I'm pretty sure that's not played for laughs...

* HypocriticalHumor: Papa Smurf and the other male adult Smurfs got mad at the Smurflings for creating Sassette, despite the fact they were the ones who hurt Smurfette's feelings in the first place.

* AMistakeIsBorn: When Papa Smurf punishes the Smurflings by giving them extra chores and Sassette comes to see what's going on, Snappy snaps at her, saying that they're being punished because they created her (using Gargamel's spell book) and implied that Papa Smurf didn't want her and that she wasn't a real Smurf. Sassette is crushed and runs away, and once Natural tells Snappy he was a bit rough on her, Snappy shows remorse ... but is it too late for sorry? [[spoiler: In the end, of course, Papa Smurf tells her that she is every bit a Smurf and is a welcome part of the Smurf being. For once, Gargamel – but only because he knows that she is literally a ticking time bomb – agrees.]]

* WhyAmITicking: Gargamel – aware that a Smurf had taken some clay from Squeamy Squirming Grotto to create a new Smurf – creates a spell to cause the clay to explode (and kill anyone within several hundred yards of it) with the noonday sun. This eventually backfires on Gargamel, when Sassette comes to live with him and the spell had yet to be broken.

In this story, Nat, Snappy, and Slouchy, who were now Smurflings, see that Smurfette is lonely because there is no other female Smurf she can be friends with. After finding out how Smurfette was created in the first place, the three Smurflings go to Gargamel's castle to get the page from his spell book on how to create a Smurfette, then gather the ingredients together and use Papa Smurf's laboratory to create what they think would be another female Smurf like Smurfette. Instead, they create a female Smurf who's physically no older than they are, and because of how terrible she initially treated the other Smurfs upon her "birth", she was given the name Sassette. Papa Smurf finds out what the Smurflings have done and punish them accordingly. But Sassette's creation comes at a terrible price: Gargamel, finding out that the Smurfs were intending to create another female Smurf, casts a spell on the blue clay used to make the Smurfette so that it would explode upon exposure of the noonday sun. Papa Smurf finds that out and so creates a formula that would prevent Sassette from exploding. But Sassette, upon realizing that her created form was due to the evil wizard Gargamel, runs away from the village to seek out the one whom she calls Papa...much to the dismay of Gargamel himself, who runs away from Sassette to prevent her from exploding within his vicinity. With much reasoning from both Papa Smurf and Gargamel, Sassette rejoins the Smurfs, is prevented from exploding, and becomes adopted by the Smurfs, while Gargamel, who wonders why Sassette didn't explode around noonday, revisits where he found the blue clay, and gets a face full of explosions when the noonday sun finally lights up the clay.
