* ArtisticLicenseLaw: Despite Johnny Blaze never being prosecuted for stabbing his son to death, Lt. Cavette still would (or should) not be allowed to investigate Blaze's murder officially.

Jessica takes a detour through New Orleans to check up on her cousin Cal for another relative after he drops out of contact. The flashy last night of Mardi Gras quickly becomes far more exciting than necessary when Jessica's cousin ends up accused of murdering a local ruffian. !!This episode includes examples of the following tropes:
* IllKillYou: In the opening, Cal threatens to kill Johnny Blaze after the latter cheats him at cards.
* INeverSaidItWasPoison: Jessica realizes Gaston had to be the person in the Cyrano costume because after the police found Blaze's body, he advised her to tell her cousin to leave town. However, Jessica never said that Cal was her cousin except when trying to catch the attention of the man in the Cyrano costume, who she thought was Cal.
* MasqueradingAsTheUnseen: A variation; the tradition of wearing costumes at Mardi Gras allows the killer to frame Cal by wearing a Cyrano de Bergerac costume and imitating his distinctive stutter.
* SlippingAMickey: Cal claims he doesn't remember anything between the last drink Gaston gave him and Jessica waking him up. This leads Jessica to conclude Gaston drugged the drink.
* YouKilledMyFather: Lt. Cavette has been looking for a way to prosecute Johnny Blaze ever since Blaze allegedly stabbed his son Eric to death in an alley after Eric confronted him about cheating at cards.
