* CranialProcessingUnit: As hinted at in the previous season, Hosts have a processing unit in a protected shell inside their brains. The actual brain matter surrounding it is just for realism. This can be removed to read all of a Host's memories. Bernard, who shot himself in the head last season, learns that he damaged the shell, causing him to leak cranial fluid which maintains the processing unit (presumably coolant of some kind) and necessitating that he replenish it before he shuts down completely.

* FalseInnocenceTrick: Mave pretends to be a park employee when the Quality Assurance guards show up. They are fooled by her outfit until one gets suspicious due to Sizemore signaling him with his eyes while asking about Hosts dressing up as humans.

* GoryDiscretionShot: The head-shot to the woman who gets [[WilliamTelling William Telled]] by hosts is only shown from the inside of the barn.

* KilledMidSentence: One guest comes out complaining to William about the host assault and promptly gets a head-shot from a sniper while lamenting.

** Bernard is forced to harvest the cerebral fluid of an inactive host and inject it into his own brain when he starts shutting down. To make matters worse, his vision is blurring and his hand has a tremor, and he has to do it quickly enough that Charlotte doesn't notice. He manages it just in time.

* SignificantWardrobeShift: Dolores has removed the top half of her sky blue signature dress, showcasing how she's now free of the character she was forced to play, but still keeping some part of it, such as the memories and her feelings for Teddy.

* TodayXTomorrowTheWorld: Dolores tells Teddy that taking over Westworld isn't enough. Their little park is part of a much larger world the humans control, so they'll have to take that, too.

* ObligatoryWarCrimeScene: The opening scene set in the present introduces us to the Delos Security Team, executing captured non-violent hosts. A couple scenes later, we are treated to Dolores hunting down fleeing guests. Afterward, she has three guests captured and left standing on crosses while tied to nooses hanging from a tree. Angela and some hood-wearing hosts also set up a trap to lure guests.

* BlackSite: Delos has a secret facility inside the park, unbeknowst to Westworld executives like Bernard, which is operated by Drone Hosts and used to collect DNA and videos of guests from the bodies and memory cores of Hosts. Charlotte and Bernard use it as a refuge when the escape hatch is compromised by hostile hosts.

* FourLinesAllWaiting: Following the flashback to a conversation between Dolores and Arnold, we get four storylines in the episode: Bernard's, Dolores', Maeve's and William's.
* GoryDiscretionShot: The headshot to the woman who gets [[WilliamTelling William Telled]] by hosts is only shown from the inside of the barn.

* KilledMidSentence: One guest comes out complaining to William about the host assault and promptly gets a headshot from a sniper while lamenting.

In one of Arnold’s old interviews with Dolores, he shares a dream he just had about the hosts leaving for somewhere else across an ocean, having left him behind. He denies it means anything, as only something that can be lost forever is real. He also admits that the way Dolores is changing sometimes frightens him at the thought of what she might become.

Bernard flashes through memories, both of the fall of the park as already seen and other events like Dolores telling him there’s beauty in the hosts, and firing a machine gun in the control room. He wakes up on a beach with a wine glass beside him, and several armed soldiers around. One of them, Maling, aggressively approaches him, but is stopped by Stubbs who tells her who Bernard is. He says they should get back to the base, as the Delos leaders want to talk to him. The base turns out to be just a bit further down the beach, where more soldiers have set up tents. Bernard is disturbed to see them shooting hosts, including an oddly out of character Rebus who objects to them killing women. The man in charge, Karl Strand, argues with a Chinese soldier about who has top authority before greeting Bernard. It’s revealed to be two weeks since the host rebellion at Escalante, and with no information getting out, Strand has been sent in to control the situation. His subordinate Antoine Costa cuts the scalp off a Ghost Nation host, and everyone is confused to see The Maze on the inside just like it was with Kissy. Costa extracts the host’s core program from his skull, and they view the recording of his death, shot by Dolores who says “Not all of us can make it to the valley beyond.” This makes the team realize just how much the hosts are changing.

Bernard’s memory moves back to the moments after the rebellion began. He and Hale hole up in a stable with some other board members, and Bernard tries to downplay the situation as just reprogramming from Ford. Outside, Rebus gets his revenge by shooting at the woman who did the same to him, and after killing her walks off with his gang, including a replacement Walter, to find more victims. One of the board members, Blaine Bellamy, gets Bernard to tell them the location of the nearest staff outpost, but before they can go a stable hand host comes in and asks if they’re going to “the valley beyond” like the others. Despite Bernard’s protests that he’s harmless, Blaine leads the others in beating him to death, and when Bernard tries to stop them he’s shoved to the ground, causing damage to his core as fluid starts leaking from his ear. Hale chastises him for trying to be a hero for the “merchandise.”

In the daytime, Dolores and Teddy pursue several other board members on horseback. Dolores guns some of them down, and sets the rest up to be hanged, coldly telling them they’re facing a reckoning for their sins, and the Dolores and Wyatt personalities inside her are currently fighting over what to do with them. After tricking one man into thinking Wyatt’s going to kill him, she announces that both are just roles she was given, but now she’s evolved into her true self, and leaves him strung up and precariously balanced on tombstones. The man begs for mercy, to which she replies with the old host response to anything from the real world: “It doesn’t look like anything to me.”

Back at Escalante, William emerges from a pile of bodies he’d hidden under to survive the night. A board member approaches and is threatening to sue when he’s killed by a pair of hosts. William manages to kill both of them, and enters a cabin where he treats the bullet wound in his arm. He then puts his black hat back on, ready to live out the newly meaningful Westworld.

At maintenance, Sizemore is attacked by Behemoth, saying the very words Sizemore wrote while preparing to eat him. Maeve arrives and shuts him down, and Sizemore begs her to keep protecting him, saying that with all of Ford’s terraforming she’ll need his help to find whatever she’s looking for. They get to the control room, but find everyone dead. The power shuts down as soon as they enter, but Sizemore still insists he can help, and from the coordinates Meave got from Felix figures out that her daughter is still in the same place they lived together. He protests that their relationship isn’t real, which enrages Maeve as she asks just how much of her is real then, and insists Sizemore personally take her there.

Bernard leads his group to the outpost, and shares his suspicions that the hosts are becoming alive, which Hale refuses to accept. They come across an ATV with two staff members and run towards them, but Bernard senses something wrong and holds Hale back. Sure enough, the staff members are dead and propped up as a trap by Angela and some of Wyatt’s henchmen, who ambush the board members and kill all but Blaine, who Angela tells to run. Bernard quivers as he says the outpost was the only one for miles, but Hale says she knows another place they can go.

Maeve finds a badly injured host who’s still helplessly running through her programming, and shuts her down. A security team arrives, and Sizemore tries to tell them about Maeve, but before they can do anything more hosts arrive and Maeve kills the whole team with their help. She sternly tells Sizemore to never try it again, and says they need to go to the nearest bar next. They go to the rooftop bar and find Hector, drinking the remaining bottles with several bullet wounds in his chest. He’s overjoyed that Maeve stayed and doesn’t care about her abandoning him, and joins in the search.

Hale finds the elevator she needs is offline, and she needs to use a manual override. Once they arrive at the station, she has Bernard log his DNA along with hers before the doors will open. Bernard is surprised to see a pair of blank drone hosts operating on another one from the park, while Hale gets in contact with Delos from the computer. Bernard sees the drones remove the other host’s core and drain its fluid, and asks Hale if this means they’re recording everything about the guests. Hale snaps that none of it matters, as Delos writes back that they still haven’t received Peter and the information inside him, and they refuse to send help until they get it.

William is scrounging supplies from some dead bodies when the child Ford host approaches him. Speaking with the adult Ford’s voice blended in, he congratulates William on achieving his goal, and now there is a game meant for him, where he has to find “the door.” When it becomes clear that the host won’t give any more information, William kills him and rides off.

As Maeve heals Hector’s bullet wounds, Sizemore comes in with a cart full of the costumes and props they’ll need to go back into the park. Maeve insists he still come with them, forcing him to actually enter the park and experience some of what he’s been putting the hosts through all these years, including making him change clothes right in front of them.

Teddy is still confused about what’s happening, as he knows nothing about the truth of the park. Dolores can only tell him there are people that have been controlling them, and now that she has her memories back she plans to not only liberate their own world but wipe humans out entirely so the hosts can take over the Earth. Angela rides up and announces she’s found something Dolores had ordered, which she says will let Teddy see the truth.

Bernard reveals to Hale that the hosts have a “mesh network” to keep them from interfering in each other’s stories that allows them to mentally link with other hosts nearby, which they can tap into to find Peter. As he starts the process on the host the drones were working on, his hands start shaking, and while Hale is distracted changing into more practical clothes, he accesses his program and finds that the fluid leak will kill him in less than an hour. He barely manages to transfer fluid from the host into his own head before Hale gets back, and tells her he’s found Peter.

Back in the present, Strand’s team enters Escalante and walk through the piles of now very decayed corpses, including Ford still on the stage. Bernard has been telling them he has no memory of what happened. At a nearby river, Costa finds a dead Bengal tiger host, which Stubbs says is from “Park Six,” though they’ve never had hosts cross park boundaries before. They also get a signal that all the hosts are together in the Western Valley and head out.

Everyone is shocked to see the Western Valley has been flooded to create a whole sea, which Stubbs insists Ford couldn’t have done in secret. Upon getting a closer look, it turns out all the hosts are floating in the water dead, including Teddy. Strand asks Bernard again if he can remember anything, and Bernard replies he’s the one who killed them all.

In the hours following the massacre of the Delos board members, Bernard and Charlotte take shelter in an underground bunker, where they resolve to work together in locating the decommissioned Peter Abernathy and securing aid.

Ten days after Ford's death, Dolores has embarked on a bloody campaign to hunt the survivors. She tells Teddy her programming has caused her personas to merge and that she has greater plans for the hosts. Maeve recruits Hector and forces Lee to help her find her daughter. William, who also survived the massacre, encounters the young Robert Ford host, who reveals that a game designed just for him has commenced.

Two weeks later, a security team sent by Delos to reassert control over Westworld finds Bernard and enlists his help in investigating a series of anomalies. The investigation leads them to a lagoon filled with hundreds of dead hosts that Bernard claims to have killed.

* [[AlmostDeadGuy Almost Dead Girl]]: Maeve finds one of her hooker friends lying in the corridor with BloodFromTheMouth. Both share some gentle last words before the girl dies.

* AnachronicOrder: Even more so than last season, though a little more blatant. At ''minimum'', in this episode, there are three timelines at work: the immediate aftermath of the Delos board massacre, the two-weeks-later timeline, and some long-ago timeline wherein Dolores and Bernard are conversing.

* ElectronicSpeechImpediment: When Section 53 of the Delos headquarters goes offline, the female ComputerVoice slows down.

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: We don't know yet what happened with either Sylvester, Felix Lutz, or Armistice. Also, Charlotte Hale only appears in scenes set in Bernard's flashbacks and there's no mention of her by the time Bernard is awakened on the beach.

* InMediasRes: The episode starts two weeks after the Gala massacre, with Bernard found on the beach by the Delos security team led by Karl Strand. As they investigate, we get scattered flashbacks showing what Bernard, Dolores, Maeve and William have been up to during that time.

* ShamefulStrip: Maeve forces Sizemore to strip naked, fully naked, so Hector can wear his clothes.

* SplitPersonalityMerge: Dolores implies her actions are are the product of the memories and impulses of both "the rancher's daughter" and of Wyatt.

* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: William kills Ford's child Host once he told William everything he needs to hear (likely a piece of RealLifeWritesThePlot as it would be impossible for the child actor to play an ageless robot much longer).

* EvilInc: Delos is perfectly willing to let everyone on the Island, including board members and their CEO, die because Charlotte Hale had failed to send "the package" which carried the source code for the Hosts (the decommissioned Peter Abernathy).

* {{Main/Irony}}: Lee Sizemore offhandedly remarks that Maeve “clearly didn’t take” to motherhood as Maeve is on the verge of tears remembering her daughter.

* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Delos collecting the DNA and images of the guests from the bodies and memories of the hosts for an still undisclosed goal sounds like a futuristic version of Facebook collecting the private data of its users to sell it to private interests.
