* ArtisticLicenseLaw: It would be highly unrealistic for Lincoln to get banned from Canada all because he didn't want maple syrup on his pancakes. If this was RealLife, he would've only receive being called out.

* FelonyMisdemeanor / SeriousBusiness: Canada, [[CanadaEh being Canada]], absolutely '''''loves''''' their maple syrup. When Lincoln (politely) turns down the offer of having syrup on his pancakes at a local restaurant, the Canadians are so offended that he's banned from Canada for three years and sent back to Royal Woods Middle School.

* CanadaEh: Lincoln's accidentally transferred to a middle school school in Canada, so naturally the residents there talk like this. There is even an entire song dedicated to showing Lincoln what Canada is like, including several uses of "Eh" in a row at the very end of the song.

* AnAesop: Adjusting to change can be a difficult challenge, but you have to try to make the best of it as you can, and who knows? You might even find something you can still enjoy out of this change. This episode not only focused on Lincoln in this regard, but also both his oldest and youngest sisters in different ways.
** Lincoln returns to Royal Woods Middle School after being (temporarily) banned from Canada. He's still stuck in Mr. Bolhofner's class, but at least he's still able to see his friends again more easily, even if it's not as frequently as it was back when they were in elementary school.
** Lori struggles to fit into her new college, and she's ready to just give up and return home to her family. However, she decides to come back, adjust to her college, and make the most of it, inspired by Lincoln deciding to make the most of his Canadian middle school.
** Lily isn't ready to move on to preschool and see her parents less, so she fakes not being potty-trained to "stay home forever." However, when Leni comes back from there and shares all the fun activities that the preschool has to offer, Lily is ultimately inspired to attend for real.

* KarmaHoudini: Mr. Bolhofner and Lynn Jr. receive no comeuppance for their mistreatment of Lincoln. The former for being a SadistTeacher, and the latter for abusing her power as hall monitor. She even gets away with locking Lincoln's friends, Rusty and Zach up and giving Principal Ramirez herself a warning pass.

* PutOnABus: [[DownplayedTrope Sort of]]--Lori will continue being a character on the show, but now that she's done with high school and is finally off at college[[note]](specifically one that's far enough away where it just wouldn't be practical for her to live off-campus as a commuter)[[/note]], she won't be appearing as frequently as before.

* RunningGagged: Since Lily becomes potty trained at the end of this episode, the RunningGag involving her [NakedPeopleAreFunny running around naked]], and [[PottyFailure pooping in her diaper]] has been dropped.

* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: Lori's off at college, Lily starts preschool and the rest of the kids are now a grade higher than they were in the first four seasons--their parents, especially their father, [[EmptyNest gets hit with this feeling pretty hard]].

* BittersweetEnding: Lori's now away from her home and is having trouble fitting in for now, Lincoln won't be seeing his friends as much since he's in a different homeroom class, and Lynn Jr. and Mr. Bolhofner [[KarmaHoudini never got punished]]. However, [[IChooseToStay Lori chooses to stay and endure]], and Lincoln and his friends manage to return to Royal Woods Middle School.
