* IAteWhat: One customer is noticeably grossed-out when she tries Plankton's chum, but becomes even more disgusted when Plankton lists the ingredients: jellyfish squeezings, whale blubber, seahorse snout, and a sprinkle of anchor rust. "Oh barnacles, that's ''foul!''"

** The maestro approved the score that Squidward handed to him, hinting that it was going to be loved by the audience, which it was.

** Since the maestro approved Squidward's symphony before the performance, it only makes sense that the audience was going to as well.

* {{Padding}}: There's a part midway through where Plankton convinces a woman to buy a chumstick, then locks down the colosseum until everyone does, which they do. The scene is a minute long, comes out of nowhere, has no relevance to the main conflict, and is never mentioned again.

* Foreshadowing:

* BigDamnHeroes: When he sees Patrick being chased by the lionfish, Spongebob jumps into a chariot and rushes to his aid.

* DidntThinkThisThrough: Plankton, having built an arena big enough to fit ''the entire city'', still decided to go with ''someone he knew was the friend'' of his most frequent foiler. If he had picked ''literally anyone else'', Spongebob wouldn't have stopped him.

** Mr. Krabs is noticeably upset that his mother wants to see Spongebob and Patrick mauled by the lionfish.
** Likewise, while Spongebob is willing to watch ''someone else'' get mauled in the match, he puts his foot down the ''moment'' he realized it was going to be ''his best friend''. Squidward, ironically, [[HypocriticalHumor has the exact opposite reaction]], questioning beforehand why people would be entertained... and ''actively rooting for the lion to slaughter him'' after he realizes it's Patrick.

* ContrivedCoincidence: Out of an ''entire city of people'' he could've chosen, Plankton chose ''one of the only people'' that could've caused his plan to fail. If he had literally chosen '''anyone else''' to fight the sealion, his plan would've had a shot at succeeding.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Plankton, having built an arena big enough to fit ''the entire city'', still decided to go with ''someone he knew was the friend'' of his most frequent foiler. If he had picked ''literally anyone else'', Spongebob wouldn't have stopped him. Hell, if his goal there was to see the look on his face, why wouldn't he just pick '''him'''?

Yes, he likely did it [[ForTheEvulz just because he wanted to enjoy the look on their face]], but if he hadn't picked Patrick, Spongebob would've just watched the show, the crowd wouldn't have left, and he could've kept the upper hand.
