* ActionGirl: She may not have the same combat abilities as the rest of her team, but she actually wins most of her fights; she just isn't as itching to fight as they are. She also relies less on her celestial spirits and more on her agility and whip than expected of a summoner. Then she gains the ability to apply her spirits' powers to herself, giving her a huge boost in melee ability.
* AllergicToLove: Every time the topic of romance and relationships for her comes up, Lucy becomes overly anxious and flustered.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Has more than enough LesYay to more or less confirm she's into girls, most notably Erza, Mirajane, and Levy, but manages to have similar moments with her male compatriots as well, particularly Natsu.
* AmuletOfConcentratedAwesome: As a Holder-type wizard, her power lies primarily in her Gatekeys, which she uses to summon powerful allies to fight for her. Take them away and you're left with an average teenage girl.
* AscendedFangirl: From a big fangirl of Fairy Tail to a member in good standing and one of those who could qualify as TheHeart of the guild in just half a year. Not bad at all for a rookie wizard, even if her combat ability does not compare well to some of those who have been in the guild since their childhood.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: How she usually wins her fights. She is an expert at using her spirits' magical powers to maximum tactical advantage. If her spirits aren't enough, however, she can and ''will'' [[HoistByHisOwnPetard use her opponent's powers, tactics, and strategies against them]].
* BadassAdorable: A fangirl of Fairy Tail who gets a bit star-struck, but is still a competent wizard.
* BadassBookworm: She's pretty booksmart, and is an avid reader and aspiring writer.
* BadassOnPaper: Her list of accomplishments is actually quite impressive. Though most of it is exaggerated in-series, she's is a highly accomplished celestial wizard who even made the Celestial King change his mind due to her intense friendship with Loke and all her celestial spirits, and even summoned the King himself.
* BattleBallgown: Her Leo Form Star Dress. Onlookers {{lampshade}} the fact that she'd fight in such an outfit.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Lucy is a very compassionate girl who treats her celestial spirits well. That doesn't mean she'll suffer to let villains get away with hurting her friends.
* BigSisterInstinct: A chart of relationships shows that she views Wendy as a younger sister. She also develops such a relationship with her distant cousin Michelle in the {{Filler}} arc "Key of the Starry Heavens", even though Michelle is technically older since Lucy was [[FishOutOfTemporalWater frozen in time for seven years]]. Even after learning that Michelle is actually an imposter who was trying to manipulate her, Lucy continues to show concern for her.
* BornLucky: She is noted for having astronomically high luck, escaping from a curse that is said to have a billion-to-one chance of avoiding in the Tartaros arc. It was partially because of this that her parents nicknamed her "Lucky Lucy Heartfilia".
* BrainsAndBrawn: She wins most of her fights due to sheer wit and intelligence, unlike Natsu, who simply prefers overpowering his opponent.
* ButtMonkey: Even after her CharacterDevelopment, she tends to get knocked around by her guildmates from time to time, and she gets thrown into fanservice [[ReluctantFanserviceGirl far more often than she'd like]].
* BuxomIsBetter: {{Averted|Trope}}. She has the honor of having the biggest breasts in the series, but her inability to seduce any man (outside of her own spirits) is a RunningGag. Not to mention that, if Gray is to be believed during a FreakyFridayFlip, [[BlessedWithSuck Lucy suffers from]] [[RealityEnsues persistent back pain]].
* CallingTheOldManOut: She gives her father an earful when she finds out he had hired Phantom Lord to bring her home, nearly getting her guild destroyed in the process. Around the time of Laxus's defeat, Lucy calls Jude out when he reappears bankrupt and demands 100,000 Jewel from her, [[RichInDollarsPoorInSense only to later learn he was just asking for money for a carriage ride to work and grossly overestimated the cost]].
* CelibateHeroine: So far, though mostly it just seems like the right romance hasn't presented itself to her, rather than being opposed to the idea as a whole. While she doesn't actively seek out romance, she ''is'' a sucker for it, judging from the few times Natsu has been [[ShipperOnDeck inadvertently romantic]] with her, she wouldn't pass up the opportunity.
* CharacterDevelopment: She starts out as reluctant to battle, in contrast to her more rowdy guildmates. After the second TimeSkip, she is much more willing to fight, going as far as challenging Natsu and being willing to face down three of the Spriggan 12 with confidence.
* TheChick: She has the least raw power out of the human members of her team, treats her spirits exceptionally well, doesn't like fighting, and is very caring towards those she meets.
* ClothesMakeTheSuperman: Her Star Dresses are clothes that allow her to use some of her Celestial Spirits' powers.
* CoolKey: She owns a whole set of mystical keys that open the gates to the Celestial Spirit World.
* CowardlyLion: She ''hates'' being stuck in the middle of a battle, and she'll run from trouble if she gets the chance, but she'll step up if someone else is in danger.
* DamselOutOfDistress: It's no easy feat to kidnap her or restrain her and she might get out before her guild mates arrive to save her.
* DefectorFromDecadence: She left her residence because her father was an ''extremely'' controlling {{workaholic}} when it came to the family's assets, including her.
* DiscardAndDraw: Not long after she loses her ability to summon Aquarius, the Celestial Spirit King gives her the former's water powers. This NextTierPowerUp also applies to the powers of all her other Zodiac spirits as well.
* FashionableAsymmetry: She frequently wears her hair in a ponytail on the right side of her head.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: The celestial spirits often make note of how kind she is to them, even going so far as to think of them as her fellow human beings, due to the rather harsh treatment they often get from other summoners. Virgo, Aries, Gemini, and Scorpio have all broken their contracts with their abusive owners and sought her out because they knew how kind she is.
* {{Forgiveness}}: She can and will, happily forgive anyone and everyone who has wronged her, given the chance, provided that person ''wants'' to be forgiven. She even forgave Minerva for the vicious NoHoldsBarredBeatdown that she gave during the Grand Magic Games because Minerva actually apologized and was sincerely repentant.
* ForgivenButNotForgotten: [[spoiler: Lucy forgave Natsu for leaving her and the guild behind after the battle against Tartaros for a year. However, she will not let him forget it, mainly reminding him when he complain about others doing what the exact same thing.]]
* FriendlyAddressPrivileges: Receives this from Erza soon after she met when Erza insists that Lucy not use "-san" on her. She gives this to Juvia later on, noticing that Juvia [[FirstNameBasis yelled Lucy's name without honorifics]] in the middle of the fight, and suggests that she can call her "Lucy" from this point on since they're friends.
* GirlishPigtails: Almost always after she changes her clothes. It becomes her standard look for a while after returning from Sirius Island, though she eventually changes her hair back during the Grand Magic Games.
* GoalInLife:
** Her profile states that she hopes to one day publish a novel about her experiences in Fairy Tail. [[spoiler:The final chapter reveals that she succeeded, even winning a prized award for it.
** Since midway through the Alvarez Empire, she's made it her goal to [[spoiler:find Aquarius' key, which was reforged one year after Lucy destroyed it]].
* GottaCatchEmAll: Not in the traditional sense. Out of the countless Gatekeys there are, only twelve of them are golden keys that summon the powerful Zodiac spirits, and she admits at one point that she had hoped to one day collect all of them. The interesting thing about this is, she only actively seeks out ''one'' of the keys during the story, and is shown to have found Taurus's key on her own in the anime. The rest were either inherited from her mother, or they actively asked to join her. By the time there are only two left, she actually declines them, realizing her desire for a complete collection wouldn't be right if it meant severing their bond to their owners.
* GratuitousFrench: Her "Fleuve d'étoiles" whip's name means "River of Stars".
* HairDecorations: She usually has a ribbon or a bow in her hair.
%%* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: One of the kindest characters in the series.
%%* HeIsNotMyBoyfriend: To Loke and Natsu.
* HelpYourselfInThePast: In the third OVA, Lucy goes back in time with her friends and stops a runaway horse-drawn carriage with a little girl inside. Unbeknownst to her, the little girl is her past self, who never notices it was her future self who saved her. The only glimpse she gets of her savior is the Fairy Tail guildmark on her hand, ultimately inspiring Lucy to join Fairy Tail in the first place, [[FridgeLogic and perhaps even to put the mark on her own hand.]]
* HeroicLineage: [[spoiler: Her ancestry goes back to Anna Heartfilia, who's said to be a very powerful celestial wizard who ever lived. Anna worked with Zeref on his Eclipse Gate plan to send the child Dragon Slayers [[FlingALightIntoTheFuture into the future]], and her descendants were been entrusted with watching over the Eclipse Gate until Layla opened it 400 years later.]]
* HeroicSeductress: Subverted. She does make attempts at seduction, but they often fail miserably.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Lucy isn't nearly as confident in her fighting abilities as she should be, though she does manage to get over any doubts once the fighting actually starts.
* HeroismWontPayTheBills: Despite constantly putting herself at risk against the forces of evil for the sake of her clients, her guild and the world, Lucy [[RunningGag still struggles to pay the rent for her apartment]].
* HollywoodDateless: Aquarius constantly teases her about her lack of a boyfriend.
* HotterAndSexier: Lucy had always been a MsFanservice in the series, but this becomes more obvious after the first TimeSkip, where she was given skimpier clothes as her regular attire and a [[GirlishPigtails hairstyle]] that makes her look sexier as well. The ArtEvolution helps a lot too. After the second TimeSkip, her longer hair and further ArtEvolution make her look even sexier.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: To Natsu. As the female co-lead, Lucy obviously spends a lot of time with Natsu and gets plenty of ShipTease with him. Despite this, it remains very ambiguous whether there is a serious romantic interest between the two up to the end of the series. [[spoiler:The finale kinda confirms Lucy ''may'' have some feelings towards Natsu, but Natsu--being the ObliviousToLove IdiotHero--won't let them go anywhere any time soon. Until then, they will stay together as friends.]]
* InfinityPlusOneSword: Summoning the Celestial Spirit King, which can only be done by someone who can summon three celestial spirits at once, an act itself that requires a very large amount of magic power.
* InformedAttribute: Almost all of the female cast have the [[WorldOfBuxom same breast size]], Lucy included. What makes it fit this trope is that Lucy's breasts are the only ones mentioned, most parodied, and regarded as the biggest of all in-universe for some reason.
* InformedDeformity: Natsu has observed armpit hair, a zit on her face, and constipation, each provoking a mix of embarrassment and anger from her when brought up. We only have his word to go by.
* InstantCosplaySurprise: A RunningGag is that she often ends up in a cosplay outfit at a most unfortunate moment.
* JustFriends: Poor Lucy has it hard. Mirajane teases Lucy about either being with Natsu or Gray in an omake, Juvia is convinced that Lucy is after Gray, and Happy teases Lucy about being with Loke during the Battle of Fairy Tail.
%%* KamehameHadoken: Her Urano Metria spell is essentially this.
* KickChick: Mostly played for laughs with her "[[{{Anticlimax}} Lucy KICK]]!!!" and "Lucy Fire" (performed with Natsu's "assistance") techniques. However, it's played more seriously when she becomes strong enough that her kicks do some real damage.
%%* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: The Light to Erza's Dark Feminine.
* LineOfSightName: Her father says that her name came from the guild in which her parents met, "Love & Lucky", observing that the "k" was missing as they left. Lucy half-jokingly comments that a baby shouldn't be named like that.
%%* LonelyRichKid: Her backstory. Also why she ran away from home.
* LovableCoward: Early in the series, she's surrounded by monsters for guildmates and she knows it. As she gets better at fighting and more used to her guildmates, this goes away.
* LoveRevelationEpiphany: PlayedForLaughs. When Mirajane gets into Lucy's head the idea that Natsu might like her, Lucy suddenly becomes very nervous around him and even starts to fantasize about a relationship with him. When she thinks he is going to confess, Natsu reveals he only wanted Lucy to let him borrow Virgo to dig a hole. Realizing she made a fuss over nothing, Lucy slaps Natsu and calls herself an idiot.
* MakingASplash: She gains Aquarius's water powers as a loan from of the Spirit King after summoning him by breaking Aquarius' key, allowing her to NoSell Jackal's curse. It's later shown after the {{Timeskip}} and her battle with Brandish shows that she still has them, implying the King allowed her to keep them.
* MeaningfulName: Her name means "light bringer". It was also derived in-universe from a signpost that read "Lucky" with a missing "K", indicating her unusually high luck.
* MostWritersAreWriters: She's writing a book, though she claims to be an amateur. She lets Levy read it due to her own book interests. She also writes a "journal" about her adventures with the guild, in the form of letters to her [[MissingMom deceased mother]].
* MsFanservice: A large-breasted blonde who consistently wears skimpy outfits, carries a [[WhipItGood whip]], is frequently subject to ClothingDamage, almost always fights [[DesignatedGirlFight other women]], is often depicted in [[CosplayOtakuGirl cosplay outfits]] and sometimes [[{{Meido}} maid costumes]], is occasionally captured and [[BoundAndGagged tied up]], and is commonly drawn from provocative angles or with emphasis on suggestive body parts, most recently her feet. Basically, think of a form of {{Fetish}}. Lucy either embodies it, or has had or will have it happen to her, much to her great embarrassment (almost) every time.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: She's treated this way occasionally by some members of the guild, though this is primarily PlayedForLaughs during comedy scenes. When things actually get serious, the guild is more than willing to go to bat for Lucy, as they have shown multiple times. Natsu can get especially protective of her, most notably if she is hurt or made to cry.
* MyFutureSelfAndMe: She meets her future self who came to warn everyone about a BadFuture. Her future self ends up pulling a TakingTheBullet to save her from future Rogue and [[DiedInYourArmsTonight dies in her arms.]]
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: Several times to varying degrees, but it's especially funny when a naked Lucy is [[ItMakesSenseInContext thrown through the sky and smacks into Natsu]]. It's even gotten to the point where Natsu and Gray are no longer shocked to see her naked.
* {{Narrator}}: She plays this role from time to time, exposing her point of view on the story and anticipating important events. She always narrates after and in-between important and serious arcs.
%%* NervesOfSteel: ''Nothing'' Di-Maria did to her managed to intimidate her in the slightest. Of course, Di-Maria is only the latest in a long, long series of antagonists to put her through that kind of treatment, and she would then go on to beat most, if not all, of them, so she's pretty well hardened to it.
* NeverGotToSayGoodbye: With her father. Particularly tragic in this instance, as he had really cleaned up his act before his death and tried to be a better father even while she was missing for seven years. Plus, even though she does make amends and leave on good terms with him the last time they meet, Lucy never has the chance to actually tell him she loves him until after reading his last letter to her.
* NiceGirl: She is a loyal friend in the face of danger like all Fairy Tail members, but she's generally also one of the kinder and gentler members in day-to-day life, which is probably why she quickly became well-liked in the guild. She provides a bit of a contrast between Natsu's hot-blooded recklessness, Gray's standoffish-ness, and Erza's [[DrillSergeantNasty stern]] [[IronLady leadership]]. Not that she's a saint - it's possible to [[BerserkButton piss her off]], just like with everybody else, and at the very beginning of the series, she was a bit vain and slightly petty JerkWithAHeartOfGold but she doesn't share Jude's cold-hearted personality.
** In the Oracion Seis arc, she declared that she'd give her life to see her Celestial Spirits happy. In the first episode of the Eclipse Celestial Spirits arc, she wore herself out by summoning each of her spirits to grant them a wish. Aquarius chides her for doing so, after she fell asleep from exhaustion.
* NotSoAboveItAll: She has her moments. Her first moment is ''before'' Erza actually makes an appearance.
** Post second TimeSkip, this is more frequent, with Lucy being more willing to jump into battle like her team mates.
* {{Ojou}}: She comes from a very wealthy family and was raised to be a proper lady.
* OneWingedAngel: After completely merging with the Infinity Clock, her body becomes the Infinity Castle along with the power to control perception of time itself.
* OnlySaneWoman: Though unlike most examples, she enjoys the sheer wackiness of her guild once she gets used to it. Most of the time, anyways.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Gets worse and worse over time until poor Lucy has been all but a passenger during the Tartaros arc while in earlier arcs she at least had the designated girl fight.
** [[spoiler: Until she ends up summoning the Celestial Spirit King, who destroys the Cube in its Plutogrim form with one attack. In fact, before she summoned the Spirit King, she was able to hold out admirably against three Tartaros demons, two of whom are members of the [[QuirkyMiniBossSquad 9 Demon Gates]], and flat-out defeats one of them.]]
* PantyShot: Not as often as you'd think, but it does happen.
* ParentalAbandonment: Her mom died seven years before the start of the story. Now, seven years after the story begins, her father has also died.
* ParentalNeglect: Coupled with WhenYouComingHomeDad in regards to how her life was when growing up with her father, to the point where he told her NotNowKiddo ''on her 11th birthday''. Seven years later, Jude decides to hire Phantom Lord to bring his daughter back and gives her a WhatTheHellHero about her running away when she returns to the residence to confront him.
* PervertRevengeMode: {{Deconstructed|Trope}}. When Natsu somehow finds his way into her apartment, uninvited, while she's bathing, she lashes out at him with an attempted drop-kick to the face. Contrary to all expectations, he catches her leg, states her combat training is insufficient and [[ItAmusedMe holds her upside down until her modesty towel falls off.]]
* PimpedOutDress: During the Fantasia parade, [[http://www.imagebam.com/image/29e4cf290657136 she wears]] a {{pink| means feminine}} dress with a frilled skirt, a bodice [[PrettyInMink bodice trimmed with white fur]], and a pink bow on the bodice.
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: At the end of the Tartaros arc, [[spoiler:she finds a letter from Natsu and Happy in her room, saying they will be gone for a year for training. She chases after them, begging them to not leave her behind, since she would be lonely without them.]]
* PluckyGirl: She's a lot braver and tougher than people give her credit for.
* ThePowerOfLove: Loke claims this is why their bond is strong enough that he can summon himself without using up her magic power. She denies anything of the sort.
** Interestingly enough, this is also her interpretation of "The One Magic" that Hades seeks.
* PowerCopying: Post-second TimeSkip, she can access the magic of her Celestial Spirits for herself, giving her the ability to use their powers in combat.
* PowerTattoo: Temporarily acquiring Aquarius' water magic also gave Lucy a tattoo similar to Aquarius' across her collarbone. Post-second TimeSkip, using any of her Spirit's powers for herself gives her a tattoo of their sigil across the same area.
* ProudBeauty: She's proud of her good looks and is annoyed about how her "feminine wiles" never work to distract men. A RunningGag throughout the series is dedicated to pointing out how this never seems to work. Most of the time, it actually backfires on her. Natsu and Gray, in particular, have gotten so used to seeing her with her clothes off that it no longer affects them.
* RapunzelHair: After the second TimeSkip, her hair is at least as long as Erza's.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Lucy delivers a brutal one to Jude when, in retaliation for causing the guild war for Phantom Lord and Fairy Tail and nearly getting her friends killed, she's disowned him.
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: Swaps between this and ProudBeauty, depending on who's looking.
* TheRunaway: A combination of the Circus and Abused types. Jude [[WhatTheHellHero calls her out on running away from home]], though Fairy Tail is rather fond of her and refuses to let her leave, even if they get killed protecting her.
* RunningGag: She usually finds someone waiting for her when she enters her house/a room in her house. Not having that happen actually felt strange to her by the midway point of the series.
** A minor one involves her walking along the edge of the sidewalk near a river and being told by a fisherman that its dangerous. She nearly falls in a couple of times.
** A third one, relatively subtle, is that she tends to call blatant non-humans "persons", implying she thinks they are humans. She has done it with rabbits, dragons and Stellar Spirits among others (though in the latter case, it's also a sweet moment as the said spirits were used to being looked down upon as if they were objects without feelings).
** Her tendency to use her "feminine wiles" to distract her targets, especially male ones, never works the way she hopes it does.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Has a tendency to do this. Early on she does this, and then complains when Natsu pulls a ScrewTheMoneyIHaveRules when they are offered the reward they would've gotten anyways. Later on, she manages to convince the Celestial Spirit King that some rules are too harsh if they would allow an innocent person to die.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: She ditches Jude after enduring years of ParentalNeglect and abuse due to Layla's death to join Fairy Tail.
* SecretlyWealthy: Formerly. Her family lost all their fortune.
* ShamefulStrip: Frequently. Di-Maria is the latest to do it to her. Of course, it's happened so often that it doesn't really rattle her anymore by that point, much to Di-Maria's ire.
* ShesGotLegs: Rare is the occasion that Lucy is seen in long pants; it's usually a skirt or [[WhoWearsShortShorts shorts]].
* ShipTease: With Natsu, Gray, Loke and arguably [[LesYay Erza]].
** Taken UpToEleven with Natsu in the fourth OVA. Also in the final chapters of the manga, and they end up just one step away from OfficialCouple.
** Even moreso in an omake chapter when Asuka asks if she and Natsu kiss; she gets [[LuminescentBlush EXTREMELY]] [[HighPressureEmotion embarrassed]] about the whole conversation.
* {{Shorttank}}: At the start of the series. Nowadays, when Team Natsu actually has more female members than males (as noted at the TwoGirlsToATeam entry), she doesn't really fill this role anymore. Unless if you count her, Natsu and Happy as the absolutely most important members since they founded the team.
* ShoutOut: She gets her name from Music/TheBeatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds".
* ShowerOfAngst: In the Grand Magic Games arc, after getting her magic drained by Obra during her battle with Flare and getting laughed at by an entire audience of people.
* ShroudedInMyth: Many of Team Natsu's more spectacular deeds end up as being blamed solely on Lucy, and word gets out before she can shift the credit to someone else. The more badass things she ''does'' do are mostly only known to the celestial spirits she summons, though her defeating Bickslow and Angel are known to a select few wizards.
* ShutUpHannibal: When [=DiMaria=] attempts an ArmorPiercingQuestion on her, asking what she knows about Natsu, Lucy replies "More than you, at any rate."
* SinsOfOurFathers: [[spoiler:Brandish μ]] is revolted to discover that Lucy is Layla's daughter.
* SlapstickKnowsNoGender: She's probably the most frequent victim of slapstick comedy in the series, including a pillow thrown in a pillow fight between Natsu, Gray and Erza with enough force to knock her out the room, a sleeping Natsu's Fire Dragon's Iron Fist blasting her through the Guild roof and into the riverbank, and... everything regarding Kain's HollywoodVoodoo.
* SleevesAreForWimps: Most of her attire.
* SlipknotPonytail: While getting beaten by Minerva, her pigtails come off.
* SmugSuper: PlayedForLaughs during the Edolas arc when she's initially the only person capable of using magic.
* SpoiledSweet: Though she had a very privileged upbringing, she is one of the most openly compassionate characters in the series.
* SquishyWizard: Usually subverted, since she does have some skill in combat. However, she is still very vulnerable in physical combat. Her [[PowerCopying Star Dress]] ability after the second TimeSkip helps remedy this.
* StarPower: Her Urano Metria spell and spirits are based on the constellations.
* StraightMan: To Natsu most often, but also the rest of the team as well.
* TheStrategist: While she's no where near Mavis levels, Lucy wins many of her fights with clever strategy, most notably her fight with Franmalth and Jacob Lessio
* StrongFamilyResemblance: To her mother, and to [[spoiler: Anna Heartfilia]].
* SummonMagic: She's a very great summoner, though her magic reserves are low so summoning multiple spirits in a fight is more tiring for her than other wizards. At least until she achieves Second Origin.
* SuperStrength: When using her Taurus dress.
* SupportingProtagonist: Early arcs in the series, up until the Tower of Heaven Arc, were frequently framed from Lucy's perspective. Despite that, Natsu was frequently the character to take down the BigBad.
** This continues throughout the entire series. If Natsu is considered the series' main character than, in some sense (and certainly on many occasions), she could be considered the series' protagonist and point-of-view character.
* TaintedVeins: As of chapter 534 from [[spoiler: rewriting the missing parts of the E.N.D. book, thus saving Natsu's life and as a result triggering the corruption that comes with messing with the book. Also reflects on the book now fusing with Lucy.]]
* TakeOurWordForIt: Apparently, Lucy's underwear is so sexy that it gets a HeadTiltinglyKinky reaction from everyone who sees it, especially Erza.
* TaremeEyes: To reflect her warm, friendly nature. Becomes more pronounced after the second TimeSkip.
* TheTease: She even admits she puts effort into looking cute so she can be this.
* TenderTears: Often, and for good reason, as she usually ends up being singled out and relentlessly attacked by enemy guilds. The first time being when Fairy Tail went to war with Phantom Lord in her defense and won.
* ThatWomanIsDead: In the anime adaptation, she renounces her identity as "Lucky" Lucy Heartfilia before leaving her father behind.
* ThemeNaming: Like all her family members, she is named after a song by The Beatles.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Girly Girl to Erza's Tomboy, though this is only by comparison. She plays Tomboy to Wendy's Girly Girl. In-universe, she is seen as a {{Shorttank}}.
* TookALevelInBadass: She's a competent enough fighter to hold her own in a fight at the start of the series (excluding the first couple of arcs before Galuna Island), but gradually becomes more badass with each spirit she obtains. Her levels also skyrocket a number of times:
** She temporarily summons all her spirits at once to prove a point across to the almighty Celestial Spirit King in the Loke arc.
** She gets her hands on the "Fleuve d'étoiles" whip in the Edolas arc, giving her all sorts of mobility.
** As a result of her "[[NextTierPowerUp Second Origin]]" release, she gains the ability to not only summon two of her strongest spirits at the same time without getting tired, but also to combine their attacks, allowing her to put her enemies on the ropes in ways she was never able to do before. Before long, she's even able to summon three at once.
** She's getting better in tactics as well. When she realizes that dismissing one of the spirits that [[TheAssimilator Franmalth]] has absorbed will send him into the Spirit World, forcing him to release them from his body, she then screams that [[spoiler: she's releasing Natsu, leading Franmalth to think he was another spirit and let him go as well. Cue CurbStompBattle from Natsu.]]
** [[spoiler: She became truly badass after summoning the Celestial Spirit King, who was so enraged that Tartaros made Lucy suffer, he temporarily loaned her Aquarius's water based magical powers and allowed her to fight for, arguably, the first time at a level that rivals Natsu.]]
** [[spoiler:After the second TimeSkip, she's become perceptive enough about Magic Power to notice that Skull Millione was holding back, and that Natsu's firepower was now strong enough to pose a threat to the audience. She later agrees, with a confident grin, to spar with Natsu, after seeing him melt the [=GMG=] arena. Later still, it turns out she can use her Celestial Spirits' [[PowerCopying powers]] for herself]].
** [[spoiler: Then there's her fight with Spriggan Twelve member Jacob Lessio, where she not only holds her own and gets a few hits in, but also out smarts him twice. The whole guild (plus Brandish) is impressed, and without her Natsu and Makarov wouldn't have been able to defeat Jacob. ]]
** [[spoiler: In the final battle of facing Acnologia's dragon body, she is able to cast Fairy Sphere to hold him down. Though he puts up a fight, with the help of Meredy they channel everyone's magic straight to Lucy and thus succeeds in incapacitating him from their side of the battle.]]
* TookALevelInKindness: It's subtle, but at the start of the series, she's something of a self-centered JerkWithAHeartOfGold who, while caring towards her spirits and friends, is more inclined to take jobs for the reward (mainly rent money) than actually helping people. Come the Grand Magic Games arc, when she's had plenty of experiences and collected ten of the twelve Zodiac keys, she becomes much more considerate of others. She even declines celestial wizard Yukino's offer to give Lucy the remaining two Zodiac keys until she feels Yukino is ready to part with them. In fact, Lucy [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] that if she were like the way she was when she first joined Fairy Tail, she would have taken the keys without question, [[GottaCatchEmAll just for the sake of having all twelve]].
%%* TownGirls: The Neither to Wendy's Femme and Erza's Butch.
* TrueBlueFemininity: She's introduced in a standard bluish outfit, and has more girly hobbies like shopping and maintaining her appearance.
* {{Tsundere}}: Lucy's normally cute, flirty and light-hearted, but she can have a violent temper at times, especially when finding tresspassers in her house.
* UglyGuysHotDaughter: Jude isn't very good looking. Lucy is.
* UndyingLoyalty:
** Lucy loves her spirits so much that she has told Angel that she would give up anything, even her life just as long as they can be happy. This what causes Gemini, Aries, and Scorpio to seek out a partnership with her.
** As of the majority of the final arc this has emphasis in regards to Natsu, lending him any kind of support she can, and even after [[spoiler: finding out he's the infamous E.N.D., it doesn't change how she feels. If anything, this pushes to risk her life to save his in return]].
* UnlimitedWardrobe: She changes her clothes with every mission.
* VaporWear: Chapter 379 shows Lucy, occasionally at least, does not wear a bra.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Happy and Juvia. The former likes teasing her while the latter perceives her as a love rival for Gray's affection, but both clearly still care about her.
* WeakButSkilled: She's not all that strong physically, but she has the tendency to put whatever tools she has at her disposal to good use, and her quick thinking and wits have saved her on more than one occasion.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Her defining trait is that she treats all of her Celestial Spirits as ''people'', rather than tools to be used.
* WhipItGood: She carries a whip on her at all times in order to defend herself rather than using her spirits for the job instead.
** During the Edolas arc, she receives the "[[GratuitousFrench Fleuve d'étoiles]]", a magical and extendable whip from Virgo, and shows that she can be quite awesome with it, even without a spirit at her side.
* WomanInWhite: Her attire towards the end of the Tenrou Island arc, courtesy of Virgo.
* WomenAreWiser: She tends to be the rational thinker of the team.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: Lucy finishes off Sherry with a clothesline during the Galuna Island arc.
* WreathedInFlames: [[HollywoodVoodoo Used by Natsu on Mr. Cursey with her hair attached to it to defeat Kain Hikaru]].
* YaoiFangirl: When Macao and Natsu [[HomoeroticSubtext have a moment]], Lucy [[CovertPervert lets out a small grin.]] Happy calls her out on it.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: When the guild war with Phantom Lord's done, Lucy flat-out tells Jude that, after everything that's happened between them, she can't return to the residence. And after the seven-year {{Timeskip}}, she finds out that her father [[NeverGotToSayGoodbye passed away over that time]].
* YoureNotMyFather: Lucy is unwilling to forgive Jude for causing Fairy Tail's guild war with Phantom Lord and considers Fairy Tail as her true family, at least before they make up afterwards.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Usually after Virgo brings her clothes from the Celestial Spirit world. It becomes standard after returning from Tenrou Island.

and eventually ''will'' [[HoistByHisOwnPetard use her opponent's powers, tactics, and strategies against them.]] When she loses a {{FriendlyRival|ry}}.
* RuggedScar: Has a small scar
fight, it's either because her magic runs out at a particularly inopportune moment, or she's simply overpowered by excessive brute force. This is, of course, provided that the top antagonist doesn't first remove her ability to fight by taking away her spirit keys, although even then, there has been at least one occasion where she has still managed to pull off a DarkHorseVictory.
* BadassAdorable: A fangirl
of Fairy Tail who gets a bit star-struck, but is still a competent wizard.
* BadassBoast: She gives one to Jude when calling him out for
his eye actions in hiring Phantom Lord, stating if he threatens Fairy Tail, he will be considered an enemy of her and is the most badass guild in general.
* BadassBookworm: She's pretty smart, the Daybreak arc being a good example. Also, she's a writer. She was also given the task of figuring out the collected maps
of the Exceed.
Sky Labyrinth during the [[TournamentArc Great Magic Tournament]].
* {{Sizeshifter}}: Can BadassOnPaper: Her list of accomplishments is actually quite impressive. Though most of it is exaggerated in-series, she's is a highly accomplished Celestial Wizard who even made the Celestial King change at will his mind due to her intense friendship with Loke and all her Celestial Spirits, and even [[spoiler:summoned the King himself]].
* BareYourMidriff: Primarily her attire after Sirius Island.
* BatDeduction: She somehow correctly deduces where Master Mavis' grave is located in the Sirius Island arc, despite the fact that her logic involves a WikiWalk through a series of extremely loosely related words (at one point she claims it is suspicious that the word "demise" has two e's). (This is actually because of the dub; the original japanese text involved actually make it a pretty clever realisation on her part)
* BathingBeauty: [[MsFanservice Constantly]].
* BathtubBonding: With Cana.
* BedlahBabe: She wore a bellydancing outfit during her battle with Byro.
* BewareTheNiceOnes:
** Lucy is a very compassionate girl who is one of the few Celestial Wizards to treat her Spirits well. She is also the one of the few Fairy Tail guild members to avert ThouShallNotKill [[spoiler:as she kills Jackal after breaking Aquarius's key]].
** [[spoiler: She hesitates but still considers stabbing Brandish as the only means of survival with Aquarius' broken key.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: Saves Love & Lucky
from his regular form a Dark Guild all by herself and later [[spoiler:summons the Celestial Spirit King, destroying Plutogrim and freeing Fairy Tail from Alegria.]]
** She pulls this a ''third'' and ''fourth'' time in her and Natsu's fight with Jacob, saving Mavis from Jacob's cruel beatdown, then freeing the entire guild ''again''.
* BigSisterInstinct: A chart of her relationships notes that she views Wendy as a younger sister.
** Despite how complicated things turned out by the climax of the Key
to the much larger Starry Heavens, she proclaims this proudly to everyone she is Michelle's big sister, going as far as to demand Midnight to apologize what he did to Michelle.
* ABirthdayNotABreak: As part of her DarkAndTroubledPast, after [[TheLostLenore Layla's]] [[FreudianExcuse death]], Jude did ''not'' want his work to be disturbed when it's her 11th birthday.
* BrainsAndBrawn: She wins most of her fights due to sheer wit
and more combat-oriented Battle Mode.
intelligence, unlike Natsu the Brawns of the two who simply prefers overpowering his opponent.
* SleepModeSize: The normally human-sized Lily BreakTheCutie: Often during the Grand Magic Games arc. Every antagonistic woman on any of the other teams seems to be out to get her. During the Tartaros arc, she was traumatized after [[spoiler: losing Aquarius via her HeroicSacrifice]].
* BrokenTears:
** After Raven Tail cheats her out of winning her first match in the Grand Magic Games, and she is humiliated by the audience, she
is reduced to a tiny, adorable sobbing wreck.
** She was left screaming and sobbing hysterically as she was forced to [[spoiler: break Aquarius's key, meaning she will never see her again]].
* ButtMonkey: Prior to CharacterDevelopment, she's never safe from the universe's abuse. Though she does tend to get knocked around by her guildmates from time to time. In particular, she is [[ReluctantFanserviceGirl thrown into fanservice]] much more often than she'd like.
* BuxomIsBetter: {{Averted|Trope}}. She has the honor of having the biggest breasts in the series, but her inability to seduce any man (outside of her own spirits) is a RunningGag. Not to mention that, if Gray is to be believed during a FreakyFridayFlip, [[BlessedWithSuck Lucy suffers from]] [[RealityEnsues persistent back pain.]]
* CallingTheOldManOut:
** She gives Jude an earful when she finds out he had hired Phantom Lord to bring her home, nearly getting her guild destroyed in the process before leaving the residence. Around the time of Laxus's defeat, Lucy calls Jude out when he reappears bankrupt and demands 100,000 Jewel from her, [[RichInDollarsPoorInSense only to later realize he was just asking for money for a carriage ride to work and grossly overestimated the cost]].
** Before that she called out the Celestial King for his punishment of Loke - to the point that she [[RefugeInAudacity even referred to him as]] "[[BadassMoustache stacheface]]".
* CatGirl: In the Fairy Hills and the fourth OVA.
Post second TimeSkip, she is much more willing to fight, going as far as challenging Natsu and being willing to challenge one of the Spriggan Twelve with confidence.
* CharacterTics: Tends to puff up her cheeks when she is annoyed or impatient.
* TheChick: She has the least raw power out of the human members of Team Natsu, treats her spirits exceptionally well, doesn't like fighting, and is very caring towards those she meets.
* ClothingDamage: She rarely gets into a fight that doesn't end with [[FanService her top being almost completely destroyed]].
* ConservationOfNinjutsu: Defeats much of the entire Naked Mummy guild by herself.
* {{Cool Key}}s: How she opens the gates to the Celestial Spirit World.
* CosplayOtakuGirl: The magical world views her as this.
* CowardlyLion: She ''hates'' being stuck in the middle of a battle, and she'll run from trouble if she gets the chance, but she'll step up if someone else is in danger.
* CrushFilter: When Mirajane suggests to Lucy that Natsu might like her, Lucy starts visualize Natsu as a sparkly total {{Bishonen}} in a similar way Juvia does with Gray.
* DamselInDistress: During the Phantom Lord arc. Noticeably, she's rescued rather quickly.
* DamselOutOfDistress: It's no easy feat to kidnap her or restrain her and she might get out before her guild mates arrive to save her.
* DangerouslyShortSkirt: She along with Erza is the series main source of Fanservice.
* DefectorFromDecadence: She left her residence because her father was an ''extremely'' controlling {{workaholic}} when it came to the family's assets - including her.
* DefiantToTheEnd: Despite being at the mercy of Dimaria. She refuses to cower before her despite the threat of losing her eyes, telling her to do her worst.
* DemonicPossession: She's forced to merge with the Infinity Clock, she gets MismatchedEyes (in the
form more common of DullEyesOfUnhappiness, and GlowingEyesofDoom to boot) and a CreepyMonotone. The VoiceofTheLegion doesn't help to solidify that it really isn't Lucy's who's talking during the final battle.
* DiscardAndDraw: One chapter after she loses her ability to [[spoiler:summon Aquarius, the Spirit King lends her the former's water powers. It's later revealed that this NextTierPowerUp also applies to the powers of all her other Zodiac Spirits as well, and as shown during her battle with Brandish, [[TookALevelInBadass she can still use Aquarius's powers]].]]
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: Her seiyuu sings the [=OVA=]'s ending.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: In the anime, [[{{Bookworm}} Levy]] wouldn't mind seeing her butt. Erza as well.
* {{Expy}}: To Elie from ''Manga/RaveMaster'', particularly in terms of her clothing.
* ExtremeMeleeRevenge: Deals Mary a devastating, and well deserved "Lucy Punch" to the stomach.
* EyeScream: Narrowly {{averted|Trope}}. When she refuses to cower before Di-Maria, Di-Maria goes at her eyes with a knife. Lucy wakes up on the floor with blood on her face, but then wipes it away to [[spoiler: look upon Di-Maria [[OhCrap frozen in terror]].]]
* FashionableAsymmetry: But just with her hair.
* FightingFromTheInside: She's giving it her all, but during most of her time being merged with the Infinity Clock, she can only cry as she's helpless to do anything else. She eventually breaks free from the clock.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: The celestial spirits often make note of how kind she is to them, even going so far as to think of them as her fellow human beings, due to the rather harsh treatment they often get from other summoners. At least four different Zodiac spirits have sought her out because their original contracts were broken and they knew how kind she is.
* {{Forgiveness}}: She can and will, happily forgive anyone and everyone who has wronged her, given the chance, provided that person ''wants'' to be forgiven. She even forgave Minerva
for an Exceed the vicious NoHoldsBarredBeatdown that she gave during the Grand Magic Games because Minerva actually apologized and was sincerely repentant.
* ForgivenButNotForgotten: [[spoiler: Lucy forgave Natsu for leaving her and the guild behind after the battle against Tartaros for a year. However, she will not let him forget it, mainly reminding him when he complain about others doing what he did.]]
* FriendlyAddressPrivileges: Receives this from Erza soon after she met when Erza insists that Lucy not use "-san" on her. She gives this to Juvia later on, noticing that Juvia [[FirstNameBasis yelled Lucy's name without honorifics]]
in Earth-land, which the middle of the fight, and suggests that she can call her "Lucy" from this point on since they're friends.
* FusionDance: This happens to her from being picked as the sacrifice to merge with the Infinity Clock.
** Happens to her again as of chapter 534 with [[spoiler: the E.N.D. book.]]
* GirlishPigtails: Almost always after she changes her clothes. Becomes her standard look after returning from Tenrou Island. She changes her hair back during the Grand Magic Games.
* GoalInLife: Since midway through the Albareth arc, it's to find and regain [[spoiler:Aquarius' key.]]
* GottaCatchEmAll: Not in the traditional sense, but out of the (probable) thousands and thousands of summoning keys there are, only ''twelve'' of them are "Golden Celestial Keys." So far, she has ten of them, the only ones she doesn't own being Libra and Pisces. The interesting thing about this is, she has three when the series starts, and only actively seeks out ''one''. The rest ask to join her. However, when Yukino tries to give her the last two keys, she refuses them.
* GratuitousFrench: Her "Fleuve d'étoiles" whip's name means "River of Stars".
* GrinOfAudacity: She gives one to Gajeel as he severely thrashes her to show him how unafraid of him she is, since she is confident that Fairy Tail will pay him back if he kills her. Also dons one while fighting Byro in Edolas.
* GroinAttack: She kicks [[ArcVillain Jose]] in the crotch during their first meeting. He understandably
becomes upset about it.
* HairDecorations: She usually has a ribbon or a bow in her hair.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: One of the kindest characters in the series.
* HeIsNotMyBoyfriend: To Loke and Natsu.
* HeroicBSOD: After [[spoiler:breaking Aquarius' key to summon the Spirit King, thus permanently losing the ability to summon said spirit]], all she can do is lay on the ground and clutch what's left of [[spoiler:Aquarius' key]] for dear life, crying her poor heart out. She doesn't even seem to notice she's being attacked until after [[spoiler:a shield of water springs up out of nowhere.]]
* HeroicLineage: [[spoiler: Her ancestry goes back to Anna Heartfilia, who's said to be the greatest Celestial Mage who ever lived. Anna worked with Zeref on
his default form Eclipse Gate plan to send the child Dragon Slayers [[FlingALightIntoTheFuture into the future]], and her descendants have been entrusted with watching over the Eclipse Gate until Layla opens it 400 years later.]]
* HeroicSeductress: Subverted. She does make attempts at seduction but they often fail miserably.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Lucy isn't nearly as confident in her fighting abilities as she should be, though she does manage to get over any doubts once the fighting actually starts.
* HeroismWontPayTheBills: Despite constantly putting herself at risk against the forces of evil for the sake of her clients, her guild and the world; Lucy [[RunningGag still struggles to pay the rent for her apartment]]. This is [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by many characters in series, including her landlady.
* HollywoodDateless: Aquarius constantly teases her about her lack of a boyfriend.
* HotterAndSexier: Lucy had always been a MsFanservice in the series, but this becomes more obvious after the time-skip, where she was given skimpier clothes as her regular attire and a [[GirlishPigtails hairstyle]] that makes her look sexier as well. The ArtEvolution helps a lot too. After the second time-skip, her longer hair and further ArtEvolution make her look even sexier.
* ImageSong: ''Open the Gate'' and ''Happy Holiday''.
* ImNotAfraidOfYou: She says this word for word while refusing to cower before Di-Maria. Di-Maria does not take it well.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: To Natsu. As the female co-lead, Lucy obviously spends a lot of time with Natsu and gets plenty of ShipTease with him. Despite this, it remains very ambiguous whether there is a serious romantic interest
between battles.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Funimation typically spells his name as one word, "Pantherlily". Also in Japanese,
the two parts up to the end of the series. The final chapter kinda confirms Lucy ''may'' have some feelings towards Natsu, but Natsu being the ObliviousToLove IdiotHero won't let them go anywhere any time soon. Until then, they will stay together as friends.
* InfinityPlusOneSword: Summoning the [[spoiler:''Celestial Spirit King'']], which can only be done by someone who can summon [[spoiler:''three'' Celestial Spirits at once]], an act itself that requires a very large amount of magic power.
* InformedAttribute: Almost all of the female cast have the ''[[WorldOfBuxom same breast size]]'', Lucy included. But what makes it fits this trope is that Lucy's breasts are the only ones mentioned, most parodied and regarded as the biggest of all in-universe for some reason.
** Early in the manga, before ArtEvolution, Lucy was in fact more endowed than most other women. As the series' females (including Lucy) got curvier, attention toward only her bust died down.
* IntimateHealing: Having tried everything else, Polyursca orders her to strip and lie beside Natsu to ''try'' and stabilize his plummetting body temperature with her body heat. After a brief moment of embarassment, she reluctantly complies.
* InvisibleStreaker: In a filler episode. When she finally gets to the guild to ask for help, Natsu, who finds her by following her scent, finds a much more [[ThanksForTheMammary standard]] area to grab her.
* JustFriends: Poor Lucy has it hard. Mirajane teases Lucy about either being with Natsu or Gray in an omake, Juvia is convinced that Lucy is after Gray, and Happy teases Lucy about being with Loke during the Fantasia arc. Ironically, she's a CelibateHeroine. For now.
** Even in the last chapter of the manga she can't catch a break. [[spoiler: After hugging Natsu and clearly preparing for a kiss, all he does is drag her away to another job...well, he at least told her they'll be together forever.]]
* KamehameHadoken: Her Urano Metria spell is essentially this.
* KickChick: Mostly played for laughs with her "[[{{Anticlimax}} Lucy KICK]]!!!" and "Lucy Fire" (performed with Natsu's "assistance") techniques. Played slightly less for laughs after the timeskip when she's strong enough that the kicks can do some real damage.
* KidWithTheLeash: She's often the one who will physically restraint and talk him out
of his violent tendencies.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: The Light to Erza's Dark Feminine.
* LineOfSightName: Her father says that her
name are initially separated came from the guild in which her parents met, "Love & Lucky", observing that the "k" was missing as they left. Lucy half-jokingly comments that a baby shouldn't be named like that.
* LonelyRichKid: Her backstory. Also why she ran away from home.
* LosingAShoeInTheStruggle: Happens to almost everyone in the series, but Lucy takes it UpToEleven. Ever since the Edolas arc, Lucy seems to lose her shoes at least once per arc. In both the Edolas and Grand Magic Games arcs she gets a new pair afterwards, only to lose ''those'' too. Oddly enough, she's even shown barefoot on the cover of Volume 27, [[CoversAlwaysLie even though that arc is the only one where she manages to keep her shoes.]]
* LovableCoward: Early in the series, she's surrounded
by monsters for guildmates and she knows it.
Realizing she made a fuss over nothing, Lucy slaps Natsu and calls herself
an interpunct, idiot.
* MakingASplash:
** Whenever she summons Aquarius, though it's more like a tsunami than a splash...
** [[spoiler:She gains Aquarius's water powers as a loan from of the Spirit King after summoning him by breaking Aquarius' key, allowing her to NoSell Jackal's curse. It's later shown after the {{Timeskip}} and her battle with Brandish shows that she still has them, implying the King allowed her to keep them.]]
* MaleGaze: In the anime, when Gemini-Lucy seduces Taurus, we see the other part of Lucy that can be used for {{Fanservice}}.
* MeaningfulName:
** Her name comes from Music/TheBeatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," which is also quite appropriate.
** Also, Lucy is an aspiring writer; Saint Lucia is the catholic church's patron saint of writers.
* MostWritersAreWriters: She's writing a book, though she claims to be an amateur. She lets Levy read it due to her own book interests.
** She also writes a 'journal' about her adventures with the guild, in the form of letters to her [[MissingMom deceased mother]].
Lucy either embodies it or has had or will have it happen to her, much to her great embarrassment (almost) every time.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: She's treated this way occasionally by some members of the guild,
though this is dropped over time.
* TheStoic: He stands
primarily PlayedForLaughs just in comedy scenes. When things actually get serious, the guild is more than willing to go to bat for Lucy, as they have shown multiple times. Natsu can get especially protective of her, most notably if she is hurt or made to cry.
** It does hold true for the early parts of the manga, where she's the only one
among her teammates who is not a freakishly powerful PersonOfMassDestruction, and is somewhat lampshaded by herself and people around them.
* MyFutureSelfAndMe: She meets her future self who came to warn everyone about a BadFuture. Her future self ends up pulling a TakingTheBullet to save her from future Rogue and [[DiedInYourArmsTonight dies in her arms.]]
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: Several times to varying degrees, but it's especially funny when a naked Lucy is [[ItMakesSenseInContext thrown through
the sky and]] smack into Natsu. It's even gotten to the point where Natsu and Gray are no longer shocked to see her naked.
* {{Narrator}}: She plays this role from time to time in the manga, with rectangular boxes exposing her point of view on the story and anticipating important events. She always narrates after and in-between important and
serious arcs.
* NervesOfSteel: ''Nothing'' Di-Maria did to her managed to intimidate her in the slightest.
In fact, before she summoned the Spirit King, she was able to hold out admirably against three Tartaros demons, two of whom are
members of the [[QuirkyMiniBossSquad 9 Demon Gates]], and flat-out defeats one of them.]]
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Lucy delivers a brutal one to Jude when, in retaliation for causing the guild war for Phantom Lord and
Fairy Tail guild.
and nearly getting her friends killed, she's disowned him.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He ReluctantFanserviceGirl: Swaps between this and ProudBeauty, depending on who's looking.
She
has done it with rabbits, dragons and Stellar Spirits among others (though in the latter case, it's also a fondness sweet moment as the said spirits were used to being looked down upon as if they were objects without feelings).
* SummonMagic: She's a very great summoner, though her magic reserves are low so summoning multiple spirits in a fight is more tiring
for kiwis, [[AllThereInTheManual according her than other wizards. At least until she achieves Second Origin.
* SuperStrength: When using her Taurus dress.
* SupportingProtagonist: Early arcs in the series, up until the Tower of Heaven Arc, were frequently framed from Lucy's perspective. Despite that, Natsu was frequently the character

* ThatWomanIsDead: In the
anime shows him gushing over them, which amuses Happy and Carla adaptation, she renounces her identity as "Lucky" Lucy Heartfilia before leaving her father behind.
* ThemeNaming: Like all her family members, she is named after a song by The Beatles.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Girly Girl
to no end.
Erza's Tomboy, though this is only by comparison. She plays Tomboy to Wendy's Girly Girl. In-universe, she is seen as a {{Shorttank}}.
* VocalDissonance: He keeps his BadassBaritone voice TookALevelInBadass: She's a competent enough fighter to hold her own in his SleepModeSize.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: After going
a fight at the start of the series (excluding the first couple of arcs before Galuna Island), but gradually becomes more badass with each spirit she obtains. Her levels also skyrocket a number of times:
** She temporarily summons all her spirits at once
to Earth-land, he prove a point across to the almighty Celestial Spirit King in the Loke arc.
** She gets her hands on the "Fleuve d'étoiles" whip in the Edolas arc, giving her all sorts of mobility.
** As a result of her "[[NextTierPowerUp Second Origin]]" release, she
gains the ability to not only summon two of her strongest spirits at the same time without getting tired, but also to combine their attacks, allowing her to put her enemies on the ropes in ways she was never able to do before.
** [[spoiler: She became truly badass after summoning the Celestial Spirit King, who was so enraged that Tartaros made Lucy suffer, he
temporarily transform into his hulking regular body for limited amounts of time, with all of his strength and sword fighting skills intact.
* WingedHumanoid: He can use Aera in his Battle Mode.
* WorthyOpponent: He became impressed with Gajeel's
loaned her Aquarius's water based magical powers and fighting style allowed her to fight for, arguably, the first time at a level that rivals Natsu.]]
Lucy is.
* UndyingLoyalty:
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: Lucy finishes off Sherry with a clothesline
during their battle in Edolas, the Galuna Island arc.
* WreathedInFlames: [[HollywoodVoodoo Used by Natsu on Mr. Cursey with her hair attached to it to defeat Kain Hikaru]].
* YaoiFangirl: When Macao
and agreed to join Fairy Tail as his companion once he renounced his loyalty to Faust.
Natsu [[HomoeroticSubtext have a moment]], Lucy [[CovertPervert lets out a small grin.]] Happy calls her out on it.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: Along When the guild war with Happy, Carla, and all the other Exceed living on Extalia, he Phantom Lord's done, Lucy flat-out tells Jude that, after everything that's happened between them, she can't return home to Edolas the residence. And after being sent through the reversed Anima portal, separating him seven-year {{Timeskip}}, she finds out that her father [[NeverGotToSayGoodbye passed away over that time]].
* YoureNotMyFather: Lucy is unwilling to forgive Jude for causing Fairy Tail's guild war with Phantom Lord and considers Fairy Tail as her true family, at least before they make up afterwards.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Usually after Virgo brings her clothes
from his friends Mystogan and Coco.the Celestial Spirit world. It becomes standard after returning from Tenrou Island.
