* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: As seen during Russell's XRaySparks, it is shown that he still has functional feet hidden by the peg legs. [[OffModel Though this might be more of the animators forgetting that he was supposed to lack skeletal structure on the legs.]]

* OffModel:
** Russell loses his five o' clock shadow after being dragged through the corals. Notable in that this "beardless" look becomes his default appearance in later episodes.
** When Russell is relieved for a brief time after smacking into the sea mine, the animators decided to give him a half-closed eye expression, even though his eyelid is already pulled by Lumpy's fishing line. This results in making him appear to have two eyelids on one eye. Not to mention, his pupil is placed too high or not covered up partially, causing it to overlap the eyelid part.
** Lumpy suddenly gains the same PieEyed pupils as the rest of the cast when he notices Russell's eye on his fishing line.

Russell is seen diving to feast on a clam. Before he can even enjoy it, an anchor is suddenly dropped onto him. It turns out that Lumpy is fishing at the area. After recovering from dizziness, Russell sees a fishing hook right in front of his face. The hook then catches his eyelid and pulls him to the right. Lumpy sees this as an incoming catch, so he begins to reel in. Russell gets dragged through the water. On the way, he gets zapped by an electric eel, shredded by corals, and then smacked onto a sea mine, which does not explode. Russell thinks he is now safe until Lumpy pulls back anyway, setting the mine off. When he finally reels in his catch, he is surprised to discover that he only managed to catch an eyelid with an eyeball on it. Said eyeball ends up falling off.

"Off the Hook" is the twenty third episode of the first (internet) season of ''WebAnimation/HappyTreeFriends''.
