Yasuhiro Hagakure is found dead in the Hope's Peak Academy infirmary.

[[folder:Tropes for the Seventeenth Class Trial]]
* AccidentalMurder: Mikan poisons Twogami mid-trial in order to test whether rigour mortis would affect somebody under the poison's influence., intending to give him the antidote. She fails to cure it in time and Twogami dies.
* AndThereWasMuchRejoicing: Hagakure's death isn't exactly met with much angst in or out of character.
%% * AngstWhatAngst
* ButtMonkey: Hiyoko takes up this role as she spends a huge chunk of the trial locked up in a crate.
* TheDogBitesBack: After initially trying to get Mukuro to let Hiyoko out of the crate, a few unwarranted insults led Mikan to demand that Hiyoko be left in.
* DueToTheDead: After Twogami dies, Nagito encourages Mukuro to shove his body into a crate to prevent him from smelling. She ends up having to cut him into pieces in order to make him fit into any of her crates, with Nagito supplying a knife to do so. Nobody else even bothers to react to this.
* FaceDeathWithDignity:
** Mikan accepts her impending execution for accidentally killing Twogami without much fuss.
** After finally being voted as Hagakure's killer, Celeste goes out with the same dignity that she did in the original game.
* FrameUp: Celeste plants a note under Nagito's door to frame him for helping Mukuro murder Hagakure.
* MontyHallProblem: Mikan and Celeste are forced to compete in an inverted Monty Hall game, where only one option is deadly. Both end up dead too, with Celeste deciding to switch boxes without realizing the problem and Mikan simply having been unlucky enough to have picked the deadly box to begin with.
* NeverSuicide: Celeste tries to claim that Hiro accidentally committed suicide. Nobody ends up believing her.
* NotMeThisTime: Nagito is left alone with the body for fifteen minutes, but turns out to have left the scene exactly as he found it.
* RefugeInAudacity: On two different occasions, Nagito pulls out kitchen knives from his coat, one of which has been stained with blood. Nobody even bothers to question it.
* SadisticChoice: Once Mikan accidentally kills Twogami during the trial, Monokuma adjusts the rules to allow the class to sacrifice themselves to prevent yet another death for her by making voting for Twogami's murderer a win condition as well as voting for Hagakure's. Everyone votes for Mikan anyway.
* SayingTooMuch: While denouncing everybody over the idiocy of poisoning Twogami, Celeste accidentally lets it slip that she was the one who planted the knife in his hands.
* SenselessSacrifice: Mikan injects Twogami with a deadly muscle relaxant in order to test whether he'd be able to grip a weapon. She's unable to administer the antidote in time and Nagito is quick to point out that the information is relatively minor and could've easily been gotten by simply asking Monokuma.
* ShoutOut: This trial features tons of references to the VisualNovel/ZeroEscape franchise, in honour of the recently released VisualNovel/ZeroTimeDilemma.

Yasuhiro Hagakure is found dead in the Hope's Peak Academy infirmary.

* FaceDeathWithDignity:

Mondo Owada and Kiyotaka Ishimaru are found dead in the Funhouse on Jabberwock Island.

* BlatantLies: Nagito mentions that the Duralumin Rods may have come from a new shop that opened in the Strawberry House. Sonia believes it.
* DarkhorseVictory: [[ButtMonkey Kazuichi]] ends up winning the non-canon game of Russian Roulette.
* DemotedToExtra:
** Makoto was meant to play a big role, but when his handler went inactive early into the trial, Nagito ended up being retconned as the one who investigated the Final Dead Room.
** Sakura was also meant to receive more evidence than she did in the trial, but her evidence was given to other players.
* FailedASpotCheck: Hagakure somehow confuses Sakura for her statue in Strawberry House.
* GuiltByAssociation: Taka is murdered simply for being friends with Mondo.
* RevengeBeforeReason: Kyoko murders Mondo after finding a document in the final dead room that claims that his biker gang murdered a member of her family. She also kills Taka for daring to be his friend.
%% * RubeGoldbergMachine: Kyoko constructs one in order to kill Taka from afar.

[[folder:Tropes for Nineteenth Class Trial]]
On the day of Yasuhiro Hagakure's birthday party, the attendees end up being drugged. When they awaken, Akane Owari and Aoi Asahina are found dead.

%% * AdaptationalIntelligence: Yasuhiro is surprisingly on the ball in this trial.
* DiggingYourselfDeeper: Yasuhiro decides to comfort a distraught Taka by repeating his mother's motivational words. This ends up horrifying Taka further as he recalls being abandoned by his mother.
* FalseConfession: Fuyuhiko confesses to the murder shortly after Komaru does, forcing the class to determine which one is telling the truth.
* FrameUp: Evidence was planted on Nagito, Chihiro, Hagakure, and Mondo while they were unconscious.
* HeadSwap: Aoi and Akane's heads are cut off and swapped post-mortem.
%% * RogueProtagonist: Komaru turns out to be the killer.
* SenselessSacrifice:
** When Sonia is executed, Gundham chooses to die with her and Kazuichi attempts to do the same. All while Taka denounces the very concept.
** Fuyuhiko also attempts to do this by confessing to the murder to protect Komaru.
* TakeUpMySword: Before going off to be executed with Sonia, Gundham tasks Taka with taking care of his Four Dark Devas.
* WhatTheHellHero: The others are quick to denounce Fuyuhiko for being willing to get everybody killed with his false confession.

[[folder:Tropes for Twentieth Class Trial]]
Within a day of Nagito obtaining a Universal Key in a raffle, the class is drugged over breakfast, Monomi is abducted, and Celestia Ludenberg and Hifumi Yamada are found dead.

%% * BewareTheSillyOnes: Hifumi ends up conducting an elaborate Murder/Suicide plot with the intent of causing a Mass-Execution
* ButtMonkey: After he refuses to give up critical testimony, Kazuichi finds himself threatened by practically everybody.
* ComplexityAddiction: Hifumi goes to great lengths to get the class killed.
* ConvenientReplacementCharacter: With yet another mid-trial murder, somebody is brought in as a replacement. Unfortunately, that someone is Hagakure.
* DecoyProtagonist: Twogami is given a major role, only to succumb to a slow-acting poison midtrial.
* DistressedDamsel: Monomi is abducted overnight and thrown in a toolshed.
%% * DrivenToSuicide: Hifumi's Motive.
%% * FrameUp: Hifumi attempts to frame Nagito, Hiyoko, and Mikan at various points.
* HopeSpot: It initially looks like Twogami might survive his poisoning. However, he's found dead in the infirmary during a second intermission.
* NotMeThisTime: Nagito turns out to be completely innocent and uninvolved in the case.
* PowerIncontinence: Toko catches a cold that causes her to constantly switch between personalities. As a result, she spends the day unaware of the eHandbook theft or even the murders. She even has to be told about Twogami's collapse.
* ProductionForeshadowing:
** Hagakure predicted Hifumi's death back in Trial [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DanganRoleplay/comments/4j9r4s/pretrial_chat_for_trial_xiv/d36to4f 14.]]
** He also ends up predicting a murder where a "Terrifying Ogre is surrounded by Grapes and shoved down a set of stairs". Monokuma implies that this might be another case of Hagakure predicting a murder.
* RunningGag: Hiyoko keeps guessing "G for Gummy" during the trial's Hangman's Gambits, only for her guess to be wrong. And, when there finally is a "G" in the phrase, Nagito guesses it instead. "G for Gummy" even ends up being an option in the Vote for the Blackened
* SadisticChoice: Subverted. Monokuma provides the option to have either Monomi or Hagakure executed in the wake of the reveal that the Blackened committed suicide. As it turns out though, he'd already made up his mind regardless of the results.
%% * ShipTease: Twogami/Ibuki. Ends Poorly. Again.
* TakingYouWithMe: Hifumi attempts to create a murder-suicide elaborate enough to make the others get the trial wrong, seeking a mass-execution
* TheScapegoat: Without anybody to execute, Monokuma chooses to have Monomi executed.
* TheCuckoolanderWasRight:
** Kazuichi surprisingly picks up on quite a bit of the case, but is mostly ignored.
** Akane is also able to deduce that Hifumi was the culprit behind it all.
* WhyDontYouJustShootHim: Monokuma admits that Hifumi, whose ultimate goal had been to orchestrate a mass execution, probably could've just poisoned everybody with the milk instead of drugging them
