* LipReading: Something of a subversion. When White notices that Torch had a whole conversation with him without wearing his hearing aid (which was actually a device used in the crime), Slim claims that Torch can lip-read. White instantly realizes that no one is ''that'' good at lip-reading.

A fire breaks out at the warehouse where Perry White recently dropped off the Daily Planet's payroll money. Superman puts it out, but there's another problem: the money is gone! As White was the last person seen with it, suspicion falls on him. But we learn that two crooks, Slim and his compulsively joking sidekick Torch, actually robbed the place as it burned using a fireproof suit they developed. The two go around chasing fires this way under the guise of "Fireman's Friends," driving a food truck to supply firefighters as they work. When White gets wind of the scheme, he gets into even worse trouble than before...

!!This episode contains examples of:
*ClearMyName: White tries to do this by putting on his investigative-reporter hat to find out who really stole the money.
*DudeNotFunny: In-universe, everyone's reaction to Torch's fire-related jokes.
* IGaveMyWord: Superman agrees to let Torch go on Torch's promise that he'll reveal where he's keeping White, adding "I always keep my word." Torch, on the other hand, isn't so scrupulous.
*LipReading: Something of a subversion. When White notices that Torch had a whole conversation with him without wearing his hearing aid (which was actually a device used in the crime), Slim claims that Torch can lip-read. White instantly realizes that no one is ''that'' good at lip-reading.
*MeaningfulName: Torch, anyone?
*OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: We have to rely on the other characters to describe Superman charging into a burning building, presumably because this was beyond the show's FX budget.
*PungeonMaster: Torch, which turns out to be his undoing. Superman realizes that his wordplay always reveals clues, so when he says White is in the ''safest'' place imaginable...
*ThoseTwoBadGuys: Slim and Torch, with their contrasting personalities and helpfully expository dialogue.
