* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: When Anya tries to cheat on Eden Academy exams by reading the minds of the children sitting next to her, she finds out they don't know the answers or are just trying to guess them. She passes the exam anyway because of Twilight's preparations.

In a world set within the backdrop of a Cold War period between the two neighboring countries of Westalis and Ostania, intelligence rules everything and spies are the unsung heroes fighting the good fight from the shadows to prevent this war from becoming hot. For Westalis, no spy is greater than the legendary Twilight, a MasterOfDisguise and espionage who has never failed his missions.

After intercepting a deal that could have ended with a prominent Westalis minister losing his job, Twilight is contacted by his employers in WISE who have presented him with what may be his most challenging mission yet: Donavan Desmond, a far-right political party member in the Ostania government, is believed to be stirring up trouble and may be planning to upset the fragile peace between these two countries. Twilight must go undercover to find out Desmond's plans, but the man is a social recluse who only appears at social functions within the prestigious Eden Academy that his son attends. Therefore, in order to meet his target, Twilight must do the most challenging thing possible for a socially stunted loner such as him; get married and have a child! And he has to do this in one week because the entrance exams are fast approaching.

While initially perturbed, Twilight ultimately decides to go through with the charade for the sake of world peace. Adopting the alias of psychiatrist Loid Forger, Loid purchases a house and goes to the shadiest-looking orphanage he can find in order to adopt a child with no questions asked. Luck appears on his side when he finds a strange but seemingly intelligent young girl named Anya that he can mold into the ideal daughter for the mission. However, it soon turns out that Anya has a secret of her own; she is in fact an esper who was experimented on by government scientists who intended to use her to aid their efforts in the Cold War before she ran away.

With her own secret, and a desire to not return to the orphanage, Anya takes up the role of Loid's new daughter. However, tensions rise between the two as Loid realizes that Anya isn't quite the child prodigy he had intended to adopt and he finds the concept of being a father for more challenging than he had anticipated. After leaving to meet with a contact, Anya looks around her new father's house and finds his secret spy gear. She inadvertently sends out a message whilst playing with the spy gear, allowing Twilight's enemies to pinpoint his location.

When Loid returns home, he finds two intruders lying in wait. After easily dispatching them, he realizes that the house has been ransacked and wonders if he somehow leaked his information to his enemies. Realizing that Anya has been kidnapped by this group, Twilight considers abandoning the girl and starting the mission fresh when one of the thugs attacks him from behind.

In a warehouse, Anya is being held hostage by the government official that Twilight had foiled in his last mission. She is scared to be in the presence of a true bad guy and desperately wants someone to save her. Suddenly, the thug that attacked Twilight appears claiming to have taken down the spy and placed him in the bag. As the politician opens the bag, he is shocked to see the face of the man he was just talking to and realizes he's been had again. Twilight has come to take his daughter back!

In the confusion, Twilight takes Anya out of the warehouse, internally reprimanding himself for putting his mission in jeopardy like this. Anya, thanks to her telepathy, realizes that her savior is Twilight and embraces her papa, though her slurred words mean Twilight isn't aware that she knows his identity. Her crying inadvertently makes him reminisce and realize his original reason for becoming a spy: to prevent any other child from experiencing what he suffered through as a war orphan. Taking Anya outside, Twilight gives her a note that he says to give to the police saying they will look after her. Internally however, Loid thinks that it will send her to a better orphanage then the one he found her in, believing that it was wrong of him to put a child in danger like that. Naturally, Anya knows what Loid intents to do and despite everything doesn't want to leave. Sending Anya along Twilight returns to the warehouse to tie up some loose ends.

The thugs enter the warehouse intending to hunt Twilight down but inadvertently set off some traps he had left behind. Twilight proceeds to take down each thug one by one until only the politician remains. He then calmly tells the man various personal details about his daughter and mentions that, while he wouldn't kill her, she does have a criminal record of her own that can be used against her. He then warns the man to never try and find out his identity again.


Later, a dejected Loid makes his way home believing that Anya is gone now, only to be shocked to see the young girl waiting outside the warehouse. When asked what she is doing there, Anya says that she was playing tag with some man and decided to go home. She then runs up and hugs Loid's leg asking not to be sent away. Remembering that Anya had been constantly send back to orphanages in short order, Loid realizes that the girl needs him just as much as he needs her for the mission. He promises to look after her though internally notes that it will just be until the missions done.

A few days later, Loid and Anya receive the news that she has passed the entrance exams and is eligible to enter Eden Academy. However, before she can enroll directly Anya and her family must undergo an interview to determine their merit and both parents must be there, no exceptions. Looks like Loid will have to find himself a wife after all!
