In real life, Greg and/or Mike might have been facing misdemeanor charges of reporting a false emergency, and the officer might have also been in hot water, too. [[note]]The actual reality is in fact '''much worse''' than that-had Mike and Greg not caught the officer in time to explain the prank, the Air Force would have arrived and '''''seized the Brady's house''''', first as an investigation site and then-after the ten minutes (at most) it would have taken to discover the forgery-claimed as federal civil asset forfeiture. Not that losing the house would have mattered much anyway-mostly because the Brady family would be sitting in federal prison for [[https://www.pagepate.com/experience/criminal-defense/federal-crimes/false-statement-charges/ lying to a Pentagon offical]], having failed to convince any jury that such a cheap and obvious gag could be reasonably mistaken for the real thing.[[/note]].

The youngest Brady boy, Bobby, had a very wild imagination and was a big daydreamer. Whilst most of his dreams were about his success in sports, then one of his later dreams was really '''"Out of This World"'''.

Peter and Bobby visit the TV studio, where astronaut James McDivitt is featured on a talk show, and get autographs from him. That night, as they are sleeping, Bobby hears a weird noise, and then the boys look out of the window where they see a weird red blip. They mistakenly jump to the conclusion that what they saw was an UFO.

Next day at breakfast table, they explain their encounter to the girls, who only believe they have lost their minds, as Jan points out: "If you ask me, I think they're both nuts". Just then, Greg walks in, and also refuses to believe his younger brothers' UFO theory.

This day at school, Peter and Bobby also tried to get their classmates to join in in their UFO-hysteria, without any success. They decide to borrow Carol's camera and camp out in the backyard, so that they could have the chance of getting their proof.

The night, as they are camping out, Jan and Cindy come to see them, but they still believe the boys are nuts and make fun of them. Finally, as the night ticks on, the UFO suddenly shows up, and the boys scramble to take pictures. What they didn't know, however, was that Greg was up in his attic room, making the UFO noise with a duck whistle and pointing a red flashlight at a plastic curtain. When Marcia comes up to the attic to bring Greg her thermos for his fishing trip, she catches on. Greg explains that he just wanted to get even with Peter and Bobby for having squaled on him on him getting home late on Saturday night. And for Peter and Bobby had squealed on her too, Marcia also joins in.

Peter and Bobby, now armed with all the proof, run with the camera to Mike and Carol, Carol agrees to develop the film for them in the morning. That night, Bobby has a dreams about a possible encounter with two aliens from Kaplutus, that's like 10 billion miles away, who arrive in a flying saucer. They even offer to take him to their planet with him, promising that he'll be back home in 3,000 years, but then explain that it would be only 10 minutes on Earth. Bobby then happily boards the flying saucer. Just then, Peter wakes him up from his dream.

The next morning, Carol, Peter and Bobby are all in the dark room as Carol develops the pictures. Bobby is a bit worried that they should have taken the pictures to a professional instead, since Carol is just an amateur photographer, and he's afraid she could ruin their claim to fame. Meanwhile, Greg and the girls are at the breakfast table, when suddenly Greg and Marcia leave, as they believe that in Peter and Bobby's case, UFO could only mean "Undoubtedly Flipped Out".

Just then, Peter and Bobby burst out of the dark room with their pictures. They're ready to call the newspaper and report their UFO sighting, but Carol refuses, that they won't do anything with these pictures before Mike can take a look at them. Mike then calls the Air Force, but refusing to deal with the UFO case, they send LAPD in instead.

A stern-looking senior cop shows up, with two years left until his retirement. He takes a look at the pictures, and concludes that whatever it is, it's certainly not UFO. Just then, Greg and Marcia walk in on them, and upon seeing that their little joke had gotten out of hand, Greg drags Mike to his attic pad and explains to him the prank. Downstairs, the police captain is ready to call the UFO case closed, but just then, with Greg's demonstration, the "UFO" is there again. The captain suddenly makes a 180 flip - that he actually did see a UFO, and also reports it to the USAF. Trying to get herself and Greg out of the trouble, Marcia tries to get the officer to wait before making the call, albeit unsuccessfully, as he still reports it and tells them to lift the Air Defense Command immediately, and even gets Peter to take a picture of himself reporting the UFO.

Upstairs, having witnessed the UFO demonstration, Mike drags the Police Captain to Greg's attic room, where Greg is forced to explain everything. Realizing that he could also be in hot water for reporting the fake UFO, the officer makes a deal with Greg to sweep the UFO under the rug. Now Greg just has to make it up to Peter and Bobby -- or not only, as Mike also forbids him from using the family car for the weekend, which means that his fishing trip with buds is off.

Brigadeer General James [=McDivitt=], USAF Ret., is a guest on the local talk show, recalling his [[RealLifeWritesThePlot real-life encounter]] with a [=UFO=] during his Gemeni 4 mission on June 4, 1965. Alas, someone is putting something over these two naive Brady boys, and it is none other than their older brother, Greg. As we will soon find out, they had squealed on him for coming home after curfew one night. He had hung a plastic curtain on a clothesline he rigged between the property-line fence and his attic room window, put red crepe paper over the light beam of a flashlight (with a small cutout to resemble a ship),

* IdiotBall: C'mon, weren't Peter and Bobby mature enough to tell that there was a plastic curtain in their backyard, or that the "[=UFO=]" was obviously a fake, even if it was just by keeping on showing up? Undoubtedly, Robert Reed tried – without success – to make this point clear to anyone who would listen and that this was just more slapstick horseshit.
