* NotMeThisTime: Lursa and B'Etor weren't trying to kill Worf this time around. In fact, they've never had any particular interest in him except when the ''Enterprise'' gets in the way of their schemes. The fact that they haven't crossed paths recently is an early hint that [[{{Foreshadowing}} something doesn't quite add up]] about K'mtar's story.

It's pretty common for parents to worry about their young child falling behind and suffering for it many years down the line.

* WritersCannotDoMath: They seem to have forgotten that the age of Alexander's actor [[SoapOperaRapidAgingSyndrome doesn't quite match up with that of the character.]] K'mtar says that he watched his mother die when he was three years old; during the events of [[Recap/StarTrekTheNextGenerationS4E7Reunion that episode]], Alexander was only one.
** Also, Worf and K'mtar are both very concerned that Alexander is not ready for his Rite of Ascension, a ceremony that absolutely must be performed before the boy turns thirteen. Since he's currently only four, their sense of urgency seems somewhat unwarranted.

* ContinuityNod: The Duras Sisters' [[Recap/StarTrekDeepSpaceNineS01E03PastPrologue visit]] to the Bajor Sector the previous year is not only acknowledged, but is also a plot point. Starfleet has lost track of Lursa and B'Etor after they left Deep Space Nine, forcing Riker to turn to contacts like Quark to try and pick up the trail.
* CrossOver: Not quite as much as [[Recap/StarTrekTheNextGenerationS6E15Birthright the last time it happened]], but one of Riker's leads to tracking down the Duras sisters is [[Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine Quark]], who even gets [[TheCameo a little on-screen sparring time with the commander]]. His cameo also serves the purpose of recapping the broad strokes of [[Recap/StarTrekDeepSpaceNineS01E03PastPrologue the episode "Past Prologue"]] for TNG viewers who weren't watching the spinoff show.
