* ThePasswordIsAlwaysSwordfish: Subverted. Bruce tries for a month to figure out the passcode to his father's secret room, but ultimately resorts to blowing it open. It's only afterwards that he finds out the code was his name.

* VillainTeamUp: Tabitha Galavan breaks out several inmates from Arkham at her brother’s behest to have them form a villain gang.

* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Even though he’s only recently arrived to Gotham, Theo Galavan is already well regarded enough to stand in for the Mayor in public events. But nobody knows he is secretly a villain.
* WhatTheHellHero: When Jim tells Bruce that he can’t keep his promise to solve his parents’ murder because he’s not willing to compromise his morals to get his job back, Bruce is...less than understanding.

* WoundedGazelleGambit: Barbara tries to pull this on Gordon, claiming that Leslie is the crazy one and attacked her. Jim doesn’t buy it.

* YouOweMe: When Penguin asks why he should get Gordon reinstated, Jim points out that he saved his bacon last episode. Penguin however won't do something for nothing.

* IGotBigger: David Mazouz has gained height, which is very noticeable after a several month break. In the pilot, he was very much shorter than Ben [=McKenzie=] and easily seen as a vulnerable kid. When Bruce Wayne shakes hands with (and directly challenges) Jim Gordon in this episode not only is he more confrontational, he's approaching physical equality.
