Incredibly Lame Pun is a redirect and not a trope by itself. Moments where someone acknowledges how bad the pun is counts as Lame Pun Reaction.

Thomas holds a [[{{Franchise/Pokemon}} pokeball]] up to the screen and exclaims that 2016 has evolved into 2017...or devolved. He says that no one knows yet and that hopefully we're all going to find out together. Roll title screen.

As 2016 fades into the past, Thomas reminisces on all the things he accomplished during the past year; he got to [[Creator/GregCipes hang]] [[Creator/KharyPayton out]] [[Creator/TaraStrong with]] [[Creator/ScottMenville the]] WesternAnimation/TeenTitans, he got really obsessed with {{Theatre/Hamilton}}, he got to hang out with [[WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse the Crystal Gems]], he got to go to the Tony Awards, he got to travel to new countries, he performed at {{VidCon}}, he went to Playlist and had a huge birthday surprise thrown for him onstage, he won an award, he collaberated with so many of his Website/YouTube heroes, and he went on tour with his first official musical!

And with all of this in mind, there's only one question...what comes next?

Logic appears to have an idea, as he suddenly interrupts the vlog to suggest that Thomas make some New Years' resolutions. Thomas tells Logic that he was thinking about goals to set this year for his videos, but Logic tells him that setting up a good lifestyle for himself is an important step to making good videos, and asks Thomas what steps he can take to achieve a good lifestyle. Thomas expresses visible uncertainty, which causes Morality to appear, much to Logic's chagrin. Morality [[Recap/SandersSidesS1E2WayTooAdult once again]] suggests learning to cook and taking other steps towards proper [[RunningGag adultery]]. Logic disagrees, instead recommending that Thomas work on expanding his mind, telling him that good content will only come to his viewers if he educates himself. Morality fires back with the argument that he can't do that if he still needs to work on eating right and taking care of himself more. This back and forth continues for a bit until Creativity appears, declaring that the thing Thomas needs to work towards this year is everything he's ever dreamed of doing; travelling, acting and creating more than he's ever done before. Logic and Morality ask how Thomas is supposed to do any of those things without knowledge or a healthy way of living. The Sides start fighting amongst themselves while Thomas is left overwhelmed and attempts to make the Sides calm down and be peaceful.

Anxiety makes an entrance amongst the chaotic rambling, having been summoned through the rest of the Sides being in utter turmoil. Anxiety tells everyone that [[FamilyUnfriendlyAesop there's no point to picking out any goals for the new year, telling yourself what you'll start doing or stop doing, because in a month -- probably less -- it's all going to be for nothing. You'll just stop trying and go right back to before. It's all meaningless.]]

The Sides [[JerkassHasAPoint relucantly agree]], conceding that Thomas ''has'' been pretty bad about sticking to goals in the past. Thomas says that this year could be different, and starts to list possible New Years' resolutions, but the Sides shoot down every single one. Anxiety tells him to give up and realise that New Years' resolutions are only empty promises to yourself. Thomas disagrees, saying that maybe they don't have to be big things like promising to drastically alter your diet or sleeping habits; they can be small and reasonable. With this new mindset, he suggests a list of smaller, but still positive resolutions, such as telling his loved ones that he loves them more often or taking more time to treat himself. Creativity, Logic and Morality agree with these resolutions, but Anxiety tells Thomas that he isn't going to stick to these resolutions. Thomas says Anxiety may be right, but they'll both find out in time if he does or not.

Anxiety admits defeat once again and leaves, frustrated. Thomas says that the final message to take away from the video is that [[AnAesop the best course of action when it comes to New Years' Resolutions (or goals in general) is to start with small and reasonable tasks and work up from there.]]

Just before Thomas thanks the Sides for helping out, Logic interrupts and proceeds to kick Morality and Creativity out of the video. Thomas then thanks Logic, slightly bewildered as Logic accepts the thanks and sinks out claiming that [[BlatantLies he was the only one in the video who helped.]]

With Thomas being the only one remaining in the room, he tells the audience he hopes they find some nice, achievable goals for the new year. He performs his SigningOffCatchPhrase, but is interrupted by Morality popping back up to share one last dad joke. ([[IncrediblyLamePun "My New Years' resolution is 1080p!"]]) Logic comes back in to yell at Morality right before the end card.

Right before TheStinger, Thomas thanks his friend [[https://soundcloud.com/Christian-Shaw-708673926 Chris]] for helping to make the song in the video and urges the viewers to take a look at his social media, and he thanks the audience themselves for making 2016 an amazing year.

TheStinger itself features Creativity asking Anxiety what his New Years' resolution would be, if he had to have one. Anxiety says it would probably be to find darker eyeshadow to better match his soul. Creativity is mildly taken aback and calls Anxiety "an emo nightmare," but Anxiety takes it as a compliment, thanking him.

to:

It's New Year's Day. After Thomas holds has reminisced about all the things he acomplished in 2016, Logic appears to remind him that it's time to make New Year's resolutions for 2017. While Logic, Dad and Princey start arguing about what is more important for Thomas to start doing, Anxiety shows up and remarks that it's useless to make New Year's resolutions, as he's gonna abandon them in a [[{{Franchise/Pokemon}} pokeball]] month or probably less. Thomas tries to convince himself, and the Sides, that this year is going to be different, and he's gonna do it in song.
