Chen has been kidnapped by her date, Caleb Wright, who turns out to be the student of serial killer Rosalind Dyer. Caleb tattoos her with a marking that states today will her day of death, just like his other victims. Caleb proceeds to bury her in the middle of the desert with the intent that will die of exposure. The others attempt to find Chen by tracking down every possible lead, continually stymied by the fact that Caleb Wright used a variety of aliases and stolen identities to protect his location.
Nolan attempts to get information from Rosalind Dyer about her student and eventually plays on her vanity enough that he successfully gets her help. They find and rescue Chen at the last minute. Rosalind finds that due to Caleb taking meticulous notes, they no longer need her help to find any of her remaining victims' remains.
Rosalind dangles another secret about Detective Armstrong to Nolan but he refuses to listen.
