Tuner Challenge''. He promptly did a 180, amazing his usual critics.
* LetsFightLikeGentleman:
** Yūki Wada likes to battle in a fair, clean way.
** Likewise, Takatsugu Migimoto, which earned him the street name of "Crystal Knights". He overdoes it and cuts his rival too much slack at times, which inevitably leads him to lose.
* MagneticHero: Haruhiko was this to Free Way's other members, who all flocked to him through his raw speed and ability, on top of his winning ways. This laid the foundations from which Free Way was later born.
* MeaningfulName: Akira Yamada's street name of "Silver Fox" originates from the color of his car and his peculiar style of driving: by hiding behind other cars or out of the opponent's sight before popping out again and attacking them, he resembles "a dancing fox".
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Akihiro indirectly, accidentally evokes this: next to no one in Free Way tolerates his driving hijinks, but due to being incredibly close with Haruhiko (as his second-in-command), no one dares complain about it.
* SoreLoser:
** Haruhiko, upon Free Way being defeated in a team battle by the player's team, will claim that that particular battle did not count, as they were merely gathering data before promising next time will be different. He'll do this until defeated for the final time, upon which he'll turn into a GracefulLoser and join the player's team.
** In spite of demanding fair, clean battles, Yūki cannot stand losing.
* SpeedDemon: Akihiro Fukui
* WeUsedToBeFriends: Utsu Shī used to belong to Rolling Guy a very long time ago, sharing that team's passion of the [=AE86=]. However, he later felt disgruntled by his car's low potential and fell in love with the R34 GT-R. Realizing this, he left Rolling Guy, with the remaining members accusing him of betraying them. The relationship between him and them have since hit rock bottom, as they don't even bring him up.
* WorkOffTheDebt: Yūki has been accumulating loan after loan since the time of the first game to afford racing on the highway. In the logical conclusion to this trope, the loans have gotten so big he found himself with no choice but to work more and more to pay off every fee, leaving him with little to no time to race.

* ChessMotifs: Naoto speaks using them in ''Street Supremacy'' to describe the Metropolitan Expressway: in his own words, it is a giant chessboard, and the player is nothing but a pawn. On a normal chessboard, they would be almost immediately discarded... but not in Tokyo: here, all pawns are given as many opportunities as they want to prove themselves and eventually become knights, or even kings. Serves as {{Foreshadowing}}, as that is exactly what the player ends up doing regardless of the team they chose: defeat all the other "pieces", their fellow team members, before defeating the "king", the team leader, and taking their spot.
* TheDeterminator: Gou Fujike. His fighting spirit is so strong that no matter how many times he loses, he always gets back up for the next battle. He got decimated time and time again against Makitoshi of Top Level, yet he always comes back for more.
* FamedInStory: Naoto Obata once used to go on solo expeditions to Osaka. Although no details about it are given to the player, his feats and escapades were so legendary that his entire "saga" is widely known amongst high school students and has been passed down from class to class.

* GracefulLoser: No matter what, Naoto takes all losses with grace, never begrugding the player for defeating him nor mocking them. Instead, he takes them as opportunities to learn something new and prepare himself for a rematch. Even if his team is disbanded whilst the player is a member, his greatest regret is seeing the team he built and nurtured for so many years end up lost to history.
* {{Kiai}}: Mitsue Takahashi is a pratictioner, taking it to the world of highway racing: she shouts loudly whenever passing or being passed an opponent in an attempt to hype herself up for the attack or counter-attack.

* MightMakesRight: Naoto's personal philosophy, as explained by himself in ''Street Supremacy'', is that only the fastest are worthy of leading their teams: those who have the necessary tools ought to prove themselves to the others in order to do so, whilst those who lack them ought to remain at the bottom of the hierarchy.

to:

* StrawNihilist: Koji Miura self-describes himself as "cool and nihilistic", and he definitely acts like one, telling Seiko Motogi of Top Level that his grieving for his lost love is completely meaningless and that all she's doing is "getting drunk on tragedy", telling her to get over it. As a result, some people find him to be an unbearable creep.
* ShippingTorpedo: Hitomi Tsujiki cannot ''stand'' the idea that Ryou Ikegami fell in love with Yamazaki of Top Level. As such, she puts on the façade of a nice woman in front of him in order to try and dissuade him, getting him to focus on their team, whilst trying with far more aggressive methods to drive Yamazaki away when Ikegami is not paying attention.

to:

* AddledAddict: In a rare case of ''behavioural'' addiction, Makoto Ito has become compelled to continue racing, no matter what. In spite of his vehement desire to quit racing altogether, the lure of speed continues to be impossible for him to resist to. As a result, he's fallen into a depressed slump.
* HyperAwareness: Team leader Tokio Aoshima is noted to have incredible attention to even the smallest of setting or detail on his car, something that'd end up lost on most other drivers. It makes a lot of sense when one takes into consideration his daily job of engineer at a car company, meaning he knows exactly what every little bolt on his NSX does.
* MeaningfulName: Shuhei Kitakata's attitude was described as unflappable, cold, unmovable whilst part of Speed Box, with a surgical precision in driving to match. He was called "more of a machine than a man"... guess you could call him "Killing Machine"...
* TheStoic: Back when he was still a member of Speed Box, Shuhei Kitakata was described as completely unflappable, not even moving an eyebrow whilst racing.

Added DiffLines:

* NewMeat: Taku Ishī, brought over by Rina Kawahara from mountain pass racing, fits the trope to a T, being the newest member of the team and the one the most distrusted by other members.
* NoPlaceForAWarrior: In a sense, Ryūtarō Furuki originally ordered the dissolution of TR Racing years ago so every member could return to their normal lives. He regretted the choice immediately, finding himself out of place in a short-sighted and self-centered Japanese society compared to the world of street racing, to the point he started running solo immediately afterwards. Slowly, but surely, almost every former member took notice of him and returned to highway racing too, finding themselves in similar situations or not wanting to leave their leader and friend alone: thus, TR Racing spontaneously reformed itself.
* PuttingTheBandBackTogether: Serves as the {{Backstory}} for TR Racing. The group dissolved by Furuki's orders years ago, only to gradually reunite after he resumed racing. Rina Kawahara was the first to do so, returning after having moved to mountain pass racing and made a whirlwind.

* UnderratedAndOverleveled: A series-wide case, where some lower-tier opponents will actually prove to be as challenging, if not more, than some later ones. This is not just a case of AI scaling: in spite of belonging to "lesser" teams or being "casual" Wanderers, those opponents will have a car with better tuned parts. It gets particularly egregious when their bios state the absence of specific tune-ups that, in reality, their cars do have.

"☆" is used to indicate team leaders

'''ROLLING GUY'''
!!!'''Team Members''': "Rolling Guy #1" Satoru Kobayakawa ☆ (until ''Zero''), "Rolling Guy #2" Akira Kobayakawa ☆ (regular member until ''3''), "Rolling Guy #3" Tsutomu Imai (until ''Touge Legends''), "Rolling Guy #4" Haruhiko Miyake, "Rolling Guy #5" Hiroshi Takanayagi, "Rolling Guy #6" Takahashi Yoshimura (from ''2'' to ''3''), "Rolling Guy #7" Mamoru Mitsuike (from ''Import Tuner Challenge'')
The recurring, most iconic team of the entire series, Rolling Guy started out as a team of mountain pass racers that, against all logic, decided to make the jump to highway racing. Every member drives a Toyota AE86, relying on their cars' handling capabilities and their own skills over brute acceleration and top speed.

* BerserkButton: As an Osaka native, Shou Nakanishi is proud of his home prefecture. As such, hearing a non-native speak with a fake Kansai accent drives him up a wall like little else.
* BigBrotherWorship: Shou Nakanishi adores his older brother like no one else: he became a street racer almost exclusively to imitate him and follow in his footsteps. There are limits to his adoration, however, as Shou himself realized how cumbersome his brother's shadow was: this lead him to pack up and leave Osaka for Tokyo to make a name for himself.

* FamedInStory: Not Shou himself, but his brother: per Shou's bio in ''Import Tuner Challenge'', his brother was considered to be Osaka's fastest racer at a point in time. As his name isn't given, however, it's impossible for players to cross-check the validity of the claim.

* LudicrousMeleeAccuracy: Of the CarFu variety: Obata is capable of setting up empty cans on the road and striking them all down ''in quick succession'' via drifting. A skill that, apparently, ''he never practiced once in his life''. That he does it to show off makes it only more ludicruous.

* MirroringFactions: To Top Level: both are rally-oriented teams with backgrounds in rally, both have self-deprecating female seconds-in-command, both race for supremacy on the New Belt Line, both had two members who left, both have "junior" versions of one another in The Pleiades and Tri Edge: cherry on top, the teams had a Romeo and Juliet deal going on at one point with two of their members. The sole difference is Another Star having one less member than Top Level.

Incredibly long-lived, now on its seventh generation of members, '''RINGS''' are business-minded, leaving small space for small talk and playfulness. They're considered amongst the top teams of the Tokyo Expressway, and for good reason: any prospective applicant to join the team needs to defeat ''every other member'' before they're handed the stickers.

Added DiffLines:

* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Noritaka Motoue is renowed for his purely theoretical approach to racing, to the point he begun using computer simulations to train himself in a variety of situations through data collection and logical analysis. Much like Takaaki Kanai of Curving Edge, this earned him a fitting street name, "Speed Professor"... that said, the transition from theory to practice is rough: unlike Takaaki, Noritaka is not that good of a driver, and is only confident in his launches.
* ArtifactName: As with some others, Tadashi Kuroi's street name of "Hell's Bartender" still sticks by him in spite of him having changed jobs and become a liquor store employee by the time of ''Import Tuner Challenge''. It's partially mitigated, however, by the fact that at that point, the street name also refers to his unique driving style.
* CaptainCrash: Somehow for an ambitious street racer, Takeshi Harada is more known for the sheer amount of times he's crashed his car due to his refusal of letting off the gas pedal than anything else.
* ChallengeSeeker: Toshiki Kawakami is constantly seeking new challengers to face, if solely to prove the superiority of his turbocharged [=AE86=]. Over time, he took a particular liking to taking on cars far, ''far'' more powerful than his, both for the sheer challenge of it and to prove a point.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Takeshi Harada, for an ambitious street racer, suffers from the pretty big issue of not knowing how to ease off the gas pedal. Or even refusing to do so. This caused him to crash a lot in the past, develop a matching reputation, and make his fellow team members seriously worry about him, but it somehow earned him a friend in Akihiro Fukui.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: Tadashi Kuroi's street name is "Hell's Bartender" because... he is, by trade, a bartender. [[ArtifactName Until he changed jobs]] by ''Import Tuner Challenge'', at least.
* ForgottenFallenFriend: A non-lethal example (maybe), worth mentioning due to the R. Gangs retaining the exact same line-up and being established as a close-knit group. Shūichi and Kazuo are both notably absent upon the team's reapparance in ''Import Tuner Challenge'', yet no one in their ranks even remotely mentions them.
* FriendlyRival:
** Toshiki, Akira Kobayakawa of Rolling Guy and Manabu Ishī of Diamond Image all vie for their respective team's supremacy over the Metropolitan Expressway. In spite of that, they're all close friends with a strong shared passion over the [=AE86=].
** Takeshi Harada and Akihiro Fukui of Free Way consider themselves to be "flying buddies": they're very amicable with one another, but they're also always competing to see who can reach the highest speed on a part of the Expressway.
* MeaningfulName: In a peculiar case, Tadashi Kuroi was bestowed his street name of "Hell's Bartender" because of his job. However, the name turned out to be more fitting than expected, as his driving quickly took on a distinctive signature style that sees his [=AE86=] constantly shake back-and-forth, ''exactly'' like the cocktail shakers he employs as a bartender.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: On mountain passes, Shūichi Takizawa had, per his own claims, a win ratio of eight-to-ten, which is quite high and usually reserved for the most skilled of drivers. Upon moving to Tokyo, however, he suddenly found himself as the "Normal Fish In A Huge Pond", outmatched, outclassed ''and'' outgunned by everyone else: fittingly his win ratio collapsed to three-to-ten. He started to work with a friend on the "ultimate upgrade" to, at the very least, go back to being a normal fish on the New Belt Line's tiny pond.
* OldFriend: As revealed in ''3'', Toshiki and Satoru Kobayakawa are long-time acquaintances, dating back to when both first started driving [=AE86s=]. Here, however, it was the more straight-laced Satoru unexpectedly popping back in the wilder Toshiki's life all of a sudden.
* TheRival: Shūichi and Tadashi do not get along that well, and often find themselves competing against one another. The reason behind this mutual dislike, however, is unknown.
