Later on they are joined by computer hacker [[Manga/{{Monster}} Nina Fortner]], elementary school student [[Manga/CardCaptorSakura Yukito Tsukishiro]], android [[Manga/SoulEater Crona]], a stray dog ([[VideoGame/StreetFighter6 Rudra]] in ''Reload'') and loner [[Manga/XXXHolic Shizuka Doumeki]]. Trying stop them is a team lead by the misanthropic [[Manga/{{Berserk}} Guts]], along with his second in command [[Manga/{{Trigun}} Vash]] and mysterious young girl [[VideoGame/GranblueFantasy Katalina]] whom Szayel takes a liking to. [[spoiler:Later, Guts manages to kill Shizuka, and Medama-Oyaji reveals he was not only behind Guts and his group's powers, but that the main team's fighting was part of a plan to summon the embodiment of Death]]. Eventually, Gaara becomes friends with a mysterious young boy named [[Manga/{{Gintama}} Katsura]] who later grows up to be [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Kaworu Nagisa]] [[spoiler:and is the vessel for the aforementioned embodiment of Death]].
