* {{Gaslighting}}: Barry first tries to avoid blame by making Beverly think she taped over her own videos. When he comes clean, but justifies it by saying his greatness has been preserved in film, Bev reveals she's been lying about things like "regulation basketball hoop size" for all of Barry's life to build up his self-confidence.
* GrowingUpSucks: Murray had fun ''designing'' a robot with Adam, but when it's suggested they actually ''build'' one, he points out how unrealistic it is and wants Adam to stop having an overactive imagination. Erica supports this decision, having kept an embarrassing doll set well into Grade Nine. But when Murray and Pops see Adam actually putting away his toys and watching the Weather Network, Pops tells Murray this is happening too fast, and they should savor Adam's youth while it lasts. It's also revealed that Erica still has one of her old dolls, which she hold fondly.

to:

* ComicalOverreacting: Barry has a freak-out when he learns the basketball hoop Beverly once said was "regulation size"...isn't, even though it was obvious to the rest of the JTP, mainly because he had recently entered a dunking competition.
* DiggingYourselfDeeper: After seeing how his {{Gaslighting}} is negatively affecting Beverly, Barry decides to make a video {{Montage|s}} of all the things she does that he appreciates, like chores and yelling about safety...which, while already bad on its own, is compounded when he realizes too late that he taped it over ''another'' childhood memory, this time of his potty training.

* HypocriticalHumor: When learning the truth about basketball hoop sizes, Barry freaks out about how Beverly has falsely inflated his ego...and how he'll just be a ''mere'' Rap God.
* IncrediblyLameFun: Murray gets addicted to watching The Weather Network, showing excitement about snow warnings in other states, and only bonding with Adam when their robot designs include things like a Doppler radar and snowplow.

* TitleDrop: Murray tries to cheer Adam up in the end by buying him an RC model of the Film/ShortCircuit robot that inspired him in the first place, but misremembers its name as "Jimmy 5" instead of "Johnny 5".

to:

* {{Montages}}: The B-Plot starts with Barry accidentally taping a "Jam-pilation" of his basketball dunks over a tape of his fifth birthday. He then makes a "Mom-tage" to calm down his mom after she's despondent over ([[{{Gaslighting}} supposedly]]) erasing her own old tapes. Later, after Barry thinks his dream of basketball stardom is dead, Beverly makes a "Schmoopilation" (named after what she calls her kids, "Schmoopie") for Barry to remind him of his other talents.
* RuleOfThree: The B-Plot features three {{Montages}}: the Jampilation, the Momtage, and the Schmoopilation.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: One moment in Barry's tape of montaged Beverly moments is her unclogging a toilet, with the caption "It was Dad not Me".

* ItsAllJunk: The theme of both plots. Murray and Erica try convincing Adam this full-heartedly, but end up subverting it (see above). Meanwhile, Beverly plays it straight, coming to the conclusion that memories of the past aren't as important as encouraging and spending time with Barry in the present.
