A Website/NationStates and Roleplay/CoalitionOfPonyistStates roleplay largely involving the countries/players of New Freedomstan, the Crystal Spires and the C'tan. Lubyak and United States of Peace also play smaller roles. Maven Auryn, the High Chancellor of the Crystal Spires, has been shot down over New Freedomstani airspace. This quickly throws him into the cutthroat world of Nefreedian (demonym of New Freedomstan) politics, as things are not necessarily what they first appear to be, and even after he gets out of New Freedomstan itself, Maven's journey is far form over.

* [[Conscription]]: The New Freedomstani army seems to rely on National Servists quite heavily, while still maintaining a sizeable professional army. They issue a further draft once the C'tani show themselves. Justified by their neighbours.
* CorruptTheCutie: Ranisath and the C'tani towards 12-39.
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler:Maven being blackmailed by Comrade One have shades of this.]]
* DefiantToTheEnd: Many of the Nefreedians [[spoiler:captured by the Necrons]]. Just as many begged, however, and some collaberated. Or attempted to.
* DisasterDominoes: The entire roleplay for the New Freedomstani government. [[spoiler:Shooting down a foreign head of state, and trying to get him out of the country leads to terror acts and executions. Once Maven gets out, he immediately tells the C'tan (yes, those C'tan) about inhumane research stations. When trying to burn the evidence (including some of the living evidence) this leads to even worse treatment from the C'tan. In essence, the roleplay is one long series of disasters for the Nefreedian leadership.]]

* EnemyCivilWar: Maven gets caught up in one. His [[spoiler: self-defence in Region #3 is being used to whip the population into a state of fear by the Commissariat, who use the opportunity to seize power from the elected government. Also, the Army of Democracy uprising in Region #8.]]
* FantasticRacism: In New Freedomstan, ponies are often kept in research facilities and 'studied' in an attempt to devise a countermeasure to their unique skills. Those who aren't kept in research facilities, are kept in internment camps (with about seven ponies in camps for every three ponies in Stations).

* FishOutOfWater: Maven doesn't completely fit into the largely totalitarian society of New Freedomstan. Also 12-39 14-98 once she [[spoiler:gets out of Dvergheim, and especially after getting out of New Freedomstan proper.]]
* GenocideBackfire: [[spoiler: The Research Stations established by New Freedomstan came back to bite them in the ass once the C'tani found out. A particular act would be the incineration of roughly three thousand ponies in Station #2 to cover their trails, which essentially led to C'tani Justice to be less... merciful than it could have been.]]

* HalfHumanHybrid: Maven, being a half-human and half-stork. Also 12-39, who is half-elf and half-human (or just Halfhuman, by Nefreedian species laws).

* JudgeJuryAndExectioner: Overseers in the People's Civilian Commissariat can be this.

The Commissariat runs most aspects of public life in New Freedomstan, with the notable exception of hostpitals. [[spoiler:Which is a minor plot point, as it is revealed that the Head-Overseer of the Commissariat, the totalitarian 'Comrade One', was put under house arrest by Premier 992-488 through making the hospital personel hand the Head-Overseer over to the army after a botched assassination.]]
* TheAlcoholic: 12-39, and seems to be a general Nefreedian attribute.

* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Many Nefreedians don't seem to think non-human intelligent life is worth much, but especially goes for the government (as many Nefreedians, including [[spoiler:Comrade One]] doesn't seem to have anything them).
