* PassiveAggressiveKombat: Captain Keogh and Dax get into a round of this prior to leaving the station, with both getting in good hits. Dax tries to offer Keogh some blatantly obvious advice about preparing the ''Odyssey'' for combat, while Keogh snarks she should try serving on a starship. Dax smugly says she's happy where she is, implying she thinks the rundown [=DS9=] is a more prestigious posting than the glamorous ''Odyssey'' under a man like Keogh.

* TheWorfEffect: The ''Galaxy''-class starship U.S.S. ''Odyssey'' shows up to help rescue Sisko and company from the Dominion, then gets utterly curbstomped and destroyed by the Jem'Hadar. WordOfGod says this choice was deliberate, they chose an identical ship to the famous U.S.S. ''Enterprise''-D to show just how badly the Federation's finest are outmatched by their new enemies.

* DidntThinkThisThrough: Upon beaming up to the runabout, Jake and Nog decide to disengage the autopilot so the computer can fly them back to Deep Space 9. Unable to deactivate it by voice command, the two end up disassembling half the computer system to turn it off. Once the autopilot is finally disabled, Jake tells to computer to set a course back to the station... only to find out the computer ''needs'' the autopilot (which is now in pieces) to fly anywhere.

Has nothing to do with familiarity with in-universe fiction.

* GenreSavvy:
** Captain Keogh and the [=DS9=] staff have the ''Odyssey'' disembark all nonessential personnel at the station before entering the wormhole to face a highly dangerous mission in the Gamma Quadrant. Given the ensuing CurbStompBattle, it was a very good decision.
** After engaging the Jem'Hadar ships and finding out that their weapons pass through Starfleet shielding, Captain Keogh doesn't even wait for the [=DS9=] officers' suggestion to start rotating shield harmonics to find something that might work -- and when that doesn't end up helping, he has the shields shut down with the power [[GlassCannon redirected to the weapons]]. (That said, if the shields had remained up, the ship might not have been vulnerable to RammingAlwaysWorks.)

* OneRiotOneRanger: Deconstructed. The ''Odyssey'' being a Galaxy-class ship like the ''Enterprise'', it's expected that she'll be able to rescue Sisko and Quark with no trouble and the Jem'Hadar will simply be a MonsterOfTheWeek. Tellingly, from this point forward Starfleet begins to operate in fleet-sized groups whenever dealing with the Dominion.

-->'''[[http://markwatches.net Mark Oshiro:]]''' Remember when the Cardassians were the major threat to peace in this world? Remember when they were the main antagonist? DO YOU REMEMBER THIS TIME? Because in just one episode, Deep Space Nine has upended everything, giving us a new villain that’s not even one person, nor is it one species, NOR DO THEY SEEM TO HAVE A SINGLE DISCERNIBLE WEAKNESS, EITHER. After teasing us with mentions of the Dominion for two seasons, the writers barge into our room, they punch us right in the heart, and then they dart away, laughing the whole time. The Dominion are here, and they are not gonna fuck around.

** Eris escapes by having herself beamed out. The Dominion is otherwise never seen using cloaking technology, so how she did so is a mystery. WordOfGod is that she was supposed to return but the actress wasn't available, so it isn't just a suicide. In addition, later episodes would show that the Dominion's transporter technology is far more advanced with a range extending to several lightyears.

This actually works on the humans, but then Quark tries to reverse engineer the "technology" for a quick profit...
